We visited Mena two years ago and this summer (2013) we returned because we had a wonderful holiday then. A café had been added to the headquarters and to us it seemed a good improvement. We tried several breakfasts and teas and the food was very tasty and worth its money.
Three showers might seem a bit few, but we never had to wait in order to find one available. When something didn't work properly, the staff undertook the necessary steps to mend things. The toilet blocks were clean and the shop sold most basic stuff you run out of every now and then. Plenty of supermarkets around by the way: Spar (Lanivet), Morrison's, Aldi and Asda's (Bodmin). Why would you want to visit Mena for a longer stay? (we stayed three weeks) First, the children can run around to their heart's content. Kiting, sports, name it, there is loads of space.
Second, the friendly staff. For us, they were a major reason to revisit the campsite. The wardens and campsite owners are a close team. They also tried to get people together in the evenings with a game of rounders every now and then. Third, the campsite location on the map. Indeed almost the whole of Cornwall can be visited from this site. Fourth, this is a quiet site, compared to the ones we saw near the coast. If you want to unwind, this is the right place.

Well, this is our third visit to Mena, and have to agree with the other comments in the review. The site is situated in the centre of Cornwall, which enbales easy reach to most attractions and beaches. The owners and staff are very welcoming and friendly, and eager to help where necessary. The small cafe on site is an added bones and the cooked breakfasts are brilliant, as are the cream teas in the afternoon and the fast food in the evening. We joined in the rounders too in the evening and throughly enjoyed it. Would thoroughly recommend this site for a holiday or short break. Stunning views over the campsite, and plenty of space around the pitches.

Well were to start, we've just come back from Mena after two weeks of bliss, the owners Ian and Kirsty were very nice people like the rest of the staff, very helpful and nothing was too much trouble, it was our first time not only at Mena but in cornwall too and we left with some new friends and will be visiting them every year from now on.
The location of the site couldn't be better, close to everything you might need. Like others have mentioned there's plenty of shops close by and just a few minutes away is the welcome stranger fish and chip shop whom do excellent fish and chips.
The camp site itself is well laid out, and the games of rounders were very amusing, we took part when on site and found them good fun. They have a games barn for the kids with a pool table, table tennis and a tv and seating area for the adults. The cafe is excellent and very well priced and we used it a lot and can recommend the breakfast's.
Top marks to the owners and staff for making us feel so welcome and more like friends than paying customers and we are looking forward to next years holiday there.
Regards Mark Kelsall

Having camped many times in Cornwall, there is always an element of trepidation when choosing a site we haven't visited before. However, we shouldn't have worried, from the moment we arrived, the staff at Mena made us feel so welcome and comfortable it was a wonderful way to start our holiday.
The site is clean, spacious and, when we visited, very tranquil. All pitches seemed to be huge, we had enough space for our car on either side of our tent. The site has large green areas with swings and a slide for kids and an area where the owners organise and join in with games of rounders in the evenings. There are two extra fields for walking dogs that lead down to the fishing lake. As you walk down to the lake you pass 'Del Boy' and 'Rodney' the two pigs and a brood of chickens, which you can buy chicken feed for in the site shop.
The shop has every essential you may need plus extras that you hadn't first considered. Next to the shop and reception is a small cafe, serving wonderful breakfasts, cream teas and dinners. Whilst we were there the cafe received the 5/5 rating for cleanliness and hygiene from the council. Very much deserved in our opinion. The site also received the 4 flag rating from the AA which reinforces how good this site is, all areas were kept very clean and tidy throughout our stay.
Mena's position, about 10/15 minutes from Bodmin and less than 5 minutes to the A30, makes it an ideal spot to explore all that Mid Cornwall has to offer. Drive 20/25 minutes north or south for the coastal delights of Padstow (N) or Fowey (S) and their surrounding beaches and villages. In the nearest village of Lanivet, there is a Spar mini-supermarket, a pub and a Fish and Chip take away and restaurant, an excellent bonus as they offered gluten free options as well as the normal fare.
All in all, Mena is the perfect site for exploring the coastal areas of Cornwall, walking the rugged Bodmin Moor or just relaxing by the tent on a quiet afternoon. The staff, facilities and space make Mena a site we will be returning to.

Third time staying here. Good facilities, plenty of space to enjoy on site. Difficult to find fault if you like being in the countryside. Memsahb is in a wheelchair but this presents no problems when staying at this site. A lovely site even when its raining. Staff and owners are very friendly and helpful. Location is close to A30 and Lanivet which has a good pub, fish and chip shop and local food store. We find it ideally central for exploring Cornwall.

Decent sized pitches, nicely spaced out. We fitted our small caravan, 'pup' tent (for teenage children) and car on pitch, with space to spare. Friendly staff. Site dog friendly - with large fields to run in, next door to site and owned by them. Two pigs and chickens in pens in field. Play area for children.
Two shower/toilet blocks. We only used the main block which had two showers, two washing up sinks - with one drying area, one laundry sink, washing machine and two toilets.
Good for Eden Project, with dog kennel en route, and easy access to both north and south coasts for beaches, exploring, etc.
Narrow lanes leading up to campsite, fine for us but AA route planner, and I believe SAT navs, take you on a route which would be difficult for larger units. Best to get there via Lanivet and follow signs.

Just returned for this gem of a campsite. All staff friendly, great facilities, a little café if you don't fancy cooking and well stocked shop. Toilet and showers clean and tidy. Play area great, its in middle of site so you can sit and have a cuppa while watching the kids play! Plenty to do in the area, local shops and places to eat out. Owners organize a fun rounders match (you don't have to be any good at it I'm not, but the whole family had great fun), if you want to join in, or you are left alone if it's not your thing. We will be returning!

Well we have been back from Mena now for a few days and have had time to look back on the holiday objectively, this is the review based on that reflection.
Firstly I have to say that the weather was gorgeous if a little too hot, but we still had the most relaxed and laid back holiday we have had in years.
The owners and staff could not do enough for us and were exceedingly friendly and helpful throughout.
The site is quiet, and convenient to get too being close to the A30 and A38. It also benefits from being close to Bodmin and the Sainsburys supermarket and Lidls, not to mention the small village shops even nearer, which are very competitive when you weigh the cost of petrol to go further. The small shop on the park is stocked with the basics and a few items you might not expect, the local bacon, sausage and eggs are superb, as is the home cooked food available at the small cafe, we had a couple of excellent breakfasts there and didn't need to eat again till evening.
I particularly like the way they charge you one price for the pitch with electric and then showers etc are free, including the ice pack freezer for anyone who needs it. All sites should have a single price and no hidden extras that you find out about when you get there.
The toilets were always spotless and appeared to be cleaned at least twice a day, a major bonus in my book.
The dog walking area is close by and the play area with slides, swings, basketball ring and goal are right by the pitches so the kids can play in safety.
The lake is not huge but I had a lot of fun fishing it, and had some good fish for the size of the water.
If you want peace and quiet and the warmest of welcomes, look no further than MENA, the bonus is that it is slap bang in the middle of the peninsular and ideal for touring in all directions to Cornwall and Devon.
I will deeply regret this review if I can't get a pitch in the future, but they deserve all I have said. TOP MARKS GUYS AND GALS

We do not normally write reviews but after staying at Mena Camp site we just had to put pen to paper as they used to say.
We had such a great time on this site, my children loved the week and we will be returning, they had so much to do. Fresh air and all a parent would want, a child to have. The dogs had a great time too.
We did not know at the time of booking, that they have just opened a breakfast bar/cafe, this was fantastic as every morning we could just wake up and go and have breakfast cooked for us, how easy was this for us.
They serve all day and good food. This is a friendly site, a family run business who are all very nice including the old guy who cuts the grass, he looks like green grass from heartbeat LOL.
We can only say this site is a must if you want clean fresh air and quite times or if you have a family then its a must, we forgot to say the kids loved the fishing in there pond.
