I managed to get a fully serviced pitch on this site for the May holiday weekend and, helped by marvellous hot weather, this turned out to be an excellent choice.
Friendly staff in the shop, booking in was prompt and informative. Pitch was excellent and although there are 2 toilet blocks (everyone seemed to want to use the newer block where the cubicles have more space) I used the older block and it was more than adequate. Water hot, facilities clean and tidy.
A useful garage shop next door which sells all the essentials (papers, rolls etc.) and the site was full of friendly people - first time caravanners, campers etc and it was a real privilege helping out - remember that the Scottish Borders is Digital TV and tuning accurately to the nearest transmitter (which is a node and only has 20 channels at best, more usually 10)
Easy walk into Peebles Town Centre (20 minutes) and lots to do in the area.
The only tricky bit about this site is the steep exit which could catch out the unwary.

This was our first foray into family camping. We went for a low-risk one-night trial during good weather (20C) with kids aged 3 and 7.
The park was clean and tidy, pitches were large enough to easily accommodated our 5-person tent. The 'new' toilet block was generally clean, but shower floors got rather wet at busy times (mops would have been handy to help keep them dry). Water pressure could run low at busy times, but this did not cause a serious problem for us. The kids loved exploring down to the stream, feeding the donkeys and joining other kids in the play-park.
We did not use the campsite shop but there is a petrol station / small Spar shop at the entrance to the campsite, which stocks the basics and can offer hot tea or coffee. The new Tesco's is easily walkable (turn into March St.) and there is also a Sainsbury's before you hit the town centre (pedestrian access tucked in halfway along Northgate).
Robert Smail's printing works at Innerliethen was a hit with the kids - they could try their hand at printing themselves a bookmark. Dawyck gardens were also fun - full of colour and easy walking. Picnics are allowed.

The site is located on the edge of Peebles, its about a 15 minute walk into the centre of the town, but there is a new Tesco store within a 5 minute walk from the site which offer more than the Spar shop adjacent to the site entrance (although the Spar does stock all your basics if you don't want to venture out).
All the staff were very friendly and helpful as were all the other caravanners and campers. There is a play area for the children, which kept them amused for hours and the icing on the cake was the Donkeys in the next field, so take plenty carrots with you, the children love feeding them. Best feed donkeys in Scotland!.
The site is a mixture of grass pitches and hard standings and all were very level. It is a pleasant and well kept site.
The washroom/showers were ok, wouldn't say they were 5star though. The water was hot but very sporadic, it was a though there wasn't adequate water pressure when other watered facilities were being used.
This is a very nice site in pleasant surroundings and I wouldn't think anyone come hear would be disappointed.

This was our first visit to the site and also our first venture with the tent. We found the site overall to be clean and tidy. Our two boys loved playing in the play park and visiting the donkeys. We found the shop to be stocked with all the correct items and the staff friendly. Site not far from Peebles centre where we got fish and chips one night. Good site for mountain bikes as Glentress is not far. We will return.

Just come back from a stay on this site. Reception very welcoming and helpful, shop well stocked for caravan bits and pieces. Site was very clean and tidy. The pitch we were given was a little too cramped and we felt that too many caravans had been put in too small a space.
We were fine with the space within the row but felt the caravans opposite were way to close for any form of privacy.
The site has just been awarded 5 stars - but we have stayed on other five stars and we felt that this site lacked some of the comforts. The toilet block was clean - but the loo roll dispensers were rubbish. Some were loose - one was on the floor and the dispensers only issued one piece of paper at a time.
The site 'dog walk' is quite inadequate for anything but small dogs - The walk is also very close to the area allocated for tents and we did feel a little uncomfortable using the area so close to families sitting out eating etc,
The site is in excellent walking distance of Peebles.

On arrival found the shop to be well stocked for essentials. Be aware of £2 booking fee not shown on their web site, do not like little extras.
When we eventually found our pitch another family was already there so we took an alternative. Bad move pitched under pine trees and our tent was covered in sap.
The ground is hard and rock pegs are highly reccommended. This was the first time our tent leaked because the ground is so hard, when it rained water sat underneath us like walking on a water bed.
Once we found the new toilet block facilities are fantastic. My young children we scared of the old ones.Strange to have built a new block and to have the washing up area still outside(only one sink)
Not much of a dog walking area but the surrounding area around makes this a good base. Would come back for a short stay as there is so much to see and do, lots of good forestry commission trails.

A short stay of two night with our Hartford XL with EHU.
A warm welcome from reception in a well stocked shop.
The site has around 6 EHU points for tents from what I could see. These are on the far side of the site in a nice sheltered spot. Albeit a wee bit more of a walk to the toilet block it's no hardship.
There are two toilet blocks, one old, one new. The old one is fine, the new one is SUPERB! Warm, clean and great roomy showers.
The play park was good for the kids, and we were happy to allow our 6 year olds to run around with walkie talkies. There is a wee river to look out for with wee ones. Donkeys to feed on site too, don't forget the carrots, and the donkeys will not forget you.
My only grip would be that the EHU pitches were a bit crammed in (HARTFORD XL!) and shady. This didn't spoil our stay but then it didn't give you feeling of space you crave while camping. Non EHU tenters don't have this problem as there is loads of space in the tent field.
Previous posters have said the ground was pretty rocky for pegs. Rock pegs will see you through this. Take a claw hammer to remove them for minimal peg loss when taking down your tent. We lost about 6 pegs most of which were wire pegs.
Peebles has loads to do, mecca for bikes at glentress, osprey watching, traquair house is a full day's entertainment. Peeble high street is a lovely street with a fabulous chippie!
Great site, loved the new toilet block. Best I've seen. Will certainly be back, asking for another pitch we have our eyes on! ;-)

This is one of our regular weekend sites as it's less than a 40 minutes drive from home. Very efficient and welcoming staff, clean, tidy and well maintained pitches and the toilet blocks are kept immaculate.
There is a useful sized play area and a stile access to the burn where the kids can paddle. (And fall in, but it's not deep at this section.) There are two donkeys in an adjacent field to visit and lots of rabbits hopping around. If you have very small children it would be worth asking for a pitch away from the burn as it is not fenced in along some areas behind the pitches.
Peebles is a lovely Borders town, full of interesting little shops and has a good swimming pool. It's very near Glen Tress, for mountain biking, and Traquair House is only seven miles away. Well worth a visit for the maze, good kids adventure playground and picnics. We had good fun one year going round the Abbey trail, to all the big Borders abbeys. Nearest supermarket is a very good Somerfield five minutes away, and there's a small Sainsbury beside the big car park as you go into town.
Two points about the campsite. The Velux windows in the ladies toilets have been reglazed with frosted glass so there's definitely no more embarassing reflections. I remembered this from previous visits so made a point of checking last weekend! Also, take rock pegs for this site. The piches are grassy but over hardcore, which makes for difficult pegging with normal pegs. The campsite shop sells a huge range of mostly caravanning spares so you can buy rock pegs there, but at a price.

Just back from a two night stay at Crossburn. The site was extremely clean, staff at reception were friendly and Peebles town centre is less than a mile away. Although I do feel the site owners have crammed as many static and tourer caravans as they possible can onto the site, there are also several areas where caravans are either for sale or being stored.
If you are pitching near the river bank I would recommend rock pegs, I could hardly go below the ground surface before hitting something. I would also suggest pitching at the back of the site near the river, behind the drinking tap as the pitches in this area are more private and larger. I would also recommend taking earplugs as the noise from the traffic at night can travel quite a bit. The A road outside the camp is generally quiet at night, however the boy racers were out and about winding their engines up to the red line.
The biggest downfall of this site was the noise at night. Unfortunately they were approx three family's in tourer caravans who were drinking, shouting and blasting out the music on both nights until after 1am. There is no warden patrolling the site at night, nor any night-time site contact number. I did complain to reception in the morning, however they were not willing to do anything as the families were leaving that day. If these families had kept the noise down it would have been a perfect break and I realise it was just bad luck.
The site is definitely worth a visit, kids liked the play park and walking along the river bank. Plenty of good eateries and shops in Peebles. Well worth a visit to the pub on the main street for a meal. Forgot its name, but its very near the Peebles fish and chip shop. On the same side of the street.
There is a petrol station at the entrance to the site which sells the usual crisp, sweets, wine, beer, etc.
The site still has the old and new toilet blocks, both each require keying in an entry code to access. Young kids will struggle to reach the keypad. There is also a games hall/room, but nothing inside it, apart from a couple of fruit machines.

Just got back from a week on this site. Very nice place. We pitched up near the newer toilet block which was very clean. Hot showers day and night, cold tap for teeth cleaning and bins emptied daily. Velux roof windows have now been covered with frosted film so no more mirror effect at night! Good play area in the middle which we had trouble prising our 6yr old daughter away from! Site shop is camping gear and chocy bars only but Shell/Spar is just outside the site and open 'till 10pm.
If like us you get there late then we highly recommend Peebles Fish Bar on the High Street which does fish+chips, kebabs and pizzas to order, and they're open 'till midnight! Within walking distance is a Somerfield and Sainsburys.
We felt totally safe in the site and all the staff were very polite. The only thing that really bugged us was the pitch. We wanted electric hook up so we were put on a grass pitch that could also take caravans, the downside was that under the 4" or so of earth was compacted hard core, I now have several bent ground stakes to straighten! Other than that it's a very well run site.
