A return visit to this site that turned out to be shorter for me than I would have hoped.

Nothing to do with the site, I hasten to add. Having arrived on the Saturday, I ended up in hospital from the Monday-Saturday night having had to speak to the wardens first. My husband and son continued their stay, visiting me every day. At one point we thought I'd have to undergo an emergency op. At all times the wardens were fantastic with my husband and said that if they had to stay on they'd accommodate them some how. This was a huge relief to me as we were 4 hours from home. As it was the hospital got me stable enough to return home for my op.

Thank you to the wardens at the site for all their help. We will once again return to this beautiful place.

[oh and Edinburgh Royal Infirmary is a brilliant hospital if you are unfortunate enough to end up there!]

I booked this site because I wanted to visit the surrounding coastal area. The reviews on here were great, which was why I chose this site, however, I don't think the site was all that marvellous. I mean, it was OKAY, but nothing brilliant. It had friendly enough staff on reception and an adequate, large toilet block and a good enough kids' play area, but the site was not very pretty in itself. We were pitched next to a farmer's field.

What the other reviewers are actually raving about is that next to the site entrance (not very clearly marked which is which!) is a public car park (with a much nicer and more modern toilet block!) and which belongs to East Lothian Council. Next to this car park are beautiful woodlands. Set in the woods is a huge, fantastic children's play area and the woods lead out to the John Muir walk way which is a country walk parallel to the coast. And of course there is the coast itself, with a lovely sandy beach and many interesting rockpools when the tide is out. Even though it wasn't that warm and sunny and we had a bit of drizzly rain, my 5 year old son happily spent hours on the beach.

The site is also near East Links farm park and there's a swimming pool at nearby Gullane.

The other caravanners were friendly towards children and dogs, which was good. The children played around the site but all was quiet by about half past 9 at night, making for a peaceful sleep.

I think this site would be far too busy for me at peak times though - I went this weekend (mid May weekend) and it was quite busy even then.

I would definitely return to the area again, but perhaps to a different site next time.

We love this area. Yellowcraig bay with it's soft sand and the views to Fidra Island is stunningly beautiful and, as others have said, ideal for children and dogs. The site is as we have come to expect from the Caravan Club and the wardens helpful and friendly (although I truly still don't understand the logic behind not allowing a members' restaurant/cafe recommendation book). If you love nature and, even more, if you love golf, you are going to love this region. If the land isn't built on or being farmed then someone is playing golf on it!

Dirleton castle is definitely worth a visit.

North Berwick is a lovely, friendly town with a great beach. Drive from Dirleton in the other direction and you will find Gullane (we recommend Ramseys butchers)home of Muirfield Golf Club. In fact the whole coastal route is delightful.

If you want a good quality lunch then we recommend Merryhatton garden centre which you will find on the way to the Museum of Flight.

We will definitely visit again.

We stayed here July into August 2012, site was full and when we arrived on the Friday we did a full tour of the site to find a pitch. We were told to park central to the peg which we did, the van next to us was not central and at an angle, meaning their car was next to our van.

The site was full of families with lots of children, most of which had bikes or scooters, which some rode at speed and with no regard for others. Our son who is 5 was almost knocked over and I had to step aside on more than one occasion to avoid being hit, when driving through the site extra care was needed even at low speed.

We also had children playing ball games infront of the van, there is a park which our son used, but it seemed to be dominated by the older children.

The showers and toilets are clean and tidy, as normal for club sites and the site in general is well kept, staff are friendly but seemed very lax about rules.

The site is close to the beach which has good views and the sea is never far out, we took our kayak and went over to Fidra, the island is a bird sanctuary and houses the lighthouse, A short walk from the site is the village of Dirleton, (exit site turn left across car park and then left again onto the John Muir way) the ruined castle is well worth a visit, as is the small tea room in the village.

Edinburgh and Leith are not far to visit the castle or the Royal Yacht and a short drive in the other direction near Dunbar is East links family park, a great day our for young families.

North Berwick itself is a lovely little town and home to the Scotish seabird centre, you can also do boat trips to Fidra and Bass rock. All in all the location is great and there is plenty to do in the area. If you want a quiet site, then maybe it is best out of school holidays.

I liked the site, but it felt more like a commercial site than a club site, if this is the way the club is going I am not sure we will be renewing our membership next year.

Just spent another weekend at this lovely site. Absolutely no negatives, a credit to the wardens. Toilets immaculate as was park.

The set up of pitches is ideal, although a busy site, each bay only took about 6 caravans, so felt quite quiet.

Ideal location for dogs and children as the beach was only a 5 minute walk.

There is also a good playpark located in the forest en route to the beach, with a small playpark on site.

The reception stocked milk and rolls and you could order your paper every day.

Would recommend this site to anyone and we are going back next month.

Excellent site, pitches well laid out in small groups, water and waste adjacent to each. Very peaceful location well away from any traffic or noise. Spotless shower/toilet block we did not find any problems cleaned daily. Grounds well managed bins emptied daily. Stayed three nights wardens were very helpful. Dogs loved dog exercise area and the site is so close to the beach and the John Muir way(walk). Castle well worth a visit dogs accepted on leads. Would definitely return if in the area and recommend to others.

This is a gem of a site which we have visited several times for long weekends. The site is set out in small cul-de-sacs surrounded with shrubbery for hardstanding pitches and a central grassed area. The toilet blocks are spotlessly clean and there is a very secure children's playpark at the back of the site. The site is very close to the beach which is within walking distance in about 5mins, which was brilliant for our dog. Direlton village is a short drive, where you will find a small shop/post office and a couple of pubs where you can get a good meal. North Berwick is close by, where you can catch frequent trains into Edinburgh. Mobile phone signals are poor from this site, so if you want total peace and quiet to get away from it all, this is the site to visit.

Busy site when we visited with caravans and camper vans on just about every available pitch. Some of these seemed to have little regard to how they positioned on the pitch and at least two camper vans were positioned directly in front of neighbouring caravans. Although we were told that some pitches with black bin liners covering the peg were not to be used on the Wednesday, little regard was paid to this the following day when more vans arrived. The bay we were in would benefit from having hard standing to ensure that vans don't pitch with total disregard to others.

Although there are some small bays the two largest areas lack interest just being fields and would benefit from planting to break up the large areas.

On the plus side the facilities are good with the largest shower cubicles we have seen. The site could use a second toilet and shower block as there is a long walk from some pitches to it.

The site was too busy for our liking and wondered if the close proximity to Edinburgh make it a popular choice for weekenders escaping the city

As others have said, this is a lovely clean, friendly site. The facilities are spotless, modern and plentiful. There is pot-washing (no wiping-round cloth - take you own) and laundry facilities.

Some of the grass pitches can be a bit bumpy and difficult to get level, so make sure you have ramps with you. The dog walk is great with a poo bin at the gate. The reception is also a very small shop and there is a good information hut.

It is a five minute walk to the fabulous beach, totally dog-friendly and, when we were there, almost deserted. We walked along the beach to North Berwick and came back on the John Muir Way.

The coastline is some of the most scenic we have seen with lots of lovely islands and the Fife coast in the distance.

Going the other way from the site, the John Muir Way takes you to Dirleton, about a mile away, where The Castle Inn does good quality food all day and allows dogs in.

Dirleton castle itself is well worth a visit, fabulous gardens, very interesting castle and they also allow dogs in! A bit further on from Dirleton is Gullane, a pretty, golf-obsessed town, which has the most gorgeous German cake shop. Forget the golf, go for the cake!

Booked 2 nights but stayed for 6! Its a lovely clean and friendly site.

We were there during the bad storm and were quite sheltered from the wind as the pitches are in little glades surrounded by hedges. The wardens are very friendly and helpful.

There is also a very full information room. The big sandy beach is a short walk away and the large dog walk is next to the site. The showers were larger than normal with hooks and a bench.

There are even hairdryers in each washing cubicle - very handy as they are a bit more private. The surrounding area is lovely and clean and North Berwick is well worth a visit.

There is a little shop and post office nearby. We would definitely visit again.
