Me and my girlfriend spent a week at Silver Sands and we both agree it is the best caravan site we have been to. We were welcomed by Kel the owner who along with Nick (owner)couldn't do enough to help us. They were so welcoming and helpful.
The caravan was well looked after and was very clean and fresh when we arrived. There were clean sheets dish cloths coffee and washing up liquid already there.
The site itself was beautiful with an abundance of wildlife and plants. We had 2 resident swallows who sat outside our caravan every day.
The site was also very dog friendly. The dogs had to be kept on leads in the main site but a separate dog walking field was available. All these extra little touches just made our stay so much better.
Around the campsite there was a beautiful walk to the beach (10 mins) where there were 2 beaches one for families and one for dogs (all year round) which is rare for this time of year.
On our last night we decided to camp which was equally as enjoyable as the pitches are secluded and peaceful with a very very clean shower block wash station and toilet.
The views were amazing lush green fields and sea. All in all a beautiful beautiful peaceful and friendly site. Very highly recommended and great value for money.
If anyone can find fault with this site I would be amazed it is exactly what a caravan/camping holiday in Cornwall is all about.

The caravan was very old, thread bare carpets as well as being dirty and moldy. There were much better caravans on site but they would not allow us to book them because of the dogs!
The hot water tap stopped working on our 1st day (Sunday) and it took until Thursday for someone to come in and repair it! It broke again the same evening so we made do with boiling kettles to do the dishes for the rest of the holiday!
Based on our antiquated caravan alone and what they charged for it I would not go back! After being charged the extra for my dogs they came back with fleas which can only have come from the caravan!
However the site itself was brilliant and very peaceful and well kept and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get away from things. The beach is about a 10 minute walk down a wooded valley but the site advertise shops, takeaway and a pub as 'nearby' but this is open to interpretation as nearby means within driving distance. The mile or so walk to these facilities was not really possible after dark given the terrain to reach them
The staff were ok, not overly friendly but not overly offish either though I did take great exception to being told off by a child within 5 minutes of getting there after an 8 hr drive! The dogs were loose outside our caravan, we were unpacking and we were told to get them on a lead despite them going no further than 10 ft from us after being cooped up in the car for so long
All in all based on my own experience, my accommodation, the excessive charging for pets and the somewhat misleading description of local faculties I would not stay there again but can see the attraction of this site to some people

We visited this site for the tenth time in our tent and were welcomed by the new owner Kel.
All I can say is that the new owners have not only maintained the very high standards that this site had but have improved an already fantastic site.
Pitches are well kept toilets and wash blocks are spotless staff are friendly and approachable. We were so happy with our june visit that we wanted to book for the following august but all pitches were booked.
To say we were gutted was an understatement but Kel offered us a dog friendly static for the week. Although a older model it was clean tidy and comfortable (and our dog didn't come home with fleas).
The site is dog friendly but it is the dog owners that make it friendly keep them on a lead and everyones happy.

Well I wanted to take 5 minutes to let people know what a fantastic experience I had at Silver Sands Holiday Park.
First the site is beautifully located just a walk from the beach through a lovely wooded valley. Brilliant for dog walkers like myself or for families and couples alike.
The site is beautifully presented with excellent landscaping and many hedges and trees providing complete privacy.
The Static caravan was comfortable, very clean and very cosy. We loved it, it was so quiet on site that most mornings we languished in our comfortable bed.
The owner Frankie gave us a wonderful reception on arrival and was helpful in every way possible. The site has a fully equipped toilet block with lovely warm showers and everything is well cleaned and smells fresh. We used the on site laundry facilities and family bathroom and were impressed with the cleanliness of both.
Walking around the site is a treat, so beautiful when the sun shines. There is a whole spare field for the kid's to play or for owners to exercise their dogs around the perimeter path.
We enjoyed it so much we went back in October. This will now be a permanent holiday destination for our family. Thank you Silver Sands and see you in 2010 :-)

We booked to stay in a static caravan at this site for mid September, travelling with two young children including a 1 year old who still sleeps in a cot. Stupid me neglected to ask if there was room for a travel cot in the caravans when booking!
First the good news: If you are staying at Silver Sands in your own tent, caravan or tourer, this is a quiet, recommended site.
Lovely surroundings, close to the beach. Plenty of hedges and trees to provide screening from neighbours. There is a shower/toilet block, laundry and dishwashing facilities, information hut, kids sandpit, a toddler play area (which our children enjoyed) and a 2nd play area for slightly older kids.
Now the bad news: for those who are planning to rent one of the site's own static caravans, ours was quite dirty.
Plus if you have your own travel cot for a baby, there is insufficient floor space (apart from in the living room - but how is that practical?) to put it up - unless - you have a twin room with a bed loose enough to lift and put on top of the other, to make space. We saw inside three different caravans (a standard, standard plus and a superior) and all three were grubby and suffered the same travel cot space issue.
On arrival, our allocated 'Standard' caravan was very cramped and no room for our travel cot. To her credit, site owner Frankie was very helpful and moved us to a different caravan with a 2nd twin bedroom in which one bed could be moved to make room for our cot. We had 2 children with us so this 2nd bedroom ended up being very useful.
It seemed that the floors hadn't been mopped or hoovered in a long time. Frankie did warn us when we moved caravans that it hadn't been cleaned thoroughly but this was an understatement. The crockery was spotty with dried food. The cooker was dirty and the grill pan and oven shelf hadn't been cleaned. The whole caravan smelled old and fusty. Not good when our 1yr old is asthmatic! Luckily we'd camped on our way down and had all our own cooking utensils / crockery etc to use.
My wife and mother (who rented a superior caravan for the same week) spent a long time working in the caravans to make them reasonably clean. This should never be necessary at the start of a holiday. My parents complained and got £30 off the cost of their superior caravan.
The mattresses in our caravan were shocking. They were clearly very old and the springs were protruding.
There is no shop close by but a mobile shop comes round each day with a basic selection of groceries, sweets and newspapers. The man who drives it was very friendly and helpful. There is a supermarket in Helston.
Pubwise - we can recommend The Ship/Courthouse restaurant, signposted from the Gweek roundabout before Goonhilly. Superb value and great food. We also tried the Old Inn, Mullion which serves a great pint of Tribute but the food was average. The fish and chip shop in Lizard village (Smugglers) is excellent and is highly recommended.

Back from another great two weeks spent enjoying this family campsite. This is our third year and have booked for next year on the day we left. A big thanks to Frankie for keeping this site a relaxed and happy one, no noise after ten children and parents getting a good nights sleep at a reasonable time. Definitely an elite campsite with no hassle leading to a stress free and very chilled holiday. Mobile shop visited daily and walking distance to beach which is lifeguarded and excellent for snorkelling and rock pooling my boys loved it (age 6 and 8 ).

What can I say Frankie has got this site completely sorted. We stayed for a week in a royal bourdeaux so we were concerned over the sizes of pitches available, but we needn't have they were big enough to accommodate even the biggest of family tents. Each pitch is screened by shrubs and well maintained trees. Toilets and showers were always clean and never a queue. Beach & pub a short walk away and a small bar in caravan park next door. Freezer and covered dish washing area available this is on a donation basis with monies going to the air ambulance. There is also a mobile shop selling all you could need. In all a great site and one we will be returning to time and time again

This is our most favourite site, which is why we go back every year. As has been mentioned before the site is very well laid out with mature shrubs around the pitches. Frankie (the site owner) is always very friendly and welcoming. There is a specific field for walking dogs (but with the wonderful walks leading off of the park you are unlikely to need them. The park is a wildlife conservation area, and it is usual to see moths and bats in the evening. I have always found the facilities to be clean and well maintained and with two toddlers I have found the family room (containing a toilet, shower and hand basin) to be particularly useful. We tend to shop at Lidl (or is it Aldi? I always get the two confused) or Tesco, both in nearby Helston. There is a nice fish and chip shop in Helston or one on the Lizard. There is also a great Pick your own place just next to RNAS Culdrose down the road. We have always found Silversands to be a very quiet site and the other campers very friendly. Kennack Sands beach is split in two by a large mound, the further away end is dog friendly.

We have just returned from Silver Sands after one and a half weeks, it would have been two but the weather was very wet.
The site is lovely, hedges and shrubs surrounding each pitch was great, offering privacy and a bit of shelter from the wind, I really liked the fact that the tents were not on top of each other.
Big playing area in the middle where the kids can meet up to play, the kids loved it and we felt good that they were in earshot and only had to look across the field to see them. The evenings got quiet by about 9pm if it had stayed lighter then I'm sure the kids would have been out longer.
There is also a sandpit in the caravan area.
The toilet blocks were okay I never had to wait to use any of them, on occasion they were in need of a more thorough clean.
The middle shower in the mens and ladies seemed to have the best pressure and you didn't have to keep pressing the button, always plenty of hot water.
There is a hairdryer available for 20p, this was enough for my hair (short)but my daughters hair (long) needed two 20p's.
The dishwashing facilities were good, occasionally you would have to wait to wash up, but not long.
There are two freezers for ice blocks which were quite full but we never had a problem getting our blocks in.
There is a Spar in Mullion and Helston, also a Lidl and Tesco in Helston. We just shopped for what we needed on our way back from our days out.
Helston also has a laundrette.
The laundry facilities included one washing machine (£3.50) and one tumble dryer (50p for 20 mins)and a sink for handwashing. I think an additional machine and dryer would be good, especially for when the weather is very wet. Its hard getting clothes and towels dry in a tent.
We did have to wait quite a while to do our washing.
The stars on a clear evening were just so bright without the light pollution, my son occasionally saw bats flitting around and although I am not a big lover of moths there were some really beautiful moths I'd never seen before.
Kennack sands beach is just down the road and is a wonderful beach, very flat and some great rock pools.
Porthleven has a nice harbour to walk around and you can walk along the coast to Loe bar, the bakery in porthleven does some good pasties.
The Top House pub at the lizard serves good food as does the Cadgewith cove inn, but driving round Cadgewith is not for the fainthearted, there is a car park at the top of the hill, with a steep walk down to the cove and pub. I would advise people to reserve a table for meals or you could have to wait a while.
The fish and chip shop on the Lizard serves standard fish and chips approx £3.50 but also freshly caught fish and chips which was £5 but definitely worth it. Anns pasties are lovely but they are only open between 10 and 2.
A bit further afield (about an hours drive) there is the Minack theatre, definitely worth booking up to see a play,(you need to book up before you go on holiday as they get booked up very quickly) its stunning and the beach below at porthcurno is a gorgeous. Its quite steep to get down to though.
On the whole this site is fantastic, nice and quiet with good facilities. We have booked up to go back next year, we can't wait.

We liked the fact that you could walk to the beach (Kennack Sands) from this campsite. You need to go along a (quite steep in places) path in order to do so (for about half a mile).
The site is divided into two parts. We stayed in the camping side and the pitches were of a good size, divided by hedges / shrubs.
The toilet block was cleaned every day. There were three showers, three washbasins and the toilets all in quite a small area and it did occasionally get a bit busy.
There isn't a shop on the site. It's possible to walk up the road from Kennack Sands to a holiday park with a shop, but the road is very narrow and steep. So it is probably best to stock up in advance with supplies.
There was a freezer for ice packs in the washing up area but it was often hard to find enough space in it. Given that there isn't a shop on the site, if you don't have electrical hook up, this might be a bit of a problem.
