We have just got back from drayton manor, only camped there for the night, but that was only because it was freezing, we had planned to stop for 2 nights. When we first arrived we were expecting to be told if there was any places, but the security just pointed us down to the camp site, luckily there was only a few tents up so we found a space and put the tent up.
It is a lovely little forest that you camp in, the toilets were clean, but that may have been because there was only a few campers, the shower was cold at first then warmed up, bit of a pain because its one of them showers where you have to keep pressing the button or it keeps going off after 5 seconds, but it was clean and done the job.
I would def go camping there again if am going to the park, the only thing I was a bit disappointed was there was no entertainment on the night, we took our 3 year ol son with us, and the on site pub would not allow kids in under 14 years of age and it was too cold to sit outside the pub, if we go next year we are planning on going with a group so we can dit and have bbq and the kids can run about, a bit bored the 3 of us sat in the tent in the rain from half 6 ha ha.
Drayton manor is a good theme park, plenty to do, plenty of places to eat and loads of toilets. My son loved thomas land, a definite must for little boys or girls. Cant wait to go back next year.

Another year another visit !
Toilets were as clean as could be expected due to the rain and mud.
Site was busy bit not noisy (except for babies screaming early in the morning ! )
There were a few oddites this year ie a family hammering tent pegs into a tree to hang all there chilled food on which was an awful eyesore.Security did remove it after a few days.
When you go to drayton manor you can pitch your tent anywhere which includes 2 feet away from any other unit (grrrr)
The campsite is due to become a hotel in the next couple of years but the good news is that you will still be able to camp just further down the hill and there is talk of ehu which will be fantastic.
Would recommend this site as its cheap and fairly central to lots of other attractions including twycross zoo, conkers and the national.
Customer service were great my camping tickets turned to mush and new ones were issued without any problems.
Roll on next year !

As Drayton Manor is only 20 miles from home we decided it was a great place for my son and I to try out our first solo camp together without OH in our Vango Tamor. At £11 p/n per unit (weeknights, £13 at weekends) and discounted entry to the theme park this was too good a bargain to resist. When we arrived the staff on the gate were helpful and helped us check in (you can't book in advance) We were then pointed in the direction of the campsite and told to pitch where we liked. There's no EHU facility on this site. We had a drive round and there was plenty of space but opted to camp near the toilet block. The pitches aren't marked out and it's just a case of setting up wherever you liked. No constraints for monster tents either which I thought was good. The campsite was slightly sloping in places but there were plenty of flat areas amongst the trees so finding somewhere fairly level wasn't a problem. Even though the theme park gates were only a few hundred yards away the campsite felt safe and secure. The main theme park gates were further afield so the majority of traffic just passed you by. As has been said on previous reviews the toilet blocks were basic but were cleaned regularly whilst we were there by a very friendly chap. The biggest problem was parents allowing small children to go to the toilet on their own. After several toddlers had used the first cubicle without flushing and used half a loo roll each this toilet permanently seemed to be blocked until the cleaner came along and unblocked it again. As I say, this wasn't Drayton Manor's fault but the campers themselves. What was Drayton Manor's fault was the fact that the wash hand basins had no plugs and the showers were a logistical nightmare. As the shower cubicles were approx 3 foot square and had nowhere to hang your clothes other than over the door, they invariably got wet. There were hooks however directly outside the showers but how does that help? A number of the locks didn't work either which needs to be addressed by the management. The unisex disabled washroom did have one hook on the back of the door but even that looked like it was about to hit the deck if you put anything too heavy on it! The pot washing facilities were well lit and indoors although no plugs there either. The elsan point was less than pleasant but hey, it's where you dispose of your toilet waste so is never likely to be!
Park security was never an issue and as I was flying solo with my young son I never felt unsafe. Other campers had mentioned noise issues at night but we didn't experience any problems other than the odd screaming child and very patient parents trying to hush them. The site policy of families only was certainly adhered to in my opinion and made for a happy setting.
During the theme park opening hours you have everything you need as far as entertainment is concerned and you're free to go back and forth to your tent as often as you like when your hand was stamped. However, once the park closed for the day, there was nothing there. As the top end of the park has conference / function facilities it would be easy to offer some kind of takeaway / shop / pub facilities as these are already there but unfortunately these closed when the park did. Fazeley, just up the road has a Tesco express and a Jet petrol station for all essentials however and further afield at Ventura Park there are several supermarkets as well as a M&S, Blacks camping store for things you may have forgotten and Argos amongst others.
Just a word of warning for disabled visitors if you wish to hire a wheelchair or mobility scooter as I did then you must purchase your tickets from the entrance gates near the campsite and then drive to the main gates for the scooter rental. No ID is required but a £10 charge for scooters with a £30 deposit (£5 for wheelchairs with a £10 deposit) All deposits paid in cash only so make sure you have plenty on you otherwise you'll have to walk round the park to the nearest cash machine. You also need to pay for scooter/wheelchair hire at the ticket kiosks too but the deposit is paid to the attendant.
All in all I think this is a fab little site with the bonus of having a theme park on it's doorstep. Just a few minor niggles but it's sheer value for money makes this site one I'd definitely return to.

Location Fantastic. Our little one loved sleeping so close to Thomas World.
Site ok. They say that there are 75 pitches available, but as none are marked out, and it's a bit of a free-for-all I'm not sure how they know if there are any spaces left?
The grass is quite good, close cut and even. Facilities were ok when we arrived at 6pm on a Friday evening, but deteriorated over the weekend. The showers ended up with mud all over the floor, and why would anyone just leave loads and loads of toilet paper all over the floor?
Friday evening was quite pleasant, we cheated and had a take-away from a Chinese in the nearby town (15 min walk) to eat outside our tent. The atmosphere was really good with loads of kids running around enjoying themselves. This changed on Saturday however, with a few large family groups arriving throughout the day. They were drinking quite heavily and there were a few little arguments between different people. This went on until about 2.30am (their kids were still up at this time) I know we were not the only ones there who were disturbed by this.
I think if you go there for the theme park, and accept that the facilities are 'basic' then you should be ok. As long as you go on a different day to the idiots!
Oh, by the way. Thomas Land is fantastic!

Just returned from Drayton and had 3 excellent days, but chilly nights. Campsite is basic but clean including showers and toilets although it wasn't very busy. Rules for site make it sound ideal for young families but as said before no one enforces any of them. Suffered from loud teenagers, foul mouthed adults and generators that did not get turned off at 11pm. Luckily most of the problems left after the first night. Thomas land was a massive hit with our 3 year old and the adults enjoyed the bike museum so we will go back soon.

After reading the previous reviews, I feel we visited at the right time of year. It was very quiet during the October half term and the toilets and showers were clean, although the gents showers were too cold and the ladies too hot.
The site is sloping, so although there were only half a dozen or so units camping at the time, we were mostly all pitched together at the top of the site as it was a bit waterlogged down at the bottom end. It took us a while to find a flat, dry pitch which was not under trees, but once we found one, we were very comfortable.
The theme park is excellent, which of course is the reason to stay at this campsite, but do take your own food as the takeaway and cafe prices are extortionate as is usual for these places.

On arrival paid at the gate for 2 nights then went in search of a place to pitch. Drove round the site to discover no pitches available we pulled on the rally field only to be told to leave by security as they had to apply to the council for permission to camp there. After much debate with security he let us stay at the bottom of the site parked across the road, this was quite a squeeze considering there were 4 vans in our party. When we were set up we felt quite at ease after having such a bad start. The toilets were ok on the Friday but disgusting on Sunday they hadn't been cleaned at all during our stay but one can only feel most of the mess was by total abuse of the facilities by fellow campers. The site is cheap with discounts into the park of 7 pound a person. I don't think I shall stay here again because you cannot book your pitch and basically if you cant get on, the only alternative they offer is for you to leave which at 5.30pm on a Friday with kids looking forward, it just aint on.

Dirty toilets, showers. Latter fluctuated between cold and boiling - a danger to anyone especially children as there was no warning and the water was absolutely scalding.
The campsite was cheap and also allowed you to gain reduced price admission to theme park, however I would never stay there again. The only facilities were the toilets, shower and washing up room. All were swimming with mud the whole time we were there and the very minimal clean that they were given on the second day was hardly noticeable.

This site is fab. As said before you get to pitch your tent where you want all for £11 a night which for 6 of us was a fab price. We stayed for 3 night during the school hols but there was still plenty of room at the site
Security there are fantastic they have cctv. Late on the wednesday night a group turned up and were unable to get there tent up next thing we knew security had arrived with a tent that they could borrow , parked to give light and assisted them pitching the tent .
Toilets , laundry and the site in general was clean and tidy
The only thing that could get better is the skips being emptied more often as they were overflowing

Stayed here for two nights - 2 adults/2children.
Advantages: 2 minutes walk across a road from the theme park. Cheap - £12 a night. Reduced entry into park if you camp here.
Disadvantages: Although site had rules they weren't enforced. Dogs ran around tents instead of being tied up. Noise of groups, radios etc blared out into the wee small hours. Litter from other campers was left lying around site. Other reviews stated there were security patrols but we didn't see a single one the whole of our stay. The showers and toilets were muddy and filthy. Water in showers changed from cold to boiling hot every few seconds and at one point our toddler screamed in pain. There had been a shop but it was boarded up and in disrepair. The pot washing area was disgusting, full of bits of leftover food and swimming in dirty water.
There are shops and takeaways nearby in Fazeley and asda and sainsburys a bit further on. We wanted to escape the site so followed the signs for Tamworth castle where we stumbled upon a lovely park with crazy golf and a huge castle themed adventure playground which our kids loved.
We would visit Drayton Manor again as Thomasland was great but will be staying in one of the nearby campsites next time as opposed to this one. There is a hotel due to be built right next to the site in 2009 and it was our opinion that the campsite might have been being 'wound down' to make way for this, but we might be wrong!
