Have been to this site several times now and think it is a gem of a place. You don't have to book and prices are very reasonable. They also allow open fires to be lit around the site and it is a beautiful thing to see of an evening while you sit around drinking a bottle or two. Yes, this site could benefit from the building of showers in order to make longer stays more comfortable and maybe they will do in the future. On the occasions that I have been there has been at least one occasion on each visit that one group or another have ruined a good nights sleep by sitting up laughing and joking without showing the slightest of consideration for anyone else. I have 2 things to say to these people. Don't get the hump if you don't get a lie in through playing children and please don't claim, as you have already done on this site that that is what Steeple Leaze is all about. IT IS NOT. If you want to get drunk and be loud, go to a night club. Steeple Leaze could do without you. Your behaviour could be the undoing of this site.

The site is in a picturesque setting although you have got to be prepared to rough it a bit. There are no showers or hot water. The toilets aren't particularly pleasant, never saw them being cleaned & tried my best not to use them.
The grass it quite long & a lot of it is uneven ground but did find somewhere reasonably flat.
There is a tent cafe on site which did quite a nice breakfast (although not that cheap) & the menu for dinner did look quite nice.
A walk across the fields took you to Kimmeridge beach where its a good place to hunt for fossils.
They don't take bookings you just turn up & pitch where you like & the owners drive round in the evening to collect payment & also sell logs & kindling.
We could hear music playing into the small hours but it didn't bother us at all & because we were a larger group quite liked the fact that there wasn't lots of rules about noise etc.
It was ok for a different experience but not a patch on a lot of other sites I have stayed on, not sure I would go back again purely because of the lack of facilities.

Had a great four nights here last year. Lovely and peaceful. More than happy with the facilities. Some great walks in the area and within easy reach of loads of places.
Spent the first two nights with a mate who's a real urbanite, but even he loved it. Second two nights I was on my own, with nothing but a fire, a book and a kettle of tea for company. Two of the best nights I'd had in 2010.
There were a few kids on the site when I was there with what looked to be experienced camper parents.
I wouldn't recommend this site though for first time campers or families not used to basic facilities (a few toilets and cold running water).
Such a good time we hope to come down again next August.

I nipped down to Dorset for a quick one nighter during the heatwave to discover my usual campsite was full up. After trying a few we managed to get onto UKCampsite via iPhone and called, to which the owner told us there was loads of room.
Steeple Leaze consists of 3 huge fields and there must have been getting on for 200 tents there.
This site is very minimal on facilities. There are several toilets and a washing up room (no hot water when I was there). I only visit Dorset for short frequent stints due to being within 100 miles away. Because of this, no showers wasn't an issue. I do think though with the amount of people staying on the site surely they could stretch to at least porta-cabin showers.
All the fields have nice views of the surrounding Purbeck hills. The fields are generally very hilly but there are flatish bits to be found if you look for them.
Being allowed a camp fire is really nice and it really was relaxing when it finally got dark, watching shooting stars, satellites etc.
During the night there were a group of people the other side of the field making a racket until 1am. I am a night owl myself and usually sit up late watching video extremely quietly so they weren't keeping me or my friend awake, however, I felt extremely sorry for any families with kids near them. I would like to echo some of the other comments on here that the owner really needs to consider a separate area for big groups. Or he could have a families only field, depending on which demographic he wants to attract the most.
On summary, I think I am likely to return here but if it was for any longer than 2 nights I would go somewhere with showers. I also wouldn't recommend going with kids unless the owner does something about the noise.

Have just had a fab weekend at this farm nestled in the heart of Purbeck. We arrived with a choice of fields to camp in. Families and children and dogs all seeming happy. Real fires. Lots of space, views and big sky. Woods to explore. Bluebells and wild garlic abound other woodlands nearby.
A short walk uphill gave us a breathtaking view of Kimmeridge from the coastal path or ridgeway above. A bit of real peace and quiet. On the way back through the campsite we stumbled upon the gem of all gems. A marquee with a sign 'Travels with my aunt cafe open' We found a tent cafe serving tea, fresh coffee, hot chocolate and marshmallows. Papers and books were about to read and toys. After our walk back in the rain this was Heaven!
We discovered the cafe cooks local sourced full breakfasts for the morning and does a bring your own drink wine evening menu. My partner and I couldn't have asked for more as we hadn't shopped. We went along on Sunday evening and had a brilliant meal for a fiver. I had smoked mackerel with lime cous cous and an amazing beetroot sauce and salad. Great puddings too! No driving or queuing for a table in a pub. Amazing.
The farmer zooms about selling logs and the atmosphere is so friendly and calming as this is not a site for rowdy folk past 10 /11pm. Toilet facility is adequate. It is a working farm and ruined if it was commercial. Breakfast in the morning in the cafe tent was really cool as there was a portable record player playing a vinyl Nina Simone. Definitely going to return very soon.

Just got back from a rainy bank holiday weekend at this lovely campsite in Dorset. First time camping for a long time so nothing to compare it to.
It was tents in a field. Very reasonable price (£5 per night for me and £2.50 per night for each of the kids). We had a big 3 bedroom tent and there was no extra charge for all the space we needed.
The guy that pootled round on his truck to collect the money also sold wood and kindling for a camp fire which was really handy.
Reasonable number of people with musical instruments, all sat round their camp fires later on despite the cold so the sounds were lovely.
Fab bluebell woods with rope swings and trunks to climb as well as a stream for the kids to play in. Lots of walks to the beach and not far from Corfe Castle but we were very lazy and didn't do any of that!
We did, however, go into Poole (about 30 mins) to go to the massive cinema complex (Empire) and indoor water park (SplashDown - no pool just flumes). Doesn't quite fit with the back to basics camping but it was so wet and cold and the kids are quite little so it was worth the drive to keep them happy.
Basic facilities, only one toilet block as you drive in to the first of the 3 fields and cold water but who needs a shower on a long weekend. Take a bucket or other provision for the tent at night if you've got littlies or if you just don't fancy a late night trek.
Went to the Scott Arms at Kingston for dinner on Saturday night. Lovely food, lots of fresh fish specials on the menu. I had a great steak. £46 for four meals (3 adult and 1 childs) and soft drinks.
Apparently has lovely views (too cold for outside). Has a large patio / beer garden so if the weather is nice all the better.
We'll definitely go back, hopefully when the weather is better.

Don't even think of going to this campsite unless you enjoy roughing it. You'll need to sleep on a slope, hike a LONG WAY to the toilets with your own loo roll in hand, and cook up your own hot water to wash yourself or your dishes. Oh, and take your own bin bag and clear up your own rubbish. Meticulously, please.
If you can deal with it? You'll LOVE it, and so will your kids. This is has to be one of the UK's sites for people who like camping to be a bit hardy - camping like it used to be. Wander up the hill, past the sheep and you are onto a footpath that takes you down to Kimmeridge and Kimmeridge Bay. All you'll find is a farm shop, cream teas, and a marine visitor centre which will help to make your rockpooling more enjoyable and interesting. And a scattering of people who like their holidays by the sea to be clean, fresh and simple.

A great place, our family and friends have been going for years (nearing ten now) and we are steadily introducing an increasing number of people to the spot. Campsite is mellow and contrary to the posts below I know the farmer shuts down overly noisy people as I've seen him do it plenty of times, although there is certainly more latitude for parties at the weekend than in the week.
Fires are welcomed but not people who raid the woods, if you haven't brought any you can buy it from the campsite, often along with local eggs and sausages.A perfect combination.
Facilities are basic, toilets good and clean and washing facilities but no showers, good it keeps away the wrong sort of campers ;-)
The surrounding area just keeps you coming back with a walk from the campsite over the ridge to Kimmeridge bay as an easy option or many more secluded spots a little further away. A car is essential to make it to Wareham for the supermarket or to Swanage for a great sandy beach and opens up many more coves and bike riding locations.

Quiet site on a Sunday evening in early July. Plenty of space - will accommodate well in excess of the posted ten units. Basic but adequate facilities for a night or two - toilet blocks unspecified so assumed Gents was the one without mirror and washing-up sink! Pleasant change to find campfires acceptable. Convenient for visitors to the very popular 'deserted village' of Tyneham (check opening days - its still in the middle of an MOD firing range). View of Kimmeridge Bay from ridge above site - easier climb from far end of site than steep footpath from entrance and across Corfe 'River'. Site situated at the bottom of a hill - take particular care over humps especially if towing. Reasonable price (£5 pppn at time of our visit) compared with other sites in area. Ideal site for 'real' camping.

Have just returned from our second trip to Steeple Leaze Farm in five weeks, the first being over the second May Bank Holiday. The location of the site is stunning, with views of the Purbeck Hills on either side and you are only a short distance to the coastal path, which leads to many spectacular walks, including a short one to Kimmeridge Bay. Corfe Castle is a short drive or longish walk away and has a small convenience store and a few pubs.
The facilities on the site are very basic (no showers and only cold water) which we usually don't mind but they got extremely crowded and dirty when it was busy on Bank Holiday.
The big plus is being allowed to light your own fires, which the kids really enjoyed. This site has so many things going for it but.
On both occasions we have been there, huge groups of people, intent on partying virtually all night have turned up. On our most recent trip we were kept awake until 4am by unthinking revellers whose behaviour was totally inappropriate, especially when there are so many small children on site. I have noticed other reviewers complaining of this and suggest to the farmer that he might want to think about separating large groups from those who come to enjoy the spectacular location and some peace and quiet too!
