 September 2004
We spent a week here and to be honest were not that impressed, we turned up with two outfits and after waiting (as instructed) outside reception for nearly 1/2 an hour, we had to go looking for someone to find out where to pitch then when the person did book us in he wasn't exactly friendly, just took the money and pointed to our our reserved pitches.

The site itself is tiered and the pitches are level, although as all the facilities like the toilets & showers are at the bottom it can be quite awkward whilst emtying your chemical toilet or going down for a shower as the tiering of the pitches are quite steep and the steps are too. The actual toilet block was a disgrace, there was broken glass by the doorway (which we did mention at the beginning but it was still there when we left) the showers were filthy and ran cold on most days, pretty much the same with the toilets.

When we booked up to this site we asked if there was a dog exercise area to which we were told yes, but this turned out to be a very short walk through the wooded area that took all of 5 mins to walk through and went nowhere.

The shop opening times were varied to say the least, we managed to catch it open twice all week, they didn't have any specific opening times, although they did tell us it would be open for a couple of hours in the mornings, alas not quite true! therefor we went out to get shopping etc. The plus points of this site are the views, which are great, a real shame that the attitude and general appearance of this site is so bad as it could be a lovely site as it has a pool and club house (not open whist we were there)

Found this site to be quite good, we tried to get in at big meddow but they were full, so this was an unplanned stop, the staff were friendly enough, shop was well stocked and open at good times (8-8). It is quite a hike to the toilet block and yes it can get busy as there are only 5 showers for the whole site!!
The views are very nice and the pub prices very reasonable. It was windy, blowing up off the channel and we had to re-peg the guy ropes a few times.
On the whole not a bad site but quite expensive for the lack of amenities £14pn. It is a good base to see this lovely part of North Devon.

We enjoyed this campsite. We were very nearly put off by some of the previous comments, glad we went though as we thought Napps was a great 'Family' site.
Enjoyed the lovely warm pool, the adventure playground and free tennis etc the site offers. The entertainment in the evening was nice and a good meeting place to make new friends and for children to get together. Good because no noise to wake children after around 10 p.m., club shut at 12 but we never heard any drunks or stupid unsupervised children running around.

The shop was well stocked and we found the owners very approachable, had a dry sense of humour which I suppose some people might not appreciate!

We were advised that the shower blocks will be modernised this year and speaking to other return customers it would seem that the owners update some part of the park every year. We were very satisfied with the site, people, locations etc.etc.

We arrived at the site after a 10-hour journey due to traffic problems to find that the pitch we had booked was a good walk down lots of small hills caused by the terracing effect. The bottom 3 or 4 hills had steps, but the rest were just grass banks, this made things very slippery in the morning as the evening dew had settled. I saw countless people slipping and hurting themselves down these banks. The showers and the chemical waste disposal unit were all at the bottom of the hill, tricky with a porta potti full of you know what.
Having said that the weather was fantastic which always helps and we saw some spectacular sun sets from our pitch. It is accurate to say I dont think we will return, although we may give one of the other sites close by a try as the area is very nice.

Nice site. Fantastic views, staff friendly enough, shop well stocked.
Facilities adequate. Pitches good size.
Nice pool for the kids to play in.
Very good pub that served excellent food just a short walk from the site. Bar on site that seemed reasonably priced.

Oh yes, forgot to say, although the food stopped at 8 at Napps, there are a couple of great pubs local to the site, which are very good value for money. The Old Sawmill is at the bottom of the drive up to Napps, friendly staff, reasonable drinks prices, or there's Ye Old Globe, which is situated in the village of Berrynarbor, about a 20 min walk on a nice evening. (Mostly uphill there)
A regular bus route into Combe Martin is convenient if you want a few beers, many pubs along the way, but you'll have to get a cab or walk back in the evening, as the last bus from the far end of Combe Martin goes at aroung 7:15 apart from a Friday, there are a couple more.

Lovely views, well cos the weather was soooo bad this week, it was a bit hit & miss where you could see them!
Spacious site, although they really must get a loo block on the tent field, as it's so far to walk especially in the rain. Nice pool. Shame no food after 8 in the evening.

Staff, well, the lady in the shop was always pleasant, gave time out for a chat, the cleaning lady was also nice. Others seemed to be rather miserable, maybe it was the weather??
The few times I saw new people booking in was quite hectic, the poor lady had to deal with that & serve in the shop, whilst the owners were nowhere to be seen, & when they were, they were either driving around up to the camping field, (alright for them, we were not allowed to drive down to the loos, although most did), or sitting in the bar of an evening trying to crack a smile.

If or when we ever go back to the area, I don't think we'll be going back there, unless we're nearer the loos, (to be able to choose where we're going to pitch would be quite nice), they get someone to open the takaway later, we don't pitch where, when it's raining, a river appears slap bang in the middle of our tent, forcing us to leave a day early, or unless the owners make us feel more welcome.

Just got back having spent 6 days at Napps. Most of reviews seem pretty accurate regarding staff, as i heard one or two comments regarding their attitude. We didn't experience this ourselves at Napps (they weren't overly friendly but neither we alot of people in the places we visited. Some friends of ours who live in the area say that prices go up considerably during the tourist season so i guess you may be looked at as a commodity rather than a person. Regarding toilets, the cleanliness depended on the time of day, but the facility is too small for the peak season so it gets heavy usage. If you are on the upper terraces it is a trek to use them. My 10 year old struggled filling the aquaroll and pulling it up the slopes. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best so we came back a day early. Make sure you bring windbreaks and awning storm straps as it can get a bit windy on the site. However the views are some of the best and the local beach although a bit of a climb (227 steps) it is worth it. We were going to have a beach barbeque, but the weather didn't improve. If you're into surfing etc Woolacoobe isn't far and it is a good location.

Been twice now in 3 weeks. My wife & i have 2 children, and all of us fully enjoyed ourselves.

Site is reasonably clean, has plenty to offer, and great for kids. Large play area, tennis court, small swimming pool with excellent area for very young children, cafe & shop (not open very often - only a few hours per day), bar with entertainment in high season.

Shame about service - staff do not seem too happy to see you - only want your money.

Very steep climb to tent field - very top of site - but some fantastic views over the bay.

Bit far for us to travel to, so unlikely to visit again. 7/10

Not recommended.

We found staff at best 'luke-warm'. The over-riding impression left with us was that the operators wanted your money & cared little for much else.

The facilities were limited, inoperative or dirty.

The toilet block (only one for 250 pitches) seemed always busy and smelled bad.

Little things that didnt work included hand driers, toilet cubicles, tumble driers, lighting (washing-up in the dark should be listed as an attraction -not!). These were duly reported to the indifferent and cold staff with no apparent action taken.

The site itself is in a lovely location although it is spread up a hill on a series of terraces. Our pitch was about 500 metres from the facilities block across a steep climb and several terraces. All tent were furthest from facilities

The nearby beach is attractive although it is accesable only via a long steep climb (unsuitable for the very young/old/pushchairs etc). We were put off the beach by considerable rubbish that had built up. One local expressed his concerns about falling standards.

With all the above in mind, the kids enjoyed the pool and the play area and the site was well positioned for trips out.

We wont be going back!!
