We've camped in Peebles for years so are familiar with the great shops to poke around in, lovely riverside walks, wealth of eateries and pubs as well as mountain biking at Glentress, but fancied a wee change from our usual site so tried this one on a whim. What a result!
OK it's slightly further away from the main street and Sainsburys but it has a charm of its own with a lovely wee stream the kids played in for ages ,together with 2 donkeys to feed, a little dog walking area, a games room, a kitchen for cooking in emergencies, a good park for the kids which included a sandpit and very spacious and bright loo / shower facilities in the new block. OK the old block is dated (obviously) but its fine for a quick dash to the loo then you can shower in the more palatial new block.
What made the whole experience extra special is not having to leave until 5.00pm which makes it feel like you have a whole extra day to unwind and with the glorious weather we certainly did unwind in a wonderful new addition to our list of weekend retreats

Just returned from a 2 night stay at Crossburn. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite the weather.
Site and facilities immaculate and secure (barrier pass entry). Staff gave us a very warm welcome. Shop equipped with lots of little essentials (if you forget anything). Good value for money all round. Daughter enjoyed the play area and the donkeys. Walked into Peebles twice. Easily accessible. Tesco and Sainsbury round the corner as well as a spar at the garage at entrance to site. Pitches good size and plenty of waste disposal and drinking water points.
Shower blocks old and new were exceptionally clean, warm and free hot water. Mop on hand too. Hairdryers in two of the showers.
Can't wait to return next year. Thank you for a great couple of days.

I've recently had the pleasure of a night at the Crossburn site whilst travelling back from the far North of Scotland.
Unfortunately I had been delayed by bad weather, and so phoned ahead to inform the site that I would be late. They couldn't have been more helpful, and made arrangements for me to be able to gain access and settle into my pitch for the night.
I finally rolled in in the dark, on a wet August night, and the arrangements had been put in place as promised. I made my way to my allocated pitch, and set camp for the night.
One observation is that the ground is very rocky. You'll need some driven pegs. None of my standard pegs would go more than an inch or two into the ground, so luckily the wind was calm for the night. This was probably just a case of my particular pitch, and probably isn't so much of a problem in the main tent field.
The shower / toilet block is very modern, clean and well presented. My only niggle with the site would be that it is a little dear, at £16 for a night.
Peebles town centre is around 15-20 mins walk away, and is a lovely, quaint little place to have a browse around. The area is also very picturesque, the site being an good location from which to explore.
Altogether, a very nice site, accommodating to tents, although obviously with a bias towards caravans. Excellent service, and a lovely location. Just watch those pegs!

Just returned from 2 weeks at Crossburn and can honestly say we had a lovely time.
We had a large tent (Hartford XL) but our EHU pitch next to the stream was plenty big enough.
The toilet blocks are as described in previous reviews - Both the old and the new blocks are kept clean. I only showered in the new block which had plenty of space. (old one was a bit dark, and cramped in comparison to the new) You need to be aware of the hot water though - the showers are at times very hot and you need to be careful before you step in! All showers are free.
There is an info room (loads of leaflets and takeaway menu's), games room (not much in other than a pool table - £20 deposit for cues - but a good gathering place if there is a group of you) and a laundry (£4 wash / £2 30 minutes drying)
The shop is more geared to Caravans, but they do stock the basics - for anything else there are 2 Spars, a Tesco and a Sainsbury's in the town! For ice packs, you can re-freeze them in the shops freezer, but you will need to make sure that you are back in time to retrieve them before the shop shuts at 5.30pm.
The site is great for kids - a good playground and plenty of space including a small stream where they can 'fish' - but if you like a lot of peace and quiet then this probably isn't the place for you.
Overall I really liked the site and felt that it was much better cared for than other local sites. The fact that we had until 5pm to leave on our last day was a real bonus - especially considering the morning rain!

This is a lovely site with good facilities and is only a short trip into the town of Peebles. The tent field was relatively quiet during our stay, but I think when it is full it won't feel quite so private and I would therefore avoid busy weekends/holiday periods.
The first tent pitch we were allocated was right in the middle of the tent field (all the others around us) and right on the edge of the children's playing area. We went back to reception on seeing this and requested an 'outside' pitch (backing onto the trees and a bit away from the playpark) - this was rearranged with no problems at all.

We stayed 2 nights at this site and this is the second time we have been. The site is close to the town and so you can walk in easily in under 15 minutes. There are a good selection of pubs and places to eat. The site owners are friendly and helpful. The toilets and showers are clean and modern and there is a small onsite shop which is handy. There is also a garage next door with a well stocked shop. It was a fantastic weekend and we will definitely go back.

Visited this site for the first time in 3 or 4 years last weekend. We used to visit this site once or twice a year for weekend breaks due its location but stopped going as the toilet blocks had become rather run down.
However due to its location we were enticed back as Peebles is a great little town within walking distance of the site and is a great base for touring the borders. Also the main toilet block was revamped in the last couple of years.
Unfortunately whilst revamped and spacious they remain disappointing. The water runs from the shower into the area for dressing, the glass doors on some would not stay closed, the water was at best warm and the cleanliness was somewhat lacking. Although I have to say fellow campers did nothing to help this. Soiled nappies left on a toilet seat when there was a bin less than 5 feet away and excrement over toilet seats being two of the worst examples.
The site itself is a mix of statics, touring caravans and a tent field and used to be well maintained. Unfortunately now the site feels pretty tired and the pitches not that well kept.
Pitches are tight and not all are capable of taking larger units. We paid for a serviced pitch as these are a slightly larger but if we and our neighbours behind reached out of the rear van windows we could have touched.
The hardstanding pitch was not well kept, being covered in debris from the dividing shrubbery and weeds. The debris had turned to mud and due to recent rain meant we had to step over some areas where it had pooled or we have trailed mud into the van.
Shame really as this site has the potential to be great due to its location. We love Peebles as it has a great selection of shops, cafes, bars etc and plenty in the area for families. We don't look for much, just a well maintained site and a clean toilet block. If this site could meet the CC site standards we would visit regularly but as it stands we would not rush back.

A nice site in a lovely part of the world.
There were two toilet blocks to chose from, one refurbished and one older, and generally speaking the older one was quieter, which was fine as they were both clean and tidy.
There's a kids' play area in the middle of one group of pitches and people without kids might want to avoid those if they don't like noise - although there was nothing extreme!
The pitch we were in was a bit tight if we'd wanted to put an awning up but apart from that we really liked this site and would certainly go back.
Peebles with its pubs and shops is a short walk away as is loads of beautiful scenery.
One other thing we found excellent was the fact that there was no pressure on us to leave early on the day of departure, making it seem like we had almost an extra day on site.

This is generally a good site with good facilities - the new loo block is fab with lots of hot water but it can get a little messy if its been raining hard which it did do during our short stay. There is a large tent field but it gets water logged if it rains heavy. There is a good play area for the kids, a games room and a well stocked info room so no reason to get bored. There was some info posted on the outside of the shop of up and coming events. It's a short walk into Peebles where there are lots of places to eat and Tesco is a 5 min walk. The site shop is well stocked and the staff very friendly. The rubbish bins are emptied on a daily basis, however we felt that the hedges and trees needed to be tended to. The pitches are fine if youre only staying a couple of days - they are on the neat side, and we discovered seasonal pitches which are very closely packed together - you could have a chat with your neighbour without leaving your van! Its a great site for families and bikers who use the Glentress forest. Hope to visit again soon.

Clean and tidy site with excellent facilities but a bit off a shock when was charged £16 per night for a two man tent + car in June, (with the additional charge of £10 deposit for the barrier to enter the site) a bit steep for anyone.
Two toilet blocks on site old and new, both very clean with shower facilities, there is also a laundry service on site. Picnic bench area and small park.
The site is near the main road but due to location you don't hear any traffic noise, there is a garage next to the site where you can pick up hot tea and coffee.
Wonderful views and most of tent pitches next to the river. Close to town centre of Peebles and with easy access to the borders and Edinburgh.
