It could be a gem, have written to the CCC about this site. Situated as it is, indeed it is the gateway to the highlands. However, despite the hard working efforts of the manager and his wife, the whole site needs a make over. The fences are rotten, the roads are breaking up and the electrics are in need of an upgrade. The toilet and showers are clean but so old and worn even the best efforts of the staff cannot persuade me to use them. On a positive note, the town is an easy walk away, Tesco's sell diesel at a decent price and there are shops and bakeries on the high street for a pleasant browse. Train station is a 10 minute walk away and can be used to access other parts of the highlands.

A bit dated this Site as other reviewers have noted. There are 2 toilet & shower blocks, one, centrally located, with washing facilities and pass code locked, the other is very small in one corner but is not locked. Both are clean enough but need updating. I am also constantly surprised that, the further North I seem to go, the more Site owners feel a need to have uncovered washing facilities.
The neighbouring Global Energy Stadium, home of Ross County FC was having a full scale pitch replacement so there was a lot of earthmoving & construction work going on from fairly early on in the morning.
TV reception was poor and trains trundle along one side (opposite to the football ground).
On the positive side, the site is well managed by helpful staff and is located just outside town. Dingwall itself looks like a traditional, if quiet little town but is well placed to get across to Ullapool for the afternoon Ferry to Stornoway.

We had tried to book this site online but the computer said there was no suitable pitch available for our motor home. So we telephoned and were immediately booked in on a hard standing pitch with EHU.
This site is approached over a narrow railway bridge and then through the car park of Ross County FC.
Very friendly helpful site managers, husband & wife team. We were given a choice of pitches & picked one in the best area for tv reception which turned out not to be that good but we did get plenty of sunshine as we were not shaded by trees.
The site is next to the railway, but the trains are travelling very slowly as they enter the station & did not cause us any problems. The first one is about 6 am but none over night.
What did cause problems during the night was the noise from the boiler room of the football clubs under ground heating. This is on a thermostat and kept coming on and going off during the night which was a cold one. The nose was disruptive.
The shower block was very warm, very clean but dated and well ready for a refurb.
In fact dated and well ready for a refurb applies to the site in general. Which we understand now has its lease sorted so C&CC over to you as this is a lovely site.
A short walk from the site is Dingwall town centre which is very pleasant consisting of mainly independent shops. But does have a Tesco which had the cheapest diesel we have seen for a long time.
A walk in the other direction takes you along the canal to the old Harbor picnic site with good views down the Cormarty Firth and then back into the town centre.

We chose this site as a one night stop over before heading north and were pleasantly suprised.
Its a lovely site on the edge of Dingwall, within walking distance of the town centre with good shops, award winning butchers, bakers, fishmonger, cafes, banks and take-aways. There are also 3 distilleries within about 20 miles.
Site staff are very friendly and helpful, the facilities are clean and the pitches, a mix of hard standing and grass, are broken up with beech hedges and trees. Even though its right next to the railway line the trains caused no problems.
Ross County football club is right next to the site but didn't cause a problem either, on the night that we stayed the second team were playing and entrance was free.
There is a short walk along the canal to a lovely picnic area overlooking Cromarty Firth.
If you want a pub then The Mallard is the only one in town worth a visit if only to say you had a beer on a railway station!
Would definitely recommend this site for both a short and longer stay, it would be a great pity if the Club lost this site at the end of the season as mentioned in Rfling's review.

Found Dingwall to be a pleasant little town. The campsite is in a good location within walking distance of the town along a quiet footpath. However, I received a rather unfriendly welcome and found the toilet block difficult to access in the dark. Could not find anything else to recommend this site. Also, if you happen to visit during the football season be aware that the entrance road passes the Ross County’s ground. Overall I was very disappointed and would not use it site again, especially as there is an excellent B&B further down Ferry Road.

An excellent friendly site, ideal for exploring the surrounding area or as a stopover for going further up north. The site is close to town, on the other side of the railway.
The wardens were very helpful, taking us to our pitch. We pitched on grass next to tarmac - seemed to be plenty of grass pitches for caravans, and all fine despite the exceptionally wet weather during our stay. We were very close to the railway line but were not woken by any early morning trains.
The toilet block was very nice, showers hot and clean.
The town has everything you need including a large Tesco (including petrol station), Tandoori restaurant, and chip shop.
During our stay we visited Hugh Miller's Cottage, a National Trust property in Cromarty that is the birthplace of this interesting writer, geologist, paleontologist and editor. Well worth the 30 minute drive, and the village of Cromarty is also very interesting historically, and with views over the Cromarty Firth.

Spent 11 nights here from 16th April in generally good weather. Site is a little tired and needs a general overhaul but I heard that there was a possibility that the Caravan & Camping Club could loose the lease on the land this year and maybe they are waiting for the decision.
All facilities were clean and fully operational and the site is ideally located for the town and the surrounding area. However, the site has the familiar problem on most C&C Club sites in that the waste water disposal drain is surrounded by a 12 inch high wall. Lifting a full waste container weighing more than 42Kg onto a wall to empty it is very difficult and dangerous. I am surprised that the Club Health and Safety officer allows the situation.
Despite all the above, we enjoyed the site and the wardens were gems!

We stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed it, the toilets and showers are spotless, small queue for showers early in the morning though, but not 2 long to wait.
The couple who run it were very friendly and helpful.
There is a walk up the side of the river which seemed popular, and in the other direction its only a 5 minute walk into town.
Didn't see an area for kids to play on but there's an area of grass next to the site which they can play on. Dingwall itself is a nice town to explore, plenty of shops and places to eat out.
If I was in the area again I would definitely return to this site.

This was a very friendly site. The wardens were very helpful, the pitches are all level and nice and big. There are two toilet and shower blocks and both are kept spotless.
It is a short walk into the town but the site is peaceful and quiet, it is near he football stadium but this did not cause any problems. There are two good supermarkets in Dingwall as well as lots of really good smaller shops.
It was good to be near a railway station and we took the train for a day out.
We have booked to go back in 202 which shows how good we think this site is.

This site is really easy to find and is very well signposted from the A862 - we chose it as we like sites that are close to towns and local facilities.
There probably would not be much room for kids to play when the site is full but there is a huge green opposite the entrance. During our visit there were storms and high winds. The site is pretty much sheltered so no damage but a lot of debris from the many trees surrounding the site and it was very soggy underfoot.
The power went off for a while and the Warden ran round to each unit getting drenched to the skin keeping everyone informed. He deserves a medal.
It is a very well looked after site although as mentioned before the toilet block is a bit dated; it is however kept very clean. There is a second smaller block but we did not use this so cannot comment. There is one washing machine (£4. 50) and one dryer (you need 4 x 20p at least per load). I think this site holds the record for the highest resident number of rabbits!
Dingwall is a very good centre for touring. We especially liked Findhorn, Elgin and Forres. Very close to the site is the Rail Station. We went on a lovely scenic trip to Kyle of Lochalsh which took about 2 hours each way and was £18 return per person (booked in advance). We were told that the trip up north to Wick is good too.
Frasers Auctions on the A862 road into Dingwall is not just a livestock market. It is worth driving into the car park just to see the £65, 000 Bronze of a drover with his dog and a highland bull which was unveiled in April 2011. There is also a very interesting permanent exhibition of the history of the area open to visitors and a very reasonably priced cafe. If you are lucky you may also pick up a bargain if the general auction is on!
Dingwall itself is nothing to get excited about and has a tired feel to it. Frasers Butchers and Deas Bakers are excellent and there is a good sized Tesco in the town centre.
We chose this site as it is an easy level walk into the town and the dog walking directly from the site entrance is wonderful with pathways all around the town and out to the point with lovely views of the Cromarty Firth. However there were no dog friendly pubs or cafes and as the weather was so awful during our stay we could have done with somewhere dry and warm occasionally.
The only pet friendly pubs and cafes we found were in Fortrose and Rosemarkie. Also the Royal Hotel in Cromarty allow dogs into their conservatory which has amazing views and they do the best fish and chips in the world.
