Love this site. We have been using this site for the last three years. The price never seems to change and is exceptionally reasonable. The dog walk is brilliant, it is fenced off so your dog can run free off it's lead.
The toilets and showers are always spotlessly clean. The only extra that would be nice is a shower curtain in the unisex showers. Although there is enough room to move it's almost impossible to keep your clothes far enough away from the spray of the shower to stop them getting wet.
The Bell Public House across the road is very good and provides excellent food. The only drawback though is that you cannot eat in the bar only the restaurant. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant only the bar. This makes eating and taking the dog with you at the same time impossible.
The Brasenose Arms in Cropredy is dog friendly even when serving food. There is now a footpath all the way from Great Bourton to Cropredy.
If you don't mind walking it is a lovely walk along the canal (about three miles) into Banbury. It's a good day out in nice weather.
Great site, great facilities, ideal area for walking and the nearby pubs aren't bad either.

Reception: Very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Newspapers are not available, nearest shop is 1 mile away in Cropredy.
Pitch: £12. 00 per night for medium sized hard-standing pitch with TV hook up and water. Site felt a little cramped. There was a rally on in the front field.
Facilities: Only 3 showers, no curtains or anywhere to put your soap. Only two toilets for the men and I think two for the ladies. Showers are very clean, but basic compared to Caravan Club facilities. There was little road noise, but I think those in the rally who were nearer to the main road may have suffered.
Dog walk: We walked the dog on the path through the village of Great Bourton which is quite picturesque. Lovely old church and houses.
Pubs: Nearest pub is The Bell, 5 minutes walk. Old style pub with a warm welcome, 3 real ales, all Hook Norton. Staff are very friendly, food is available. Only opens 12. 00 – 3. 00 & 6. 00pm onwards.
Local Transport: There is a bus stop outside and opposite the pub, but this service may stop running at the end of November 2011, one to watch out for. Cannot understand why, we caught the bus into Banbury and it was full. Banbury now has a new shopping centre, it will take you a day to go round it and the old town. It has changed a lot since we last went, and for the better.
Play Area: There is no play area.
All in all a nice site, open all year. Personally I would prefer more showers and some with curtains but and we have been spoilt by The Caravan Club so may be a little biased. This is a very popular site and it is clear to see why, everyone we spoke to had visited more than once and kept returning.

I love this site. It is a little small on pitch sizes some are even fully serviced pitches but it's a beautiful area. Site warden lovely. Site owner very friendly.
The showers and toilets are always spotless there's 3 maybe 4 unisex showers, 3 ladies toilets one having its own basin. Even when there's a rally on which is most weekends there is never a queue for the showers and I've been to this site quiet a few times now. There's a bucket and mop you have to mop out after your shower like the cc sites I like this. Pump hand soap nice touch in toilets.
Laundry area and washing up area. Toilet emptying point ok. Don't let the rally's put you off because there no problem. Tescos 2 miles away, morrisons about 3 miles away. If you turn left out of site, left at top onto main road keep going to the first island you come to turn right own there's Chinese, chip shop, newsagents, subway?, indian?.
As for the play area there is one it's hidden away with huge bushes and trees around it. There's a gap in the trees where you go in and out. So I suppose it could have easily Have not been seen unless its gone.
There's a climbing frame, swings slides and a big sand pit and other stuff. There's also 2 picnic benches for parents to supervise there children. The dog walk is small but it's enclosed so good for taking a ball. I like this site and area I always go back. It's not the same as cc standards but it's not far behind and it's a lot cheaper than cc sites.
It's £12 standard pitch inc elec and 2 adults per night, £14 fully serviced pitch inc 2 adults and elec, £1. 00 porch awning per night, £1. 50 full awning per night, £1. 00 kids 5-11 per night, £1. 50 for 12 and over inc adults per night. These prices have stayed the same for the last 3 years. Happy caravanning.

Just returned from four day bank holiday break at this site. We thought it was brilliant. The owner of the site greeted us with a cheery smile and guided us to our pitch. The facilities and the site were in pristine condition and spotlessly clean with plenty of hot water at all times. There was also dishwashing and laundry facilities and a well stocked information area. Our two year old really enjoyed the well kept play area.
There is a pub just down the road and also a couple in cropredy 2 miles away which were all good and also the local shop.
All in all, a wonderful site in a great setting and very reasonable prices considering it was bank holiday.
Highly recommended.

Just returned from a long weekend at Barnstones. The site is lovely, with a very welcoming atmosphere. Everywhere is spotlessly clean and well-maintained. The shower/toilet blocks are great with plenty of hot water. There is also a laundry room and washing up facilities. Our 6 year old loved the park area and field and spent many hours with new found friends. There is a little bit of traffic noise as it is next to a busy main road and the M40 is a mile or so down the road, but we soon got used to it and hardly noticed it - it certainly didn't keep us awake at night.
The village of Great Bourton and the next village of Croperdy are beautiful and well worth a look around. It is a nice 15 min walk to Croperdy where the nearest shop is situated. We had a lovely meal and a warm welcome at The Bell in Gt. Bourton. We caught the bus from Gt Bourton into Banbury which is about a 10 minute journey away. We thought Banbury was a great town, with plenty of old historical buildings, the canalside where you can see barges navigate the locks and lovely shopping! There is also a leisure centre and 10 pin bowling.
All in all we felt the site and the surrounding area made a perfect break. We will certainly return again soon.

What a fantastic little site. We choose this site as it was near to home and we wanted to try out our new caravan. The toilet and shower blocks looked new (3 unisex, fully enclosed showers, 4 ladies toilets and 4 sinks, 2 gents toilets and 2 urinals and 4 sinks) and were immaculately clean all the time. Again a very clean fully enclosed dish washing area and laundry room.
The owner was so helpful, even offering to help us site our new caravan (was the first time we had used it having previously been tenters), in the pouring rain. He frequently walked the site checking everyone was ok, but wasn't intrusive.
There is a small fully enclosed dog exercise area.
The children's play area was well kept and thoroughly enjoyed by our eight year old. Not much there for older children through.
It's a short walk to the nearest pub. Be warned though there is not much of a path and cars do seem to go very fast down the lane! Make sure you take a torch at night.
The only downside is the road noise that did keep me awake the first night but I am a very light sleeper, certainly my daughter and husband weren't particularly bothered by it.
Would I visit again - definitely. Would I recommend it to others - absolutely.

Just returned from a very good long weekend at Barnstones. Very friendly site with friendly owners and with good facilities. The toilet, showers, laundry and wash-up were well maintained and of a high standard.
Dog walk area is very good, it is enclosed so you can let them run freely (our Great Dane loved it). Enclosed kids-toys area as well.
Not a shop locally that we knew of but you pass a Tesco coming in off the M40, so not to far to drive.
Good site and good value too. £14 /night 2 adults with EHU

We spent 2 nights here during the late bank holiday weekend. Our initial impression was that it felt crowded especially as there was a rally on too. However, we were really surprised to find it very quiet and friendly. The owner was extremely pleasant and helpful and it was a very reasonable price per night. The facilities are good and very clean. The village pub served good food and there are plently of walks to the canal and to nearby Cropredy village where there are two more pubs and a shop. We will definitely come again. (There is some road noise as the site is located just off the main road and is also fairly close to the M40). Not enough to keep you awake!

Barnstones is a pleasant and quiet site, just tucked off the main road north of Banbury towards Southam.
A fairly 'compact' site (certainly on the area we used), the site offers either grassed or hardstanding pitches, the latter being mainly full-service. Toilet and shower block was very clean and included the laundry too, with elsan point just to the side.
The full service pitches were adequate, but would have been quite compact with a full awning up; for the bank holiday break, it was very good plus reasonably priced too (we were allocated fully serviced pitch, but only charged a standard rate as site only had a serviced pitch available at booking).
No shops in the immediate area, but only a short walk into the village with an excellent little pub just 5 mins down the road and a large supermarket on the edge of Banbury too, about 5 mins drive.
All in all, a top site for the short break or mid-journey stop, being only about 7-8 mins from the M40.

What a lovely friendly site. My husband and myself arrived on New Years Eve and a friendly welcome we got and 'do not pay us yet pay before you leave' how trusting. The site is very clean. 3 showers no charge, men and ladies toilets both warm and clean, there is a laundry room and wash-up room. It is near a little village with a very friendly local pub they even gave out nibbles on New Years Eve. You are only a short drive away from Banbury itself. Also a short drive away from Stratford upon Avon. All in all a excellent little site. And all this for just £12.00 per night with electric
