Just back from a 3 night stay at Demesne Farm, a late decision to go camping in October, but don't think we'll be going camping this late in the year again!
The camping field was very overgrown, I don't think the owners were expecting anyone this late in the season, and pretty boggy.
We were the only ones there, so had sole use of the toilet/showers in the converted outbuildings, which was just as well as they weren't cleaned the whole time we were there (and were muddy even when we arrived too).
So we thought the £18 per night was quite expensive (2 adults, 1 child, and electric)for such a basic site in October- we do like 'rustic' sites, but at a price to match!
The weather was atrocious, gale force winds, torrential rain, followed by frost, and we returned from Hadrian's Wall (quite close by), to find our side extension had collapsed and ripped, and even metal pole connectors had been bent double in the wind!
On the plus side, the owners were friendly, and the local pub, The Cheviot, was lovely and warm and did good cheap takaway food (we couldn't cook after our porch collapsed and gas cooker blew over!) Probably much better in the summer, but don't think we'd return.

A small campsite within a stone's throw of the village centre. Only £12 for the two of us and a tent without electric but the showers cost another £0. 50 timed for 6 mins.
Shop and freezer facilities are unnecessary as it's that close to town and a 08:00 to 22:00 supermarket. The wash rooms are situated across a farm yard and there was only a single ladies shower which may be an issue during peak times.
A tall evergreen hedge sheltered us form hurricane Katia and the field is fairly level with good views. The sounds of sheep, cows and dogs are to be expected and add to the rural camping experience.
Be warned of the hedgehogs. We were woken by one rattling around in our yet to be done washing up bowl in the small hours.
We thought that The Cheviot Hotel was the best pub in the village. There is also a local butcher and bakers. Do walk up the river to Hawshaw Linn (waterfall).
Good access to Kielder reservoir and Hadrian's Wall. Found the Queen's Head at Great Whittington (30 mins South) did some good food too.

Very pleased with site, we found the owner very helpful,
The site was flat and plenty of room to pitch.
For a farm site the facilities were quite good, although could be cleaned a little more frequently.
We stayed a week and despite a lot of wet weather and high winds our tent survived but it didn't stop us enjoying our stay.
The shops being just round the corner were a bonus and everyone on site were friendly,
A good stopping off campsite, without a doubt we would come back again in the future.

Just returned from a wonderful week at Demesne Farm. We have nothing bad to say about this campsite. Great prices - £15 per night for a huge pitch with EHU, 2 adults and 2 dogs. Facilities are basic but clean. We were concerned there was no freezer, but the owner offered his own freezer to freeze our blocks for us. The location is perfect - lovely small village with all the amenities you could ever need with beautiful walks in all directions. A Chinese takeaway, a cafe, a co-op, bakery, 3 pubs, although we only tried the Cheviot Hotel which we loved. They accept dogs in the bar as well and have free (fast) wi-fi if you need to send an emergency email!
All in all it was perfect for what we wanted - beautiful surroundings, clean facilities (don't expect 5* hotel bathrooms, it's in a converted barn!), and great location. We'll DEFINITELY be back!

This site is based on a working farm in the centre of the village of Bellingham making it highly convenient for the Heritage Centre, shops pubs and eating out. Hadrians Wall and the Kielder Lake are both within easy reach.
There are two camping fields, one with electric hookup, the other without. The owners were very pleasant and refroze our freezer packs every day as we had problems with our fridge. TV reception was not very good until we realised that this area hadn't yet gone digital. The analogue reception was great.
The washing facilities were not so good. They were set in existing farm buildings. Nothing wrong with the workmanship but not very large. Only one shower and two WC cubicles in the ladies and not much more in the gents. In high season this could be a big issue. We thought it a bit mean to have to pay 50p for the shower (6 minutes). Also the facilities didn't seem to get cleaned very regularly.
There were lumps of mud in the shower stalls when we tried to use them. It would have helped if there had been a mop and bucket or a squeegee for campers to use.
There is another much bigger campsite about 1. 5 miles out of the village which probably doesn't have these problems although it charges around £10 a night more.
Despite the washing facilities we enjoyed our stay at Demesne Farm and will probably go back again.

When we arrived there was no-one at the reception (back door of farm house) so we decided to pitch first and pay later. The friendly farmer saw us on the way into the field and gave us a brief handy orientation of the site.
Booking in advance is recommended as the site was very nearly fully booked for the weekend. The campsite consisted of two fields - a flat one with hook-up points which was sheltered by tall trees and was near to the toilets and a bumpier one further away with no electric points but a nice view of the rolling countryside.
The one little gripe was that there was a row of green portable cabins on what appeared to be a small building site about 2-300 metres away across the fields which detracted slightly from the rural idyll but only very slightly.
In fact, apart from the tidy row of Dutch bungalows in view, the site felt like it was very much in the back of beyond (very peaceful) so it was a great surprise to roll out of the campsite and find pubs, a village store, a Co-op, a post office and all sorts of useful gubbins just around the corner.
The facilities were basic and housed in amongst working barns (two toilets and one shower in the ladies with a couple of free electric sockets) but they were always nice and clean, reasonably warm and well stocked with loo roll. 50p paid for six minutes of lovely hot water and there were plenty of pegs and a stool in the changing area of the shower cubicle. I never had to queue for a shower which was an advantage. The dish washing sinks are in the same room as the toilets but far enough away for it not to feel 'icky.'
There are some lovely riverside walks within easy reach of the campsite and the Kielder Forest Park is only about 20mins away by car. The site itself does not have any specific facilities for children but as it is a working farm then kids and animal lovers (like myself) were able to see the lambs in the barn and chat to the free range chooks. As requested in the site rules campers tended to pipe down around 10.30pm and there was a generally relaxed family-friendly vibe about the place. I'd recommend taking some insect repellent though as although we weren't inundated by swarms of midges there were a few persistent little critters around at dusk.
My family and I would certainly visit Demesne Farm again and found it to be a friendly, personal and very pretty kind of a retreat.

Just got back from this great site-first trip of the year and couldn't have picked a better site.
Lovely views of surrounding countryside, friendly owners, a fab position within the village so amenities close at hand and great walks close by for the kids and dog!
The real pull of this site is the relaxed atmosphere and its setting. The facilities are fine and fit in with the farming environment. Its not all singing and dancing but that's the appeal.
The loos and showers were clean and despite the fact there was only one shower (i think the mens had 2!)it seemed enough. Who needs a playground when you have a shed full of sheep to see on the way to the loo!
Couldn't recommend this site highly enough. Brilliant

Just got back from a 4 night stay at this site. We were given a choice of where we wanted to pitch as the site was fairly empty, so we opted for the cover of some trees as it was expected to be windy. The pitches seemed very flat with loads of grass - probably the best pitches we have come across in our camping career.
The owners were extremely friendly and welcoming and showed us the facilities. Although there's only a couple of showers and a couple of toilets, they were kept very clean in wet conditions, and we never had to queue for either - it got busy the second day on the site but we still never had to queue.
Although the site got busy (no pitches in our part of the land were left) it never felt cramped, and noise was never a problem. Come 10:30 everybody seemed to get their heads down and keep quiet - the first time I've ever seen it done this quickly on a campsite!
Bellingham is a lovely small town with a Post Office, hardware store, co-op, butchers, bakery, cafe, chinese take-away, and 3 pubs. We never went to any of the pubs but visited the hotel just outside of Bellingham for a meal - wasn't too impressed. The bakery did lovely pasties and pies.
We feel that this campsite is the best value for money we've had out of all the campsites we've visited, and we will definitely be back in the future. I've given the campsite 9 out of 10 for facilities - although there weren't many they met our needs perfectly.

A lovely campsite, very close to the village with shops, pubs, banks etc.
We stayed on the Sat night of Bank Holiday weekend and the site was full (except for walkers / cyclists who seem to be made welcome even without bookings which I thought was very helpful!).
There was no-one in the farmhouse when we arrived (it was the day of the Village Show, so I am guessing they were busy there!) and no answer to the mobile phone no given, so we just drove through and pitched up at the most sensible spot, knowing the site was going to be full.
Shower was good, lots of hot water (50p for 6 mins). No facilities for kids, but the chickens wandering about were cute.
However the stay was spoilt by the inconsiderate group who stayed up playing music, singing and shouting until well past 1am. I hope they had horrible hangovers the next day.
