We, my husband & 2 kids, have just returned from Grizedale after spending 2 nights. This site is in beautiful surroundings. There is a stream alongside where the kids enjoyed splashing around. Obviously the fantastic weather made it so good. The owner comes round about 6pm to offer kinder & logs currently at £3 for logs & £2 for kinder. The downside is that because everyone has got a fire going you can't seem to escape the smoke. I would agree with another post that a 'bucket' is essential to avoid the morning queue for the toilet.
The pub down the road has a nice sized beer garden. Will definitely recommend and hopefully would return there again. We paid £6 per adult per night & £2.50 per child per night. We loved it, thank you.

Just got back from a fabulous stay at Bowkerstead farm. This is the second time I've been and myself and my friends were not disappointed!

This time we stayed in the wooded area which we were apprehensive about when booking but pleasantly surprised upon arrival. It was a lovely quiet area that seemed to be populated by other couples who were happy to sit out and bbq on the open fires until late, just as we were.

The facilities are very clean and Arthur is very good at re-stocking the toilet paper when it runs low! Within the surrounding area there is a pub and then a bit further on is Go Ape and the Grizedale forest. We drove a bit further out and did the Hellvellan mountain hike which was difficult but very enjoyable!

We had a great chat with Arthur on our last day about the newly installed pods which look fantastic and are highly recommended for the colder months!

We will definitely be going back here and we 100% recommend it!

This place is heaven, a truly great place, the facilities are spotless the site is fantastic.

Arthur the owner and his family are the friendliest people ever nothing is too much trouble. The field which we stayed on was brilliant! with places to have a fire, benches to sit on, Arthur delivering wood to your tent at very very reasonable prices, nobody telling you to be quiet at 10:30, generally just being able to do what you want.
There are lots of things to do, plenty of tracks to follow, and a great little pub(Eagles Head) about 10 mins walk serving real ales and serving excellent food, the landlord and his staff are extremely friendly and the service is second to none.

All in all this place is what we have been looking for for years a good traditional family campsite were you can really enjoy yourselves.

Just come back from a 3 night visit here over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

We did have a lovely time and would return again but would feel one or two things should be mentioned to forearm you before you go.

The facilities are as such - 2 showers each for men and ladies. 2 toilet cubicles with sinks for ladies and one toilet cubicle and urinals for men. This caused some trouble on a morning as the only sinks to wash in were in the toilets, resulting in lots of hanging around for the toilet for some. I would seriously suggest making sure you take a 'bucket' if any one in your party needs to go in a hurry!

Also recommend taking your own loo roll with you as this is not secured to the wall allowing little pranksters to drop the roll down the toilet at will, which was apparently a source of great fun to someone this weekend as I rarely found a dry one when I visited!

Washing up facilities also consist of one solitary sink so a lot of waiting around for that too.

Having said that the pluses far out weighed the minus and the ability so sit around a warm fire on the cool evenings outside your tent was lovely. The toilet facilities are right in the middle of the farmyard so while your doing all that hanging around you can visit the newborn lambs. Pony trekking at £10 for a very long 'half hour' is a great way of amusing the kids while you pack up the tent.

Stayed a single night on the 24th Oct - just as well as The Lakes were badly flooded the day after.

This is a great site and we'll be back again. Arthur the owner/farmer is the most friendly and helpful man there is. The pitches are nice and flat, the roads are well maintained - if you stay on them, you shouldn't get stuck in the mud. As others have said, there are many small areas set aside for camp-fires and a couple were lit the night we stayed.

The toilet and shower facilities are spotless.

The site is a little off the beaten track even for drivers but it's worth the trip. Lots of one-lane hilly roads - don't bother setting your SatNav for the postcode, easiest way is to set it for Satterthwaite and you'll see the campsite entrances about 1/2 a mile away from Satterthwaite village.

We popped to the Eagle in Satterthwaite. I was there with my two lads 8 and 6 and we had a great welcome from the staff and other visitors and a truly excellent meal for a reasonable prices. The Guinness was on form too.

Want to try the pods next time we visit.

We stayed in one of the newly installed pods, it was a great novelty and much appreciated as the weather was not wonderful on the first night. Though we spent a nice (but showery evening around a large camp fire) Our second day was CRACKING, the sun came out and we had a glorious day. We took advantage of the horse riding facilities and had a half hour ride.

The pods themselves were great though it was a bit of trek to get to the top of the hill though we were all a lot fitter by the time we left. It was cold but being October it was somewhat expected. The farmer was really helpful and is pondering heaters in the pods which would make out of season camping a little more comfortable in the pods.

The facilities were spotless and well maintained and to say I really really enjoyed myself is an understatement. Five stars. Will be returning.

We travelled to this site from Grizedale Visitor Center and found that the entrance to the farm was over a narrow stone bridge. Our motorhome would not fit without damage. We continued along the road and found there was another entrance along an unmade bumpy track.

On arrival at the farm there was no one about. So we parked the van on some hardstanding among farm vehicles. We walked up to where the tents were. Again the motorhome would not fit through the entrance gap in the wall. We wandered around the farm and could not find any hard standing (as mentioned in Out and About Magazine's article).

When we located the farmer he told us that the only hardstanding was where we were parked, the usual place for motorhomes was on a field that was currently too wet for us to attempt.

I do not think this is a suitable location for motorhomes.

Loved this site, facilities are kept spotless and even though as others have mentioned there is only one sink for washing up when the farmer saw us waiting he let us use his sink in his utility room. There is also a baby changing facility in one of the toilets which was a god send for us with a toddler.

The camping field was lovely and you can also camp in the woods surrounding the campsite, not possible for us with a toddler but I imagine great fun for those with older children or without children.

We went to the local pub for lunch, I personally thought it was pricey for what you got but I suppose that is the lakes for you.

Walks around the surrounding forest are stunning.

The farmer is a lovely helpful man who goes out of his way to ensure you have a good stay and we are planning another trip here this year.

Stayed here for 4 nites in a large tent. All together there were 21 of us, in 6 tents on the Saturday night, to celebrate my birthday.

We were able to group the tents pretty close together with a firepit and bench in the middle.

It you want peace, quiet and to get back to nature, this is the site for you. The toilet/shower facilities are pretty basic, but clean and well maintained. It can be quite a walk(we were on far side of field next to a stream)to the loos and washing up facilities, and was a bit muddy in places.

Basically this is a huge flat field, surrounded by trees and hills and stunning scenery. There are sheep, horses, birds and other wildlife close by. There isn't a play area but the kids had a great time daming up the stream and playing on a rope swing, and we were able to keep our eye on them from a distance.

The firepits are great and we didn't even have to buy logs as there was lots of free wood around.

There is a pub within easy walking distance but we arrived 5 minutes past 8 o'clock and they had stopped serving food and the barman was quiet abrupt with us, so we didn't actually stay for a drink.

Lots of beautiful walks and drives around the area and nice villages and towns to visit. We especially enjoyed the quaint Laurel and Hardy museum in ULverston. Also Go Ape! outdoor activity centre is just up the road, which is a fab day out for the more adventurous.

Lovely, basic site, farmer/owner really nice and friendly, this is real camping!

There are also Camping Pods available, which sleep 4 (I think), and I am told by a friend of mine that they are good value for money and very comfortable.

This was my third visit this year. The weather was really poor on Friday with torrential rain over night. Our tent held up while unfortunately the other two tents in our party didn't fair quite so well. I was expecting to be under 2 inches of water but was surprised to see the ground was just wet, not water logged. In fact, the weather did a complete change for the Saturday and cracked the flags!

The owner was more than helpful all weekend. The facilities, although small, are always very clean and stocked up with the essentials! The ability to have a camp fire even helped dry my clothes out.

Even with poor weather it was really busy. But there is plenty of space in the bottom field to accommodate every one. Plus everyone was really friendly and helpful.

A definite must try, for a long weekend at least!
