After driving round for hours looking for a campsite that wasn`t full or closed due to flooding, we saw a sign for Hoathwaite Farm & were overjoyed when the lady in the farmhouse told us she had plenty of space, albeit soaking wet! We were told just to park sensibly, so not as to get bogged down and stuck in the thick mud. As previously mentioned, this site is very basic. There is a toilet block, located halfway up the hill, away from the main camping area. The toilet block was as clean as could be expected with the terrible wet / muddy conditions, but there are literally only two toilets and one hand basin each in the ladies and gents. A porta-loo is almost an essential here. On the plus side, it is very reasonably priced, only £7 a night for me and my son! The views over Lake Coniston are breathtaking, with access for the lake being at the bottom of the field. A lovely back to basics, nicely old-fashioned, very quiet campsite. We can`t wait to go back, with hopefully better weather next time.

Cheap and cheerful! Plenty of room with clean toilets on sight, but bring your own toilet paper! Ideal location for lake walks, and if you are interested in climbing the old man it is only a 5 minute drive away. Situated between torver and coniston with which both have excellent pubs with local brews. Turn off main road at the green rusted railings as a bit of advice! Pitch tent at the top field if there has been a lot of rain as the bottom field gets muddy. Would definitely visit again!

A very very basic site, you need your own toilet as there are none and consider a solar shower or using the facilities at Coniston Old hall campsite which is 2 fields away.
Nice setting and generally quiet, the beauty of this place is that there are large areas so space isn't a problem, camp fires are allowed, the rules state not but everyone seemed to use them and its a lot quieter than the afore-mentioned site ,the site drops down to the lake and the kids loved it. Would use again.

Just spent the past week here with my girlfriend - was my first visit to the site and it was exactly what we wanted. As long as you're happy using a loo-tent then this site is excellent - we were there during summer holiday time yet the site wasn't over-crowded - very peaceful in fact. Direct access to lake coniston - it's right there at the bottom of the site - so excellent for sailors, canoeing. Such a contrast to the over-crowded, noisy Coniston Hall site 5 mins walk away (although there is a shower block there ;-)

July 2003 I first camped here when I was thirteen and have revisited it for many years and little has changed. Totally basic site, water and a sceptic tank. Location, views and space are the premium points and the direct access to Coniston Water. Walks onto the Coniston fells direct from the site. Can get a bit busy as it is favoured by many schools and scouts etc. But there is enough space to not really matter. CL site for caravan club members only.
