June 2002 Napps is situated in a lovely spot overlooking Watermouth Cove in North Devon. It's a quiet area and seems to be dominated by the four or so camp sites that are also close by. Of these sites, Napps is priced somewhere in the middle but has spectacular views of the coastline and some wonderful sunsets.
On a practical level, the facilities are not the best we have ever encountered and we were fairly disappointed with them.
I am told there were four showers in the Gents, and toilets were never particularly clean. As far as the Ladies were concerned there were plenty of toilets but only five showers (four in working order on a bank holidays weekend). You can do the maths, 250 pitches divided between 4 showers = queues. I like attention to detail with regard to facilities on site and this site just didn't attend to those details. Ladies showers had no curtained areas beyond the cubicle doors and only one hook per shower. It was a guessing game every morning among my fellow female campers to decide how to keep clothes dry (plenty of time to chat what with all those queues and all). Toilets looked shabby with broken tiles and water marks.
There is an indoor washing up facility with around 7 sinks and a plentiful supply of very hot water. There is also a separate laundry room but it appeared not to have any sinks in there, just machines and tumble driers.
There was nowhere to freeze your own ice packs but they did run a service hiring out their own at £1 each and then 20p for each freeze after that. Because of this, there was always a plentiful supply of frozen packs which meant our fridge was cold all week long.
The camping field is at the top of the site, a good distance from the amenity block and it was quite windy up there. There were water points in the field and the odd hook up pitch, but no other facilities.
For children there is a swimming pool, play area and tennis courts. They have a take away food area and basic shop. For adults there is a bar area which we didn't use but further down the hill towards Watermouth there is a wonderful pub with really good value food that I heartily recommend!
All in all, it's a great location but I think they could very much do to look at their facilities.
