This is a great location for visiting either Aldeburgh or Southwold. A very pleasant and quiet site despite being so close to the busy A12, on a clear night the star gazing alone was worth the pitch fee. The site was well maintained with the roadways in good condition.
We declined to use the showers because, although they were clean, they had plenty of cracked tiles, and lots of spiders.
As others have said the site was free of rules and the staff were welcoming.
We found it good value.

We had a really lovely weekend at this site, found the owner to be very relaxed and friendly.
This campsite is really nicely spaced out, from the minute you arrive you are relaxed, there is no long list of rules, the owner just told us to pick a spot and sort out everything else once we were settled.
We went during the school holiday and when I called the owner said he was nearly full, but whilst we were there it never felt over crowded.
There is a nice shop with basics, nice touches like things the kids could buy for a pound.
They have a massive fire pit, that you can request to have. When we were there it was in the middle of the site and people hang around there having a beer, it was chilled, and a really nice touch.
We have 2 small boys and they loved the freedom of being able to run around.
The showers were not glam but the owner had plans for a new block that I see from other reviews is being completed now. We always found them to be clean, and we went I would say on one of the busiest weekends of the year and the owners wife was away, yet it was clean each time we used it.
This is a nice relaxed site, there's loads to do around it, beautiful beaches, Southwold pier, and the stars in the sky at night are beautiful.
We will be back, this exactly the kind of site we love, relaxed, low key, run by a family who cares about what their doing, we really enjoyed our time there.

Please bear in mind this is only our 2nd family camping trip so we have limited experience.
What we liked most about this site is how laid back it is. We weren't given a long list of rules when we arrived. In fact when we arrived there was a note on the reception door saying it was closed and to find a pitch and let them know later.
There are no pitch numbers just pitch where you like. We had paid for a pitch with electricity and easily found a pitch. The pitches are flat and it was easy to push the pegs in.
Several people complained that the grass was a bit long. It looked like it hadn't been cut for a couple weeks. The grass was cut while we were there though although not the whole site.
There is only one shower block so if you are unlucky to be the furthest away your looking at about a 200meter walk. The shower block has been refurbished and was clean and fresh.
There are only 2 showers in either the mens or womens side so I would imagine it can get a bit busy. Not a problem for us with an 8 year old daughter as we are up early. The shower I used didn't have anywhere to put your dry clothes but there is a hook on the wall so make sure you take a bag to hang up.
The showers were nice and hot the first night but were a bit cold the second in the mens. My wife had piping hot showers all weekend. The owner apologised and said they were having trouble with the pressure. The shower block is cleaned several times a day. They were being cleaned at 9. 30pm one night.
There are 2 washing up sinks for use in the shower block.
There is a small shop on site selling all the essentials and some lovely bbq packs of rare breed meats. Anything you cant get on site can be purchased from a londis which is a 5 minute drive to the jet petrol station on the a12 in darshan
The site is well located for visits to the local attractions. The RSPB reserve at minsmere, southwold, aldeburgh, and walberswick being a few.
We spent a day at southwold. Its worth getting there fairly early so you can park easily. There's a pay and display car park at the pier. £4. 50 pays for more than 4 hours. There are also small beach huts for hire for £20 for the day. Which seems a good price. Again first come first served.
Dogs are welcome but not on the beach between may and september. They are allowed on the promenade but must be on a lead. I walked along the promenade with my dog and my wife and daughter along the sandy beach.
It took several hours to walk along the full length of the beach (there was lots of stopping fir paddling) We stopped about half way along to have a panini lunch at one of the beach front vendors. Then back through the town were we purchased 2 crabbing lines
We also visited walberswick, where they used to hold the world crabbing championship, to use the crabbing lines we had purchased. Again car parking can be a problem but we struck it lucky with the car park full sign being taken down as we arrived. £3 pays for parking for as long as you like.
So crabbing lines were baited up with cheap bacon from londis and away we went. We have a wonderful 2 hours crabbing catching over 60 small crabs. These were released every time the bucket was full.
All in all we had a great weekend. We will return to the area and most probably stay at haw wood again.

Lovely site, very spacious and well kept-except for the dog walk which is very overgrown, and the toilet/ shower block. All this site needs is a new toilet/ shower block, reading the other reviews it has been promised for a long while. It is not helped by the fact that there is no soap, and soon runs out of toilet roll. Half the toilets do not flush properly.
The showers, 2 male and 2 female are really old and poorly maintained. For the amount of pitches there is a lack of facilities. The toilets are far from some of the camping pitches, maybe two new blocks, some extra bins at the far end of the site, and a doggy bin on the dog walk? Apart from that, a really quiet site where you are left alone. Will visit again.

There is lots of space here for children to play. A nice safe site for kids.
The A12 is quite audible from the site especially at night.
The toilets, showers and washing up facilities absolutely atrocious.
I'm surprised environmental health haven't stepped in yet. Leaking pipes and a smell of drains by washing up sinks, cold water only!
The showers were filthy. Bleach was thrown around in the mornings but the floors and drains not cleaned of hair and fluff so still filthy. Toilets were very hard to flush and with so many kids on site you could guarantee you'd be greeted by a floater 90% of the time. We took our own loo roll as always which was lucky as the site provided fresh ones first thing in the morning but were used up by lunchtime.
We arrived on a Saturday and the shop was open, we left on Tuesday and the shop had not opened again since Saturday.
This is such a shame and the owners must be aware of the problems. The site has a great location and could be beautiful. Even without new facilities a proper clean daily, not just a little wipe here and there would go a long way.

It is true, this is a very basic site and yet I have been back three times and have just returned from our third annual visit. The toilet block is it's main downfall, it is some distance from the main touring field and is very run down. But having said that this is a great site.
The pitches are large and the owners very flexible on how you pitch particularly if you are a group camping together. As long as you are not impacting other visitors you can pitch how you like within reason.
Also (although I am somewhat loath to pass this on in case the site becomes too busy), there are great plans afoot. During a long chat with the owners they told me that they are planning a new touring block - hurrah! This is all that this site needs in my opinion, I don't want mega facilities, just somewhere nice to take a shower and go to the loo suits me fine. They were hoping to start end July but these things sometimes take longer than planned. The site has changed ownership, the son has taken over and they are keen to expand the facilities with a cafe and other exciting stuff.
This site is in a great position, not far from Dunwich, Southwold and Aldeburgh - the nicest Suffolk coastal towns in my opinion. So yes, it is back to basics (very much so for now) but I still really enjoy this site every time I visit.

Right to be clear, this is a private site, run on a farm. It does not have a restaurant, club, swimming pool, amusement arcade, theatre, thousands of units on site or a whole raft of junk food outlets.
What it does have is a toilet block, basic showers, a children's play area, a dog exercise area and well marked spacious pitches.
This is a site that is not afraid to hang out the full sign even if half the units on are two man tents. The site is level, easy to stake out on, has plenty of taps for fresh water, a good chemical disposal point, recycling facilities and a good shop that sells local produce.
We find the price very competitive, the site owners very friendly and the space and nature of the site ideal. If you want to be near a pub go camp on the council site at Southwold harbour and see if you can put up being less than 3 feet from the next unit!
If you want to relax, unwind, enjoy the countryside, appreciate peace and quiet then please go to this site, as it will not disappoint. You are within easy driving dstance of Great Yarmouth, Southwold and Lowestoft, the A12 is very near so access is good.
We like this site, even with basic showers, you are not paying through the nose for these facilities, it is a good price for a great site. We love this site and are going back in a few weeks with our caravan (just bought). When there we will pitch and enjoy the site, the facilities and the fact it is dog friendly. Well worth staying on for people who intend to visit Suffolk, with their four legged friend!

We arrived here on the Good Friday for the 3 nights. Note we are a family of 4, the price per night was £17 and then you pay an extra £2 per child! Making it £21 a night. Total of £63.
The campsite is very basic indeed!
Its a farm! There is a makeshift unit which is the shop. It has all the usual items you would expect which was good. Although the shop opens between 9-12 and 3-6 every day. Daily papers and milk and bread is there too.
The 'showerblock' was not what we expected for the price we paid. They were very old and quite frankly very disappointing. I took my 2 boys with me in the morning for a shower to find a least 5 to 8 spiders in the tray-which my boys nearly jump and bang there heads on the ceiling!
And the water pressure if that's what you call it was useless-im sorry to say! You had to push the tap to let the water trickle out and and try to wash yourself at the same time! My boys were cold and upset by this. My wife had the same experience in her block and she is a lot critical than I normally am!.
If you have a caravan then you would probably want to use your own shower in your comfort and privacy. The toilets were dirty and grimy as well. Overall out of ten for the shower block its a 2!
The pitches on the other hand were big and spacious.
The site was not busy for a Bank Holiday. The pitches were of a generous size. The whole site is flat and there are Statics too to hire if you so wish. Electric hook ups and tents are welcome too. They are currently spending some money on doing the roads to the pitches with tarmac and also they have planted lots of new trees and shrubs which will look good in a few years to come I think. Dogs are welcome and there is fields to take them for walks etc.
There is a playground for the ages up to 10 or so. A good size. And nothing else there. You have to make your own entertainment. No pubs or clubs nearby, which is what we preferred really. We played football and badminton/tennis with our own equipment. There is a pay and play golf down the round and clay pigeon shooting which is audible. And there is a Little Chef very near to the site if you do not want to cook for yourself.
We will not go back to this site purely because of the showers and the price. It is ideal for a stop over but not much else in my opinion.
Ther are attractions around to visit like Southwold which we loved!

Quiet little site, as said below very basic facilities and the showers are still poor. Shop on site only open one hour in morning and one in afternoon. Be careful when booking as any kids over 5 are charged at £1.50 a day. On top of the £14.00 a day per pitch. So if you have a few kids works out expensive as I found out the hard way.

This is a very basic little site. Ideal for exploring Southwold, Dunwich and the surrounding area. Very relaxed and the couple who run this site are delightful. We have spent many a weekend here with a big crowd of families and always had a lovely time. The only negative would be the lack of facilities. Showers are awful! And washing up minimal. But on our last visit there was talk of new facilities being built.(last aug2005) So could have changed since then. There are a large number of static caravans but the tent field is separate from caravan park. Good for short stays not ideal for a long camp.
