Small site, busy during school holidays (need to book), but shower and toilet facilities were adequate for numbers on site and were kept clean.
Some small ride on toys provided for smaller children, although not a lot of extra space for ball games which could be a problem when there are larger groups of children - balls being kicked into cars/tents.
Beach at Exmouth is beautiful and manned by lifeguards. It is only a short drive away. Lots for children including new play area in park behind beach.
There are all the usual seaside entertainments plus a miniature railway to while away a few hours. There are a mixture of shops in Exmouth including one for gas cylinders/camping supplies and a small Tesco. Local shops and takeaways are only a short drive for supplies.
Road outside can be a bit busy as a cut through to the enormous caravan site down the road.

This was our first outing in a campervan so we were a bit nervous! What a lovely site. Mary, the warden was extremely helpful and was always around in case anyone needed anything. The showers and toilets were kept very clean and all hot water was free(solar heated).
Despite being only a 15 minute walk from Exmouth beach it felt like 100 miles from anywhere.
The area has much of interest and a good bus service ran from the nearby village of Littleham. We went to Budleigh Salterton along the coast path and visited Seaton ( an interesting town) with its fascinating tramway.
This site has a special friendly feel and we will certainly visit again.

This was our first visit to this National Trust site, the sat-nav took us down the lane that bypasses the village which was a bit narrow (my fault for not reading the os map, getting good at reversing!)
Once we were there the access was good through double gates and the owners very helpful with choosing a pitch, west facing with a view of the surrounding fields.
The site has only 30 pitches so never felt overcrowded although some of the tents were pretty close to each other. There was a school camping trip to the field adjacent to the main field, the kids were a little noisy in the evening but it did quieten down by 10. 30. The showers were excellent, always hot and everything clean.
The site is very rural but the village shop is within walking distance - shortest route via the footpaths, checkout the os map. Exmouth town is walkable but it's a bit of a trek back uphill if it's hot.
Good weekend market on Exmouth front, lots of interest, books, maps etc. The National Trust property A La Ronde is just up the road and is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Overall good value and we would visit again.

This is a lovely, small and peaceful site off a winding country lane just outside Exmouth. Took me a few minutes to find it in the car but once there it's lovely.
The showers and toilets are spotlessly clean (we even got dried flowers in the gents!) and the warden and her husband were very friendly and helpful. The partitions in the showers don't go all the way up and it's possible to look over if you're tall, but the warden was happy for self-conscious people (or those like me with a medical condition that often attracts stares) to use the disabled shower instead.
The field itself is well mown and the ground was soft for pegging out in; there is a bit of a slope to the field - enough to have us sliding down our air beds - but some of the pitches at the bottom of the field are more level than the non-electric ones in the centre of the field where we were.
There are sinks with hot water for washing up, powered from the same solar water heater as the showers - I was a bit sceptical but they come out really warm once they heat up, almost too hot at times. Washing up late in the evening was amusing since the motion sensor on the light by the sinks doesn't notice you standing still to wash pots - we had to dance about to make it come on again! There's also a toilet chemical disposal point and a freezer by the sinks.
The site is about 15 minutes walk from a really nice sandy beach, and it's another 15 minutes from there to the sea front which has some good chip shops and pubs and some seafront amusement places. If you can fit bikes on your car they'd be a great way to get to and from town; Exmouth town centre is about 40mins walk from the campsite or an easy drive, and there are a variety of shops including a co-op and a Millets for any last minute camping gear. There's a big Tescos on Salterton Road further out if you need more serious food.
It's worth booking if you're going at a busy time; I booked on the Monday to arrive on a bank holiday Friday, and got pretty much the last pitch going. Prices are good but I hadn't realised that the £5 per night they quote on the website is for one person - two and a tent on a pitch without EHU worked out at £10 per night. Great value for the location but I wish I'd worked it out sooner!
Note - I was told when I asked about booking this site that from next year (2012) the National Trust will be enforcing a rule that all groundsheets used on their campsites must be breathable. Worth knowing as I'll have to replace the living area groundsheet in my tent if I want to go back next year.

Super site, very quiet, everything we needed.
The site is 5 mins drive from the beach in 1 direction, 5 mins in the other direction is a large supermarket.
The site suited us, as we like quiet small sites.
Showers are free and hot water is solar heated (very green)
Small shop has mast things us blokes forget to buy at the supermarket
The couple that run the site were very welcoming and couldn't be more helpful.
We will return, and I must recommend.
Thanks Mary, for making our stay great!

We visited this site for 4 nights in August 2010 and found it to be the most wonderful campsite.
It feels like a little oasis.
The campsite itself is small but we liked that as it meant there weren't so many people there, it was more cosy.
The wash facilities were great. There was hot water all the time and considering this is solar powered I thought it was amazing.
Mary was great, and really friendly. I loved the bacon/sausage sandwiches she did in the morning - was greatly appreciated on one very rainy morning!
This site is an easy walk to the coast and in easy reach of a pub and local shops.

Booked by phone with Mary, no confirmation in post nor deposit requested; such a refreshing change to be trusted! Great site. Showers an experience; never been able to look over the top of a shower & have a conversation before!
The water was always lovely & hot. It was a great shame that there had to be a notice written up warning dog owners of dog poo.
Such a pity that the local pub was The Clinton Arms!

We have just returned from a great family holiday at this lovely campsite. We spent 9 very enjoyable nights there.
The site is in an ideal position for visiting many interesting places. There is also about a 20 minute walk to the beach and a footpath to the Coastal Path.
The nearby 24 hour large supermarket was very useful too.
We read the previous reviews and are pleased to say that there were no unsavoury smells from nearby while we were there.
Mary, the Warden, was very helpful and made us feel most welcome.

Site warden comments
We just wanted to update our campers with new information with the problems we have experienced with the local sewerage plant.
We are now in regular contact with the site manager and at our request they have installed an extra filter. We have had no problems since (for over 5 weeks)so we can be fairly confident that this problem has been resolved.
We really value our campers comments and are always quick to solve any problems. We look forward to welcoming you to Prattshayes!

Just returned from 4 night stay. Thoroughly enjoyed it - facilities are excellent re: washing up, freezer, showers very good but only draw back is no plugs (for phone charging) and the 20p Hairdrier was cold - so best use the hand drier with your head upside down!
I really liked this campsite - it was neat & Tidy and they even provide barbeques to use. The directions were spot on as we found it really easily.
I didn't like the Clinton Arms (the nearest pub- was geered up for kids and families) - 5 mins walk down the country lane - but if you walk in opposite direction turning right when leaving the campsite it is a 10 minute walk to Exmouth Seafront.
I liked this and the fact that we could drive to Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth, Beer and Seaton really easily (all lovely places to visit). This site is very good and I highly recommend it (if you can charge your phone in car or don't mind about the hairdrier!)
