This site is very very well kept everything is spotless. There is a good dog walking field and the surrounding area is stunning with beautiful beaches and the most beautiful church at St. Just-in-Roseland. However we found the on site shop lacking somewhat, you had to order bread the day before (none kept on shelves) and very little else available to buy and if you want a site where you can keep yourself to yourself then this ones for you as we didn't find the people here very friendly. So we will not be going back which is a shame. Also if you have a dog like ours that is frightened of loud noises then be warned, when we were there there was a bird scarer going off from 6.30am till 8.30pm so came home with one very stressed dog!

Our first visit to Trethem Milll and hopefully not our last. This site is excellent in every way. Our pitch was large and immaculately maintained. The new shower rooms were spotlessly clean. Did some lovely walks from the campsite to St Just in Roseland, Portscathough and St Mawes along the creek. Some stunning scenery along the way. We even got close to a buzzard. The site was peaceful except for the children playing in the play area.

Trethem Mill is the site that has raised our expectations and quite possibly ruined every other campsite that we will visit!

It helped that we had the warmest 2 weeks of the year, real camping weather, but that just seemed to highlight the perfection of this campsite! As relatively new to this caravanning lark (with our own caravan at any rate) we were slightly worried about siting our van on the sloping grass. We needn't have worried as the site staff offered to site us and did so in about 2 minutes! The whole place was immaculately looked after, the facilities were modern and spotless (a little light radio also plays at low volume at all times which is really nice). There is also a baby bathroom with a built in baby bath at waist height (so there was no backache involved!) and my son loved it! We ordered papers and croissants for the mornings from reception and waited with baited breath for the chip van to arrive (yum!).

There was a playground and a play field to wear the kids out away from the caravans. We went in July and we didn't experience any noise from the playground or anywhere else for that matter.

The drive up to campsite along a tiny little lane was hair raising (particularly for newbies like us) but we survived and it's probably no big deal for most caravanners. The only thing I can think of that I would change is to have a shower caddy in the showers as there was nowhere to put my shampoo. !

St. Mawes is the nearest shopping area and it really is a beautiful village. Plenty of very nice restaurants and pubs and some lovely little boutiquey shops. You can also catch the boat to Falmouth here which we did a few times.

Altogether, Trethem Mill was a tranquil haven and I can't wait to visit again. Any other site that we visit will be measured against this one, for sure.

We have just returned from 2 wks at Trethem Mill and it really is deservedly 5 star ! Spotlessly clean, we loved the 3 new wetrooms which should really be family rooms as I couldn't understand it when I saw blokes coming out with a newspaper under their arm and no towel ?! why can't they use the block?! inconsiderate. Anyways, we had a great spacious pitch at the top of the site away from the playpark. The dogwalk meadow was lovely. The lane approach was very very narrow but very quiet so it wasn't a problem when we arrived or left with the caravan. But there are a lot of lanes in Cornwall! The chip van was fab. Used it every sat and wed whilst there and spent almost £100 ! best fish n chips ever ! We went out every day travelling about. Used the King Harry Ferry 3x which costs £8 rtn Loved Falmouth and Mevagissy. Lovely walk at St Antonys Head. Nice quiet beaches at Towan and Pendower. Great rock pools. Not much at St Mawes (should be called St Less!) we had to shop at big stores at Truro (aldi or sains) and Falmouth (asda, sains) got ripped off at Ralph's in Portscathough only bought a few bits and it cost £17 ! It really is a pretty area and much less touristy than St Ives where we went one day which was horrible as there were about a million people there crammed into the tiny streets, couldn't wait to leave and get back to the tranquillity of the Roseland !

This was only our second campsite visited as we are new to camping and we had found the first to be very good but Trethem Mill was even better. The directions made the site easy to find, we received a friendly welcome and were offered a choice of 2 pitches both of which were very spacious.

Our first visit to the toilet block found it to be spotless even though it was half way through the afternoon.

We stayed for 15 nights and found the site to meet all our needs. The dog walking area was a bonus for our border terrier who made lots of new friends.

The information given for the area and Cornwall was invaluable as were the very efficient washing machines and the ice pack freezing facilities.

A very slight negative (and only very slight) is that the grass pitches are on a bit of a hill and we pitched on a slight slope meaning our inflatable was at an angle but that might very well have been a pitching error as we are new to this.

All in all a brilliant site. Thank you Trethem Mill, you are going to be a hard act to follow so I expect we'll be back.

We spent the middle two weeks of June at this site and enjoyed our stay.

We totally agree with everything said previously about the site.

The downside for us was that it is in an area which if you're a biker or a walker you'll be in heaven. For us being neither of these left access to many places out of reach.

The narrow lane up to the site is precarious and a strategically placed pair of mirrors at the entrance would not go amiss. Twice we nearly had the front of our car taken off by a recklessly driven van.

It's in an area where there's only one road in and one road out and that gets very tedious after a while. The alternative is the very expensive King Harry ferry - £5. 00 one way or £8. 00 return. It does save a good number of miles and a certain amount of time but the cost doesn't equate with the amount of diesel you use.

All in all a great site but not over enamoured with the area. Won't go back.

This review is a bit late but.

We usually stick with C. C. Sites but reviews of this site made it worth a try and we were certainly not disappointed.

Firstly may I deal with some of the odd negative reviews below. We rate very highly the reviews section of this site and think the reviews are very valuable. We use it on every trip away. It seems strange that some people find fault with thing that are obvious if you look before you leap. These things are nothing to do with the site or the owners.

Yes, the approach road is narrow, but they tell you this on the website before you book!

Yes, there may only be one road in and out but you can see this on the map before you book!

Yes, King Harry ferry is eight quid, good value when you think of fuel and time saved!

Yes, it may be a bit isolated but it's Cornwall. Isolation is what Cornwall does best, including where we live. That's why people come here. !

Not much at St. Mawes? Really can't understand this one.

So, this site is first class and deserves the awards.

The toilet/shower blocks are superb. There is also three wet rooms with lavatory, shower and handbasin all in one place. These are excellent.

At busy times you may be allocated a pitch before you arrive but it was quite quiet and we were allowed a choice of several. We went to the top of the site which gives a fair view. Pitch sizes were fine.

One of the things we particularly liked was the way the site is not uniformed rows or loops. There are lots of hedges partitioning off a few vans here and a few there.

There is a good shop and the site owners and staff are very helpful and friendly.

There are a thousand and one things to do in the area.

One of the delights is the river and the trips. Across King Harry to Trelissick Gardens, up the river to Malpas where you can have a walk and get the boat back. Across to Falmouth and back later.

You can walk to St Just from the site then on to St Mawes and get a bus back to the site which is nice.

Also a walk to Portscathough and bus back is good.

There used to be an excellent restaurant at Smugglers Cottage at Tolverne but this was closed on this visit. If it reopens it's well worth a visit.

Pendennis Castle at Falmouth is great and not to be missed.

St Mawes is the local town and we spent quite a bit of time there usually ending up there at the end of the day.

It's a lovely little harbour, peaceful with a few walks round about. A beautiful place to be on a nice day. Great if you are a photographer but also particularly good it you just want to sit and look.

All in all this is a great site. We will certainly be going back. You can even hear the sea lions at night.

Positives: Well kept site with excellent facilities ie showers toilets etc. Very dog friendly important to us.

Negatives: Isolated location, nearest pub 2 to 3 miles. Nearest shop 4 miles with a limited choice. There are two distinct areas for pitches. The upper near facilities and with good views. The lower which we were on and a super pitch most expensive !, no views and some pitches quite close.

Summary:

We had a great week weather great, fab beaches within 2 to 3 miles and coastal path. The isolation for us was an issue and if bad weather then this would have been a big issue. Finally access road to the site very narrow.

We spent our second week of our holiday here, it's such a long drive that it seemed silly to just stay at one site for the full two weeks.

This was our first holiday in our motorhome, two adults and two dogs. Peter and I are now in competition 'who chooses the best sites!

Week one at Atlantic coast in Hayle 4* (Peter's choice) great for the dogs lovely clean facilities.

Arriving at Trethem Mill Peter admitted that this site was superb (point to me) 5* and definitely worthy of them. The facilities are fantastic, the pitches are private and a good size, dog walking field on site, and some beautiful walks to be had direct from the site, some on the lead due to electric fences surrounding fields, and occasional country lanes. The site is family owned and run, excellent information available at reception, free information and directions for walks from the site.

The facilities are of the highest standard and immaculate, as are the grounds.

The bread order is taken the day before delivery, the best bread ever!Fresh fish van visits the site, as does the fish and chips van. Very good but we had better in St Ives.

Highly recommend this site, beautiful surroundings. The lanes around and about are very narrow, care needs to be taken especially in a Motorhome or towing a large caravan.

Excellent site for couples, and great for dog owners who like to walk.

We've just returned from an amazing week at this campsite and surrounding area. It was a long drive down due to the A30 being closed after an overturned caravan during which we were making plans not to travel this far again.

However, once we'd arrived at the site we were planning our return and by the end of the following day planning our relocation to the area! Its a gorgeous site in a stunning area of Cornwall where the sea, rivers and creeks are your playground.

I have very little to add about the campsite itself that has not already been said. Its well kept and the pitches are large and secluded. I heard more than one person say that pitches were of French campsite standard but bigger.

The facilities are spotless (which is important when in a tent). There are four showers in the ladies, 3 unisex/disabled/family shower rooms (ideal when you are camping with a three year old like we were) plus a dedicated disabled shower room (access for disabled campers seemed very good) and a baby bath/changing room for campers aged 0-4.

Our little girl loved the deep baby bath and sea themed decorations on the wall. Its quite a slippery bath but we managed OK without a mat. The only improvement I could think of was a full length mirror in the ladies' toilets and another hand dryer.

I was a bit worried about the 'rules' around ball games, bikes and scooters but within a few days I really appreciated the atmosphere this created - peaceful, calm and secluded. I was even a bit miffed when we returned to the tent after a day out to find new neighbours playing cricket into our pitch (which normally wouldn't bother me and is what I would have expected from camping!). I think the rules help give families privacy but they can also hinder the natural socialising that usually comes with camping.

The children's playground is well maintained and there is a large rec area but our little girl missed having swings, and after much nagging from her we managed to find some in a park at the top of the car park in St Mawes (good for younger and older children with an adventure trail and zip wire as well as baby swings and slides). Another lovely park can be found in Veryan near the church.

In terms of provisions we managed to get by with the Co-op in St Mawes (and the campsite shop for emergencies and icecreams). St Mawes also has a lovely butchers. Fresh fish can be bought from the mobile fish van at the campsite on certain days. The bigger supermarkets are accessible by car but quite a trek. We saw Tesco and Sainsburys delivering to the site though which would be an easier and cheaper option if you have a smartphone/iphone to do the order (or order at home for delivery whilst there).

We were really lucky with the weather, the jet stream finally moving a couple of days before we camped giving us 7 whole days of full sunshine and no rain - Hooray! I think this probably impacted upon our holiday experience but the site would be just as lovely in more inclement weather (no dry room though).

I had packed for autumn weather with a few emergency summer clothes so we made good use of the washing machines on site (£4 for a 30 minute wash which supplied detergent and softener so you don't need to take your own). As it was sunny we didn't use the dryers but they looked like normal launderette standard and took 20p coins.

In terms of activities, the campsite provided us with a free guide book of the River Fal and surrounding area and it became our bible. We took a boat trip from St Mawes into Falmouth (tickets approx £6 each (under 3s free) purchased from campsite shop at reduced rate). It took about 20 mins and the water was so still.

Falmouth is a large town good for eating and shopping. We stumbled upon the Courtyard Deli, (up an alley from the main shops near WHSmiths) and were really impressed with food - delicious ham and piccalilli sandwich with a beet and lentil salad for £7 - really wholesome. As with any deli they stock cheeses, tapas style dishes and jars of chutneys etc (good for gifts).

On the boat back to St Mawes we had a detour to see some seals on the Black Rock - what a treat! On a separate day we took the smaller Place ferry to St Andrews to see the lighthouse (about £6 each).

Our little girl couldn't manage the walk from pier to lighthouse so we stopped at the entrance to a secluded beach, just after the church, and ate our pasties which we bought from the cafe at St Mawes - yum yum.

We could see fish in the shallow water. Our own private beach for lunch - idyllic! The headland is ideal for dog walking - pack sensible shoes rather than flip flops though as the pier can get wet and slippery.

The churchyard at St Just is a short drive or a 30 minute walk from the campsite and is well worth visiting during an evening, as the sun goes down. Its the most beautiful churchyard I have ever visited. The hubby and I joked about getting divorced so we could get married again there. There is the most wonderful atmosphere - its hard to describe in words but 'serene' and 'paradise' come to mind. You can sometimes just about hear the church bells at the campsite - really lovely.

We usually go for a bike ride on holiday as its a good way to explore the surrounding area. We decided not on this occasion as it was so hot. The roads around the campsite are a but hilly but there looked to be some nice bike rides (and hire centres) on the other side of the river (accessed by taking the King Harry car ferry).

To be honest exploration in this area would be better by boat and you can hire a family boat for about £50 for half day - no experience needed! Then you can travel up the Fal River and the little creeks that run off it.

There are some pubs which you can access by boat such as the Smugglers Inn, Tolverne (near King Harry Ferry). A lovely spot for lunch and also accessible by car if the boat is not your thing. The family next to us had their own kayaks and RIB and we heard them talking one evening about the basking shark they saw that day.

There are an abundance of great beaches to choose from. Porthcurnick has a nice mixture of sand and rock pools and also has the Hidden Hut cafe - lovely food! Park for free on road near the Rosevine (a baby bolt hole which has a pool and play area which non residents can also use) rather than at car park at top of cliff (bit of a walk down to beach from here and £2. 50 for parking).

Head to the Plume of Feathers in nearby Portscatho in the evening for an evening drink in the sinking sun. A lovely atmosphere with customers spilling out onto the street.

Our favourite beach was Carne beach (free parking and easy access). Lots of lovely sheltered rocky inlets as you head left up the beach. Little tunnels in the rocks. Our little girl loved looking for bears in 'caves'. Brilliant rock pooling at mid and low tide.

There is a fish and chip van which comes to the campsites on Saturday and Wednesday evenings. I wish we had used this van rather than the Watch House in St Mawes. We queued for 50 mins but I didn't think they were worth the wait and it was the only thing I was disappointed about during our weeks holiday. You may have a better experience but my advice would be to stay away!

In terms of family pubs, we didn't get the chance to visit the Kings Head but it looks great from the website. We ate at the Royal Standard in Gerran. It didn't look very promising from the front but the beer garden was lovely, enclosed and safe with some toys for children to use. Service was quick and the food was gorgeous. They don't do a separate children's menu but all the adults meals can be ordered in child size portions (old faves like fish pie, Sausage, mash and gravy, Spag Bol, as well as, more adventurous dishes like mussels in garlic sauce and other specials). Inside it was cosy and quirky. I can imagine it being lovely in winter as well as summer. I thoroughly recommend!

If you're not as lucky with the weather there's a website called '101 things to do in Cornwall when it rains' and there is an information room at the campsite with every possible leaflet for places to visit in the local area.

A lovely week full of great memories. Its the first time I have returned form a week in a tent without bags under my eyes. I feel completely rejuvenated and rested. A big thank you to the very helpful and hard working family who run Trethem Mill.
