My family and I have been to this park every year since 2000 and love it. It changed ownership 2 years ago and they are getting on top of their new venture. It does have its faults, but it is no different than the rest, the main faults are the Morons who do not have any respect for themselves and the others around them. Empty toiletries left scattered around , loo paper strewn around the floor, and this year a toilet ripped of the floor and the pipe stuffed with the loo roll , but guess what ? this was the ladies toilet block. Year after year we have had the site owners complain about the ladies toilets ! I know that there have been alterations and more due for next year but could you forgive them for saying "Why bother" Chris and Mandy, Good luck, chin up and we will definitely be seeing you next year.

Quite disappointed with toilets/lavatories/showers : not practical at all : nothing to put your toilet bags/soap/shower gel/shampoo/shoes on : you have to put everything on the floor .and the floor is full of water. What about washing your hands? Actually you can only wash one hand at a time, as you have to keep on pressing it for the water to run through the tap. Taking a shower? You have to keep on pressing every 5 seconds for the water to flow, and the pressure is so so so low! Lots of cobwebs on top of your head too!

Having scoured the internernet for a number of weeks to find a good camping location, we decided that Penderleath was the place to stay - with free showers, good views, washing up and ice-block freezing facilities and an on-site pub, it had everything we were looking for. However, on arrival, it was obvious that our telephone booking had been pointless, as there was no record of us at reception and we had to provide all our details again. We got the distinct impression that finding us a plot was a bit of a chore and we got allocated the 'overnight' spot for our 5 day stay, from where none of the views were evident. The reception was somewhat frosty and to be fair, it didn't get any better throughout the week, especially when I had cause to complain that the freezer and the hairdryer in the ladies bathroom was not working. The response was basically one of shirking responsibility with a 'well what do you want me to do about it' attitude. We decided (for our own sanity) not to complain that the beer was 'off' in the on-site pub because it had obviously been sitting in the pipes for some time. Toilet roll was also a scarce commodity come mid-afternoon, as the washrooms had not been cleaned from 12-1.30pm as indicated by the signs at the site. The showers were nowhere near adequate for a half-full camp-site (3 were available in total) and on our last day (at around 8-8.30am), only one was working. Topped with the fact that on departure, a friendly wave to the campsite owner brought absolutely no response (bar a scowl), it was decided that this wasn't a campsite we'd like to stay at again. The location was the campsite's best feature but even though the site had much potential, the finishing touches really let it down and as such, I'm afraid this one gets a thumbs down for us!

We only planned to stay here for 3 days buy ended up staying 5! So that speaks for itself. The site is in an awesome position, over looking the bay and is only a short walk into St Ives. The toilet block was great, bar far the best I have experienced. Well done! Would not hesitate going back.

June 2005 Stayed at Penderleath 3rd week in June 2005 and found the site to be overall very good. The location is excellent for exploring St. Ives (only 10 mins. drive away) and surrounding areas.
Our pitch was in the highest field with great views of surrounding countryside and nearby tin-mine engine-house. Fortunately we arrived during a quiet period, at one point sharing our field with just 3 other tents. Therefore, there was no noise and we never had to queue for anything. The weather was also fortunately on our side and we had a very enjoyable stay.
The site grounds were very well maintained with a lot of consideration for surrounding environment. The staff were very friendly and laid back, which makes a change from some of the campsite nazis we've experienced. The bar in particular was very nice and very friendly. Facilities were generally ok but could do with expanding & modernising. Shower blocks could do with better showers and being a bit cleaner, but overall no real complaints. One irritation was that the whole week we were there no one refilled the soap dispensers. I would also have liked to see some recycling facilities too. Bizarrely, the well stocked shop was only open for half an hour in the morning & half an hour in the evening!
However, I agree with the other recent posts. We were lucky we went at a quiet period, if we went high season I'm sure we would see a different Penderleath, with much noise and over crowding. However, in some respects, queues are unavoidable no matter what campsite you're on. Noise, on the other hand, is totally avoidable and is usually caused by mindless chav'vy idiots who've no respect for others.
We would most definitely go back to Penderleath, but we would choose our time to go carefully.

August 2005 Penderleath is one of the best camp sites in St Ives. I have been to quite a few and have visited Penderleath on a number of occasions. It's peaceful, friendly and beautiful. After reading some of the other reviews, I don't think people realise that there is a new ownership on the site and this is their first season, and after talking to them this camp site is going to get better and better. I will certainly come back year after year. As for the cleanliness of the toilets, I know for a fact they are cleaned every other hour, but some of the hygeine standards of some of the visitors on the site leaves a little to be desired! I would like express my best wishes to Mandy & Chris and look forward to seeing them year after year.

August 2005 This would be a great site if the toilet/shower facilities were updated. I would gladly have used some 20p's for some hot water from an electic shower instead of the tepid water we all encountered in both male & female showers and sinks. Also the toilets were closed each day from 12pm-1.30pm which could be quite a pain (literally!).
However apart from this, all other aspects were good. The pitches were large enough (just) and all apart from the top field has some shelter from trees and shrubery. The bar served breakfast and decent meals although was a little pricey. The separate pool room was a bonus too.
If you visit, check out your O/S map and find the footpath to The Engine Inn - I have to say much better than the bar on site. This is only about 1/4 of mile away at most through the fields and its a great pub. Cheap prices, traditional meals (whole section of stews which pleased me no end) dogs welcome and good atmosphere.

August 2005 We stayed for six nights in August 2005 and although situated in a very attractive location, which was perfect for touring the area, we were disappointed overall with the site. It can get quite noisy therefore it is not ideal if you want a relaxing and peaceful holiday. The shower block is totally inadequate to cope with the number of people on the site - we were up at 6:30 every morning so we didn't have to queue for a shower!
Both the toilets and the showers were not very clean and the water in the mens' showers was either very hot or freezing cold. There was no thought given to the way in which the pitches were allocated, at times we were squashed in like sardines. The bar was very pleasant though so that is a plus point. We will however not return to this site in the future.

August 2005 The campsite is in a beautiful location and it is a very friendly and relaxed site. However, the amenities were very disappointing. There was always a queue for the toilets which were not clean. There was also a queue for the showers at busy times and again they were very dirty. The shop was ony open for half an hour twice a day which seems a bit pointless.
This is one of the worst campsites I have been to in terms on cleanliness.
WE did not chose our pitch as it was very busy and we were given a space a considerable distance from the toilets which was a nightmare in the middle of the night!

June 2005 We stayed at Penderleath the last week in June 2005. Because it wasn't busy we had the choice of pitches so we went for the lower field, the top field can get a bit windy although there is some shelter from the trees.
The site is well maintained and staff very friendly although I imagine the toilet / shower / cleaning facilities would get crowded in busy times. My only criticism was the toilet and shower blocks could have done with being a bit cleaner.
The site is ideally situated for a short drive to St Ives or touring the rest of the coastline.
