Just returned from a fantastic weekend at Cwmdu caravan and campsite. It is a lovely little site which has been well maintained and has all the on site facilities that you would expect such as showers (20p for six minutes of piping hot water) toilets, chemical disposal point etc. It even has a little stor

e/reception area selling any last minute essentials you might need. The site is situated perfectly for walks into the Black Mountains and we did two whilst we were there, one up to the highest peak (can't remember the name of the mountain)and another smaller mountain on the Sunday before we left. There are a lot of people who have sited their caravans there permanently and we chatted to many of them during our stay it has a lovely community feel about it.

The pub called the Farmers Arms is a short stroll along a quiet country lane and takes about five minutes to get there. We were made welcome by the landlord and all the staff the moment we entered the door. The food is very good and is reasonably priced with a choice of all your usual traditional pub grub along with a specials selection which includes a choice of Thai curries. The landlords son is Thai and just happens to be the chef so as you can imagine the curry is exactly what you would expect if you were actually in Thailand. We know this to be a true fact as we have been to Thailand and had one. In fact the food and ambience was so good that even though we had gone away stocked up with food we ate at the pub every evening and then returned on the Sunday afternoon for a traditional Sunday roast. We bought all our food back home again.

It is situated in such breathtaking surroundings it makes you gasp just looking around. Arriving quite late we decided to eat at the pub, rather than cook, lovely pub and great food as described above, but to our surprise, Wyn the man had only gone out and bought butter for the couple who had booked in before us and delivered it to the couple in the pub. What a guy he turned out to be, full of local knowledge about the mountains and the walks, he gave us perfect and precise directions on the walks we did, Who needs an ordanance survey map when you got Wyn. This man had me in stitches all weekend, I went to the shop to buy goods and an hour later returned to the van only to be met with a quizical look from the wife, 'where you been'

Sunday morning Shower time, I had been gone for an hour, when the wife came looking for me, again, only to be greeted with a 'how long you going to be' from the wife, I hadn't made it past Wyn

Cwmdu, it is perfect, a place to die for, the campsite also, will we go back, what do you think, for sure, maybe even next week, the campers and local people are just so friendly it's unbelievable, the pub landlady even waved us goodbye as we left, and to sum up, I would go back even if it was to just chew the cud with Wyn.

A small but basic site. Facilities are rather dilapidated but are kept scrupulously clean. Ample shower facilities, though you don't get long for your 20p.

Site is terraced, so most pitches are nice and level.

Owners don't live on-site, so it can be awkward to resolve problems.

Local pub serves good food and has a friendly landlord. Good food from cafe just across the road from the site.

A fabulous find, we loved Cwmdu Campsite.

After surfing the net for days & not being able to get into any of the big campsites in the Brecon Beacons we booked into Cwmdu, a low key village camping ground and how glad were we to have done so.

We arrived on the Friday eve of May Bank Hol weekend to be warmly welcomed by Wyn, the guy that looks after the site, in fact we've never been so nicely welcomed to a site before I don't think! Wyn gave us lots of local info and couldn't have been more accommodating, friendly and helpful. We were shown to a fantastic neat grassy pitch with wonderful views over the hills.

Even though it was one of the busiest weekends for camping of the year the site was peaceful and not packed.

The sites facilities are of an older kind but kept immaculate and we didn't have to queue for a nice hot shower (cost 20p for ample time).

There's a little shop too for things you may have forgotten to pack.

We felt very comfortable, relaxed and at home on the site and all our fellow campers were very friendly and chatty too.

There are plenty of walks from the site. It is in easy reach of the Brecons Way path.

There is a good local pub down the road, 5 min walk which serves pub fare and good selection of beers and local cider.

Definitely recommend to all.

Lovely site .Great location. Facilities old fashioned and traditional, but takes me back to the good old days of camping. Very clean. Nice pub near-by selling good ales.Mountain walk behind site for walking dogs. Only gripe, no hot water for dishwashing. However, you only have to ask for a bucket of hot water if you can't boil your own. Quiet and relaxed atmosphere, even the'bikers' were early to bed. Will definitely return! Noise from road a bit annoying in the lower field if the 'week-end bikers' are out early. Everyone mentions the Rooks but that's why you go to the countryside.

This is a lovely site with great views and very friendly and helpful owners. It is slap bang in the middle of the Western Brecon Beacons / Black Mountains. It is quite sheltered from the wind as it's surrounded by hills. It is a basic and quiet site with rustic but fully functional showers and toilets and a rope-swing for kids. A small shop is open for a couple of hours in the morning and evening. There's a local pub with average food.

It's an atmospheric spot and I enjoyed watching the clouds roll across the surrounding hilltops and back again. Very dramatic scenery and a great spot to walk from. Our two kids (ages 7 & 2) loved the site despite the lack of conventional play area.

Great site if you are looking for life's simple pleasures. It is a good location for exploring the Brecons and Black Mountains and is a quite a pretty, quiet site (other people have mentioned noise from the road but I only noticed one truck pass during our 3 nights there).
It is quite sloping but has areas that are level enough to be comfy and seeing as it is not busy and you can just turn up and pick your own spot (plenty of room) it is just fine.
The toilets and showers are 'rustic' and won't suit anyone scared of spiders / moths but they all work fine and 4 is sufficient for the number of people there (and we were there Aug Bank Holiday!). 20p gives 6 mins lovely hot water, which was plenty for a good shower (even for me who dawdles and faffs washing my hair!) and likewise 20p in the hair dryer does the job too.
I would say this is a great site for folk who want to get out and enjoy the surrounding country side and be in bed by 10pm without needing any frills or extras but probably doesn't offer what you need for a family holiday or for those of a more sensitive constitution! But at £4 each per night I think they have got it spot on!

A friend had been to this campsite over ten years earlier and we decided to trust his judgement. Yes things are a little basic, but good basic. 20p for a six minute shower, plenty of time to get the day started. All toilets were covered and everywhere was clean and tidy.
The shop was very well stocked, compared to other larger places I've visited and the owners were very friendly. Great choice of where to pitch, and no restrictions on direction of tent or space. Also, really handy that scattered around are usable picnic benches.
Fantastic views of the countryside. Local pub was very welcoming and a good place to avoid the odd showers. Did not eat but the food looked good and there seemed lots of choice. Cafe, just over the road, lovely breakfasts and snacky foods. If real camping is what you want, this is definitely a place to look to to use as a base to explore the surrounding areas from.

Good site, lovely setting. Here you can have a lot of space. Pick your own spot. Facilities are clean. 4 showers (20p) and a well stocked little shop.
Nice and quiet, No 'entertainment' which suits us. You can walk from the site up onto the Black mountains, see a lot of bird life. Not a lot for children to do, just a couple of swings.
Short walk to the pub and a good cafe which is great for breakfasts. We can recomend it. Definitely worth a visit. £4 per person a night. Not expensive.

Quite a basic site with amazing views. There is only one shower in each block which takes 20p's. A couple of toilets indoors and a few outside (undercover!)There is a small washing up area too.

There was one tyre type swing but the kids entertain themselves any where we go.

The owners were friendly, prices ok for me as you pay per person, but could work out expensive for the bigger family. Alot of Duke of Edinburgh groups arrived at random points through each night we were there which may disturb or bother some people- not myself as I've been involved with the award and scouts for about 18 years.

There is a shop on site which sells a wide range of stuff.

There is a cafe about 400m away which wasn't too badly priced.

We all (3 ladies and 7 children all under 9) went to the pub for a meal on a Saturday night. Only about 500m away. It wasn't the cheapest place to eat but also not extortionate, the staff welcomed us all- dirty and untidy!

We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay. Will probably visit again.

The location for our last night of the May 2008 campaign, and definitely a site to revisit. Don't be put off by (a) the dated facilities or (b) the noisy rooks; the former were very clean (6 minute shower 20p) and the latter do shut up by around tea time and you get used to them (they are also a protected species in that area, the owner informed me).
The view from the park was absolutely beautiful, unspolit by the traffic on the road (not too intrusive and like the rooks, you don't notice it after a while). If you are in the lower, flatter field you may notice it more, but in the upper field it's not a problem (slope wise, it eases off towards the bottom and our van levelled out fine with our trusty wooden wedges). To summarise, a nice quiet little site (rooks excepted!) with a fabulous view.
