After rejecting our planned campsite upon arrival, this ‘emergency’ stop was a welcome relief. Lovely flat tent area, clean, short grass, next to the playpark but with enough space between the last tent (us) and it so that we weren’t bothered by the noise. Very quiet while we were there, which was good as we had no idea which side of our number board we should pitch (front, back, left, right???). The river (more of a stream at that point) is right at the back of the tent area and there’s a couple of donkeys in the field next door. There’s also ducks waddling around and enjoying the massive puddle (more a pond) left from the heavy rain we’d had. The pitches themselves were well drained, though I did see a warning that sometimes flooding did occur in some places.
Showers were clean, rather hot (no temp dial) and of the push-button fixed-head variety. Oh, this is if you go after 7am, much before that and they’ll be cold! Entry is by keypad, though the ladies was broken the week we were there. There’s a lovely family bathroom, again very clean. One strange point – there’s only one cold tap in each block.
Washing up area with two sinks was on the outside, but well sheltered. Small information room with lots of leaflets, though no personal touches like the weather report or menus of local restaurants/takeouts. Small kitchen, locked with a sign to ask if emergency use needed – iceblocks can be put in the shop’s icecream chest. Large games room that only seemed to have a pool table (£20 deposit for the equipment). Swallows’ nest outside the laundry room!
People running the place seemed friendly enough, though I had no idea what to do if I needed to get in touch with them after the shop shut.
Local area was lovely. Very nice walk and playpark down by the river Peebles, along with places to paddle. We will certainly go again when we’re in this area.

1st visit and went for a weekend stay with a group of friends with 4 tents, lovely weather, had booked EHU so were situated right next to a very small stream. Ground was hard under the grass, and had to park in front of the tent as no room at the side. Small shop on site and assistant was very helpful. Toilets were clean, and looked newly built. Dish washing however was outside, although covered. Small games room, but my 14 year old didn't use it. Had laundry facilities but didn't use. Large children's playpark situated beside tourers and a field with 2 donkeys, just next to the camping field. Not far into Peebles, which has a large array of mostly clothes shops. Tesco and Sainsbury with a 10 min walk. All in all the campsite was very nice. Until the torrential rain started! The small stream grew overnight to about 6 feet from our tent, half the camping field disappeared under water and caravans were surrounded. Even the donkeys were marooned on a wee island. We could have stayed til later in the day, but were warned by seasonals that we had 2 hours max to get out before all the site was under water, as more water would come down from the surrounding hills - we left quicksmart! Would return if it could be guaranteed it wouldn't rain. £20 per night and £10 deposit for barrier key.

Stayed here over the Easter weekend, a really great site, my 10 year old daughter loved making new friends, the play park and the donkeys, however my 15 year old son was a little bored at times, especially when the site got a little busier and we were unable to play frisbee and such like, although a games room was provided there was not a lot of choice.
My one issue was the washing up facilities were located outdoors although under cover, they were also next to the chemical toilet disposal unit, in addition there were only two sinks.
The site is located on the edge of a housing estate and by a stream, also the main road into Edinburgh, this aside, don't be put off as there was little road noise and although we overlooked the back of the houses, you are not 'on top of them'. However to the other side of the site were fields.
My one annoyance was that we could hear dirt bikes a lot on an evening as there seems to be a practise track to the rear of the site. Although a biker myself I found after a while the noise irritating and spoiled the otherwise tranquil evenings.
The showers were fab, the toilet blocks were well cared for and the staff were great and friendly, as were the resident caravanners who always exchanged a word or two.
Peebles is a lovely little village and we did eat out in the local Italian one night although I felt that the food was ok but not brilliant however I was the only one in the family that thought this!
After more investigation we found loads of other places and takeaways along with major shops such as Tescos and Sainsburys, all within walking distance. There is also a Swimming Pool which is located beside the bridge at the end of the main street, which the kids thoroughly enjoyed, as did the other half!
We ventured into Edinburgh and thought we'd use the Park and Ride, however beware, the buses will only accept the correct fare, we did not have this as we had no change so had to drive into Edinburgh and park there.
We were lucky to have mostly brilliant weather, but on one day it rained heavy but the ground soon dried up when the sun came out so no mud!
The pitches are a little close together and there were some inconsiderate people who decided to park their car in front of our tent when we were sitting outside.
On the whole a brilliant site and despite having booked for a European holiday we have now cancelled that one and are booking to come back to Peebles. Even voted for by the bored teenager!
One further note, the chocolate shops in Peebles are fab!

Spent a fabulous bank holiday weekend at the end of August at this site and were very pleasantly surprised. Will definitely come back but for a longer break next time as it was a longer journey than we anticipated.
This site is largely given over to caravans and camper vans and they seem a bit cramped but is nicely laid out with trees and shrubs dotted about and a little brook running around the edge. Its a bit of a strange set up being so close to residential property and a busy road, although you don’t really hear much of the traffic.
The camping field is small and they didn’t even take a deposit for our booking so I was a bit worried that we would have a 2 hour journey and find nowhere to set up. There are 22 pitches marked out but I would say that it would be massively overcrowded if full – luckily there were only 8 tents when we were there.
There are 2 toilet/shower blocks, one old and one new. We only used the new one which was fine but needs to be looked after or it will quickly go downhill. We never found any queues for the facilities but I guess a lot of the caravan owners use their own.
The surrounding area is a walker and cyclists dream with Glentress and Cardrona forest trails. My husband and our friends took our sons to Kailzie gardens where the hired fishing rods and caught 5 decent sized rainbow trout which well barbequed for our supper.
As previously mentioned in other posts it is close enough to walk to Tescos, Sainsburys and the town centre. I would definitely recommend not driving to the town centre as parking is a nightmare. There is a lovely park by the riverside for kids.

Just spent four nights on the site which was great apart from the weather. Good pitch next to the stream and the toilet shower/blocks were kept spotless. Play area for kids. Very handy for biking at Glentress and short walk into Peebles where there is a very good fish and chip shop and lovely pub/restaurant called the County Inn where we had some really good food.Only 40 minutes from Edinburgh. Would definitely stay here again. Very reasonably priced.

We visited this site having been last year with our tent, because the toilets had been spotless, which is our main criterion to staying at a site. This time was no different, although my wife did say there was an unpleasant smell around the ladies, but the facilities were clean.
Fees were value for money, staff are friendly.Small shop on-site has only basic provisions, but it does have a superb array of accessories which came to our rescue over the weekend. There is a well stocked Spar within the petrol station at the entrance to the site. We will defo be back!

We visited this site and our pitches were in the camping field without electric hook up. No hook up wasn't an issue for us as we were only there for one night.
We were more than happy with this site - the staff in the site shop / reception were helpful and site was well looked after. The toilets and showers were clean and tidy.
The weather when we were there was not great but that did not concern us at all.
Would recommend this site - it was quiet but friendly and good for families as there is a playpark with a large sand pit close to the tent pitch. It was handy for us as the children could play safely whilst we could keep an eye on them.
Peebles is a lovely town with lots to see and do and is within easy walking distance. There is a petrol station with a spar shop at the entrance to the park and you can walk to tesco and sainsburys for all your grocery requirements.
Looking forward to visiting again!

This was our third visit to Crossburn in two years, each time the standard of facilities has always been the same, which is, very good indeed!
Would concur with previous reviews so most things you need to know have been said, for those with tents the point about the stones just below the surface is must to remember, normal tent pegs just aren't up to it.
One point not mentioned recently, there is a Shell filling station with a small SPAR shop immediately outside the entrance to the camp, very handy. Also if you walk through the petrol station to the rear there is a path through a new housing estate that leads to the river and makes a nice walk to the Tesco store, much nicer (and quieter) than using the main road. Takes about 8 minutes.

Second year we've stayed here and will return again. Toilet and shower block immaculate as always. The donkeys like a carrot each! Great steak pie and chips at the Greentree hotel. Pleasant walk around Peebles. Great walk and mountain bike track at Glentress for all family.
