We have been visiting Demesne camp site for some years now. We previously went to Brown Rig until they over did it with the rules and regulations. Demesne is within a 5 minute walk of the village of Bellingham. Not a huge site so it is never too busy. We stayed at least 2/3 times a year when we had a tent - now we have a caravan so will be staying a lot more as it doesn't matter what the weather is like now. If you are taking a TV there is no digital signal yet in Bellingham.
The Bellingham Show weekend is great but you need to book early. The show is always the last Saturday in August and the beer tent always goes down well with our crew. Also the live music is usually very good with a nice mix of styles.
There are 3 pubs in the village all of which are very friendly. The Co-op is open until 10pm at night which is handy but it is slightly more expensive than most due to location.
Well worth a visit.

After reading reviews on this site we decided we would give it a go
The main tent field itself was very hilly so difficult to pitch tent and in the end we had to go the field with the electric hookup as this field was flat. It had been raining and I presume there is a leak in the toilets roof as the tiled floor was soaking wet and dangerously slippy, there was no toilet roll and the toilets looked like they were out of the ark.
This is also a working farm so there are hens walking round the fields (one came in our tent!) and there are sheep, plenty of sheep, which at 6.00 in the morning their noise is not appreciated!
The worst part of the entire time we spend was the midgeys. There are millions of them.
The good thing this site offers is it very close to the main village.

This is our old faithful campsite if we only have a couple of nights. Toilet and shower are basic but clean.
Nice village with good bars, co-op, butchers, newsagents and little general hardware shop plus a couple of gift shops.
Close to Kielder and Otterburn. There is a kids park in the village and a nice easy walk to small waterfall not far from site.

This is a great site. Camping as it should be - with no airs and graces. It's located within staggering distance of the village, which itself is not too far from Kielder and only slightly further to Hadrians Wall. The facilities are very basic. One shower and two toilets in the ladies - all of which look like they could be the original ones installed when the site opened 30 odd years ago! But they all worked and there was never a queue so what more do you need?! It was also very cheap - I think it was £11 pn for two adults and a dog. Bargain!
The pubs in the village are ok but there is a fantastic pub called the Bayhorse in West Woodburn (appx 5 miles away). The food was all home made and delicious and it has a great atmosphere and friendly locals. Definitely worth a visit.

Love this campsite and village, probably the lesser known of the two but in Bellingham so I'm not saying too much cos I'd like it to stay that way ha ha. No it's a fantastic little site with well kept facilities and the owners are very helpful. Perfectly situated just off the village which has everything that is needed including banks, co-op, post office, butchers, bicycle hire and even a golf course. Ideal for visiting Kielder and local bus services are fairly regular to kielder and Hexham. Local pubs are very friendly and from the first moment I walked in wearing a sunderland shirt the good humoured football banter started and I spent a highly enjoyable sunday afternoon and evening in the company of the locals. If you haven't been yet get yourself there.

A great site set close to the centre of Bellingham.
The owners could not have been more friendly and helpful. As you may have guessed its a working farm which gives all visitors plenty to see, we loved the friendly chickens who seemed to be always hungry.
Toilets and showers were adequate and well maintained. Fantastic butchers in town and I can recommend his Cumberland sausages. A choice of 3 pubs in town serving great food as reasonable prices. Only a local co-op to buy groceries which we found to be overpriced but then again, no competition. Newsagents, Hardware store and a post office are all within 4 mins walk from site. Would certainly visit again. Plenty of fantastic walks and great scenery to take in.

Just got back from Demesne (pronounced Demain!) and we've had a brilliant time.
The Chickens are still there and we gave them the names Dixie and Kentucky!
Its a great little farm site, very tidy and well kept. The owners are very helpful and friendly too.
We spent the whole weekend there and wished we could've stayed longer.
The toilet and shower blocks are very satisfactory, cleaned everyday and plenty of hot water. As mentioned in previous reviews showers still require 50p per 6 minute use.
As stated above, its a nice site but I would love to have seen something more for the kids. The site's been going 36years so I half expected there to be a playground of some sort for the kids, maybe in the overspill field. (Just an idea).
Saying that, the lack of facilities forces you to make your own entertainment, hence the endless games of rounders, football and frisbee ( and the occassional game of travel bingo!)
We scored for a cracking weekend weather wise and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My ten year old son loved it.
We also met some nice people there, mainly other tent dwellers, do caravanners thinks they're a cut above?
The midges come out with a vengance from late afternoon, TAKE SOME REPELLANT!
All in all i'd give Demesne 7/10. It would've been a definite full 10 had there been an adventure playground of some kind. Saying that, we'll head back there sometime i'm sure.
Thanks for a nice weekend!

What a great place! a real farm field campsite. Mr Telfer a real nice helpful guy showed us in and let us pick a pitch, showed us the wash / toilet block etc and was around most days if req. As per other reviews the separate ladies and gents blocks are built into some of the old farm buildings just off the field quite modern and always clean (50p pieces req for showers so take some with you) plenty of hot water and a dish washing sink in each block, which I guess means that only one or the other sex can do the washing up at a time, suffice to say our dishes did not see the inside of the ladies area!.
They're Keen drinkers in Bellingham with 3 pubs in a quite small village all withing 3-4 mins stagger of the site!, though we turned right out of the site and drove 4 miles to the junction with the a68 and a fab pub as advertised in the sites brochure display and recommended by mr telfer, cant remember the name of the pub now, but food was great, nice rustic place with a separate dining room if you prefer a little more formal, kids outdoor play area and outdoor garden tables etc. Loads of locals and a pool table/dartboard. Nice to see a pub with good grub and space for games and not just cramming in food tables.
Bellingham is, as mentioned, pretty small and 20mins sees it all, some local walks but mostly (as we did and as per other reviews) its a base for kielder, hexham/corbridge visits and the borders, though as we are only a hour away we would definitely pop back for a 2 day break just for the nice site/pub/peace and quiet.
No signal at all on vodafone, don't know about other networks, I couldnt get freeview tv to work (could be no signal, could have been me, just bear it in mind)
Despite the farmer mentioning some peoples dislike of the chickens roaming around WE LOVED EM!, really funny with great characters, doing circuits of the site scratching around. If the others see you giving some a bit of grub they all come piling across the site at full tilt for fear of missing out, a great fun distraction all squabling and clucking and they ain't shy at grabbing cream crackers!
So whilst its not one of these glitzy shop on site and private pub/club with swimming pool etc sites, Demesne has its own charms and is priced accordingly/good value and to be highly recommended.
Quiet when we went mid week after schools back
So I don't know what its like at peak times, perhaps a peak time visitor could put something on here to expand on that

Lovely site, very clean and lots of space - great for visiting Kielder water, and lots of nice pubs in the area. Wonderful wildlife and so peaceful. The owners are new, I think, and were very helpful. We were lucky with the weather, but the midges were a bit of a nuisance at night.

This was our first time camping and we really enjoyed the time at the Farm campsite. Facilities were basic but always kept clean. The site is right in the centre of Bellingham with a CO-OP shop, butcher's, baker's, 2 Banks, post office 3 pubs and even a Craft and Card shop which made my other half's eyes light up! A good touring base for Kielder and the surrounding area. By the way I must agree with other reviewers regarding the mad free range chickens who were friendly though.
