Just stayed at this campsite for the weekend with my husband. It was quite full which was no surprise considering the weather and the fact it was half-term. Even so, we still had plenty of room around the pitch.

We stayed on the lower field as our tent was too big to go in the woods. There are pleasant views of the forest and surrounding fields where the sheep/horses graze.

The toilet block is minimal. Just two toilets each for men and ladies each with their own sink. There are no other sinks for brushing teeth which means you do have to wait a bit longer when there's a queue but even though the site was full, I only had to wait twice, for about 5 minutes. I always had loo roll in my pocket as it frequently ran out. There are two ladies and two mens' showers and one sink for washing up. The bins were overflowing by the end of the weekend but it was no big deal to us as they are away from the camping area.

The village was a 5 minute walk away with a pub and a church, nothing else! The pub food was lovely and the house ale also good. Main courses were £8-£10 which I thought was reasonable for the location and we definitely got our money's worth.

The next nearest village is Hawkshead which is 4 miles away. It took about 10-15mins by car (mainly as I am not accustomed to the country roads!) The car park there is pay and display (£1.50 one hour/£2.60 two hours). There are plenty of souvenir shops, pubs, cafes, a post office and a co-op.

As mentioned by other reviewers, the campsite owner/farmer is a lovely chap. He will chat if you want to or leave you alone if you don't. He sells bags of logs for £3 each. We found we needed two to keep a fire going all night. It seems you can make a fire wherever you want either using a fire basket from the farmer (we didn't get one so I don't know how much) or just by making a circle of stones from previous fires.

To sum up it is very relaxed and basic camping out in the sticks. Perfect!

Just stayed at this site, had the most excellent weekend, Arthur the campsite owner is the best I have met so far, nothing is too much trouble for him. I camped with 5 friends, though there was lots of familys too.

Open fires seem to give the site a really chilled out relaxed feel, we bought a bag of eco logs for £7 that lasted us the weekend. Although there isn't a massive amount of toilets / showers we never had to wait even though the site was brimming, they where always kept clean and tidy.

There is also a lovely stream through where children where paddling and a very short walk to where you can swim under a waterfall.

Will be returning next week with my son for a few days! cant praise this site enough, especially at £6 per person with no extras. Ace.

A wonderful camp site in between Coniston and Windermere. Basic, clean facilities and a friendly owner. Camp fires are allowed on this site and the logs / kindling costs just £2.50 a bag, which should last you a couple of nights or there is a eco friendly fuel which burns for longer available for £7.50 a bag. At the back of the site there is a wood where smaller tents can be pitched.

This site also offers small log huts for those not too keen on staying in a tent and a Mongolian Yurt which sleeps up to 8.

There is lots to do in the local area with the Forestry Commission visitor centre and Go Ape activity centre where you can hire cycles, about a mile away. There in an excellent family friendly pub, The Eagles Head, about 1/4 of a mile down the road, it seems expensive but the food and service is of high quality, the portions are generous and the locally brewed ales are fantastic.

The fees were reasonable at £6pnpp.

This camp site offers a genuine and enjoyable camping experience and I will be staying there again asap.

My husband,I and our two kids aged 9 and 12 have just returned form the site and had a wonderful time, it is remote, safe and basic, just like a real camping trip should be.

The farmer arthur is lovely, very busy though, as he runs a working farm but always has time to stop. Wood and eco logs are available for campfires, the eco logs are very good £7.50 for a large bag and that lasted a day and night, burning well.

Facilities are very basic but its enough, scenery amazing, campsite clean and you have the extra option of camping up in the wood! We are definitely returning very soon, Grizedale forest park is well worth a visit too.

We have stayed at this site few times, although the facilities are minimal as we know this time we found them unclean. This is the 1st time we stayed during the week & the toilets & showers were not cleaned once. We constantly had to ask for loo roll. The hot water was temperamental & when it came on it was so hot it nearly took the skin off our hands (so don't send the kids to wash up) the light in one (disabled) loo wasn't working so at night it was pitch black.

Arthur usually comes round in the evening with logs but there was none of that & the only logs he had & to go & get ourselves were eco ones at £7.50 a sack. It seemed a shame but as full paying customers we didn't get the same service as if staying at the weekend definitely wont be returning at £17.00 pound a night for a family of four.

I have just returned from a brilliant 4day stay at grizedale campsite. This is the second time I have visited this campsite with a group of friends and we have all enjoyed it both times.

Arthur is excellent and you couldn't ask for anyone more helpful the facilities on the campsite(showers, toilets, washing up area) are great and were cleaned regularly.

The best thing about this campsite is been able to have a bbq and sit around a campfire at night.

I recommend a trip to go-ape whilst visiting this area and there is lots of lovely villages like hawkshead and windermere to also visit. This campsite also caters for those not so adventurous campers as there is pods in the woods which I still have to experience yet but they were very popular this weekend especially with the weather conditions (rain and lots of mud!).

This campsite is definitely worth visiting and I know I will definitly be visiting again in the summer!

This is a great site - been here at various times of the year both with the OH and kids and without. Arthur is an ideal campsite owner, helpful but not overbearing.

The biggest plus for this site is that if you have a small tent you can pitch in the woods and have a fire - camping as it should be. (Fires also OK in main field)

Yes it does not have huge numbers of loos / showers but apart from very busy times the facilities are adequate and always clean.

Pub in Satterthwaite is excellent - good beer, good food, roaring fire.

We stayed here for 5 nights and paid 12Pounds for 2 persons with a car and a 4-person tent. No extra fee for the showers. Very reasonable. While it is located in the Lake District, the real nice peaks and hiking tours are out of walking reach; you have to take the car. It was recommended to us to pitch tent near the fence since the middle of the field was soaked and more rain expected. Of course, it is a working farm - but to look through barbed wire.

The dish washing room had plenty of space and hot water. But unfortunately this room had space just for one. So on the week-end you had to queue.

The toilets were so-so. There was only one cabin for men; no wonder that they became bit dirty after a while. The toilet roll was simply put on the water container, from where it fell down on the wet floor. A simple roll holder would be a real improvement. A few hooks and shelfs at the sinks would be nice too.

Showers: there was only a tiny space before you entered the shower tub, and only one hook. Where to put your clothes, towel, fresh underwear etc? Mine, of course, fell to the dirty ground. Especially when the light went out. That has to do with all the movement sensors they have instead of switches. The sensor only senses movements in the public entrance area. So hurry up showering, or you find yourself wet and soaped in darkness, without the possibility to swith it on again. (As far as I noticed, such sensor controly the lights even in the loo.)

Enough complain! It is very nice camp site and great value for money. We enjoyed our stay.

We arrived on the friday evening of Aug bank holiday weekend. The directions off the website were clear and the site was well sign posted. We were advised by Arthur to pitch our tent in the wooded area behind the farmhouse. Good advice as the ground was very very wet, by monday the units on the field at the front of the buildings were virtually floating.

Still most people seemed to take the poor weather in their stride.

The toilets etc were cleaned every day and Arthur was very helpful and accommodating. I never had to queue although people were having to wait for the sink to wash up in.

The site is in a great area with plenty of walks straight from the site.

We had a dog with us and she had a whale of a time walking in the forest. Plus the pub down the road happily let 2 rain soaked adults and 1 bedraggled dog in for a lovely evening meal.

We are hoping to go back when the snow arrives to stay in one of the pods.

Loved it! Gorgeous pitch in the woods above the farm with amazing views over the fields (saw buzzards daily)

Little bit of a walk to the toilets and showers which can get very busy at peak times but we are early risers so we had no problems.

Closest pub is a few minutes walk from the site, reasonably priced and even sells ice creams cones for the walk back!

Hawkshead village is a hidden gem imo with great pubs and loads of shops to wander round and windermere was very easy to access with the ferry only being £3.50.

Arthur the owner is a really nice helpful man who nothing is too much trouble!
