Site ideally situated for exploring the Brecon Beacons. Greeted by very friendly owners and shown to a pitch with hardstanding. Small shop selling basics in reception and reasonably priced. Shower and toilets basic but clean.
Local facilities in Cwmdu village (about 1/4 mile from camp) include a good pub but no dogs allowed. Across the road from the pub is a great cafe selling breakfasts and lunches during the day ( dogs are allowed).
Nearby there are lots of walks and activities such as canoeing so ideal if you are active and have children.
A good site worth a visit.

I've just returned from a one night stay at this lovely site. It's in a glorious location, surrounded by the Black Mountains and is an ideal base for hiking and cycling.
As our stay was out of season we could choose our pitch and although it was slightly sloping it was nicely kept and we had loads of space. My 8 year old son thoroughly enjoyed riding around on his bike and we had plenty of room for badminton etc.
As mentioned in other reviews the toilets and showers are old fashioned but they were spotlessly clean and there was always plenty of hot water (by the way, the water for the site comes from a mountain spring and is delicious!)
There are a couple of unisex showers if you need to shower children. The reception/shop is open from 9am to 10pm and from 6pm to 7pm and the owners were very friendly and helpful. There is no digital tv signal on the site so you have to retune your tv to analogue and if you can't get a picture (which we couldn't!) The owner will hook you up to an ariel connected to the electric hook up box. We were able to get 7 channels.
There is a pub just down the road which we didn't use as it was quite expensive (as I am a vegan and my son is a vegetarian I was a bit loathe to pay almost £10 for veggie curry when there were steaks on the menu for the same price plus the children's menu didn't offer anything veggie).
We visited the Mynydd Ddu cafe which is practically opposite the pub and serves freshly prepared, reasonably priced meals. They also do mountain bike hire.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It's not the type of site to go to if you're looking for 5 star facilities but it reminded me of how caravan sites used to be when I was a child back in the 1970's/80's and for that reason we will be paying another visit.

Nice clean site, the pitch we were on was very ample, but site was not busy, we were greeted very well and help was on hand.
The slightly slopping pitches are steeper than you think.
The showers were excellent, but very dated as were the toilets serious updating needed. A bit overpriced we thought at £22 for 2 adult and 1 child.
But the biggest problem with the campsite is don't go out for a meal etc. as you will have return before 10pm otherwise you will be locked out. You will have to climb over a gate to get in. We thought this was really excessive to close so early

We found this to be a beautifully located site within easy driving distance of Abergavenny, and with plenty to see around and about. Watch for the right turn on to the road leading to the site! There are walks directly from the site, and a great pub just a short walk away. It is sloping and terraced although our pitch at the top was not too bad, not needing extra levelling. It was a bit awkward to get on to for amateur reversers like us! As others have commented, the facilities are a bit dated, but clean and more than adequate. The tent pitches look lovely and in a pretty spot at the bottom of the site. We didn't need to use the shop but it's handy to have it there. We enjoyed our stay, but the slope of the site would put us off visiting again. The owners are not on site and perhaps that's why the barrier is locked at night.

We stayed here for two nights over a bank holiday weekend as a base to complete a 50 mile cycle around the nearby Black Mountains. Absolutely glorious location. Shower facilities were basic but extremely clean and more than adequate for our needs. Great to have a separate washing up hut for dirty dishes etc.
Fantastically friendly owners who were more than willing to help out when planning our cycle route. Very good value shop on-site for the basics you may need.
Farmers Arms pub is a ten minute walk, great food at reasonable prices and a good selection of real ales.
Would have happily paid more than the £7.50/person/night.

Stayed here during may bank holiday. Site was quite busy.
The directions to get to the site were good and it's well signposted. However there's quite a long single track approach road.
On our arrival the office was closed and it was not easy to find a pitch we could reverse our caravan into. Much of the site is terraced, however there is a level tent field next to the road, but no hook ups here. There's a handy small shop on site and a pub within walking distance.
The shower and toilet facilities were quite old but serviceable, could do with more space in the shower as it was very cramped with a toddler in with me too! The showers and toilets were regularly cleaned but on one occasion another camper had left the shower door open overnight and I had to mop out all the leaves and twigs before I could use it.
The biggest draw back with this site was that there wasn't really space for our children to run around and play, and for that reason we won't be returning.

Spent three nights mid week at this site, good base for mountain biking and walking, and a decent enough pub for a pint nearby. Facilities reasonable, owners pleasant and helpful.
The site is pleasant enough, particularly for campers in the lower section of the site.
However, the area for campervans and caravans suffers from a few too many seasonal pitches, crammed into every available space, at all angles. This made the site feel a little tatty and combined with mainly sloping grassy pitches there were few choices left for tourers to pitch.
Overall and compared to many other sites, seemed quite expensive for what was on offer and limited appeal for tourers.

We stayed just one night, en route home, but seeing the scenery and such a wealth of walking paths we'll certainly return. One thing does seem to have changed from the previous reviews here - we didn't have to pay for showers.
Yes, the facilities are dated (recalling the days when WCs really flushed!), but clean and adequate. For vans there's chemical toilet disposal, and a limited number of electric hook-ups.
Also an area of level hard-standing, whereas much of the grassy area is sloping. Although the surroundings are very green and leafy, there is traffic noise from the A479 - it didn't bother us, but might have done in a tent.

We visited this site because we were looking for something reasonably close to home to try out our recently purchased tent and camping equipment for the first time. We weren't disappointed.
Yes, the facilities are somewhat dated and there are some creepy crawlies around but the showers pump out plenty of hot water and are free of charge. There are 3 wash handbasins in the ladies' block, a large mirror and a hairdryer which costs 20p (although as I didn't use this I'm not sure how long you get for your 20p!).
There were plenty of toilet facilities with mirrors and basins, a washing up area with 2 sinks (water not very hot for washing greasy pots)and a chemical toilet waste disposal pit.
The site is on a slope but is very scenic and extremely well kept. You just turn up and pick your spot. The grass is short and the site is extremely clean and tidy. There are trees around the edges and dotted about and hedges that break up the site and give an air of privacy between units.
There are picnic tables, a couple of tyre swings for the kids (and that's the extent of entertainment for the kids but that didn't stop my children being fully occupied for the time we were there ) and easy access to plenty of walking.
The site is peaceful, feels very safe for the children (mine are 3 and 5) and allows dogs as long as they are kept on a lead.
Although we were only there for one night, we will definitely return for longer next time.

Stayed at Cwmdu in July. Nice quiet site with relaxed atmosphere. Most pitches slope a little so you need to pay a little attention to where you set up. Great views of surrounding hills. Toilets are clean but old, and I couldn't get two of them to flush despite repeated attempts.
Shower is free and hot, though more of a wetroom so you'll have to take a bag and hang it on the door. There was only one male shower so around 7am, a queue developed ! Farmers Arms pub is only a short stroll away, and the food is good. Can't take a dog in so we ate outside and the landlord supplied a bucket full of table scraps FOC for my dog; which was nice.
Would recommend this site to anyone. Though if the owners are reading this - can you update your toilet facilities please ?
