We got an electric pitch for 8 nights, very big pitch and reasonably priced to!
Toilets very clean and the showers were always very hot, which was great when you were coming back up off the beach.
There was 6 showers and 6 toilets which were never busy. Again dish washing facilities very clean, but were outside so it didn't go down to well if it was raining!
Lee meadow is about 5 mins away from the beach in the car, but car parking at the beach is about £6 - £7. Campsite was very quite on the night.
Also facilities for washing wetsuits ect. Owners were very friendly and helpful. There is no play ground, but this didn't really matter as the kitten and the other animals kept the kids amused!
will be definitely coming back to this campsite. Lots to do, great surfing beaches, a place called The Big sheep, have been there 3 times now and it never grows old, definitely worth a visit!

Have just returned from a wonderful week at Lee Meadow campsite in Devon. The site is situated a couple of miles inland between Ilfracombe and Woolacombe and is only a few minutes drive to each. We went with friends so booked 2 pitches with electrical hook-up.
On arrival we were given a choice of pitches and chose 2 in the top corner of the field. The pitches are huge; far bigger than any we've camped on previously and extremely good value for money (£23 per night for large tent, car, 2 adults & 2 children).
The facilities are quite basic, 2 toilet/shower blocks for women and 1 for men, which could use a bit of tweaking (only one cold tap worked in sinks /push taps always came on full force and soaked everything / needs external doors fitted to shower blocks to ensure more privacy and keep in warmth).
But they were always kept clean and the showers were free, and there was only one occasion when the water wasn't hot (early evening on a sunny day so lots of people showering after a day on the beach).
Never had to queue for showers, no matter what time of day. The washing up area is outdoors and uncovered, although this wasn't a problem for us as the weather stayed dry, but guess it wouldn't be much fun in wet weather.
The site is basically 2 large fields with the electric hook ups around the edge. There is no children's play area, but lots of space to run around and no restrictions on ball games etc, being played around the pitches.
The owners were really lovely and helpful. Our electric hook-up cable wouldn't work, so they loaned us one free of charge. They are very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and happy to offer advice.
There is a small fast food outlet, which sells chips, bacon sandwiches, etc and they sell ice-creams in the reception area and fresh eggs from the chickens kept on the farm.
A real bonus is being able to hire a metal fire-pit and buy logs to have campfire - it really added to the whole atmosphere. Everything is very relaxed on the site, and it never seemed overly busy or crowded.
It's a safe environment for the children to run around and have a bit of freedom, although our kids (9 & 7 yrs) did complain (half-heartedly) that a little playground area would have been good. I think this was more to do with having a general hanging out place where they could meet up and form friendships with other kids.
If you want a relaxed site with clean, basic facilities in a beautiful area then Lee Meadow is definitely the place. There is so much to do in the area (we didn't fit in half of what we'd have liked, probably because the weather was so good we spent several days on the beach).
We'll certainly be returning to the area and will be visiting the site again. The beaches at Woolacombe and Saunton are outstanding, beautiful clean sand and fantastic sand dunes (at Saunton) - we had a fantastic time bodyboarding for the first time.
The Big Sheep is a good day out for children up to about 12 (older kids would probably find it a bit boring).
Ilfracombe is such a pretty town and can recommend the cruises from the harbour to see seals and local birds. It was lovely after a full-on day out, to return to the site, cook up some food and spend the evening relaxing around the campfire!
All-in-all, a pretty idyllic week!

Visited the site with Family arriving at different times. Trudy could not be more helpful and got us all together, one with electric hook up all on one pitch - shows you how large the pitches are. Toilets, showers and dish wash area all clean, (Perhaps now need a little TLC ).
Very quiet site, sells fresh eggs, bottles water and this year has a small cafe outdoor) great for a snack. (Grand Son Loved the 'pink' icecreams).
Very central for surfing in Croyde or Woolacombe. Close to Ilfricombe and not too far to Barnstable. Weekly Market up the road which was ok as well. A dream to stay at.
Would recommend it to anyone who likes a site which is not commercialised. They also sell you wood and have half drums for 'camp fires' if you want to toast some mallows. Great for a visit and not too windy.

Thanks to the guys at lee meadow farm. They are really friendly and the place is well kept. It doesn't have a lot of facilities but it has all the important stuff. Clean showers, flat soft pitches, power hook ups and a good hedge to cut out the breeze.
They do food in the evening and in the morning from the cafe at a good price. It is also a lot better value than some of the others in the area. You also won't get stuck in a huge queue getting back to the main road. Loads better than the alternatives.
Good back to basics place.

This was our 4th visit to Lee Meadow campsite- we love it! Being local to Ilfracombe we find the site on our door step and to take the kids up there for a long weekend is ideal.
The camping area is big enough for the kids to play and run around without annoying the neighbours- Our dog was welcomed on a lead. The chickens there are a firm favourite with the kids especially finding there own eggs for breakfast! We can't wait to pitch up this year after seeing the owners in town to discover they have Alpaca's - mummies and babies!
The location is ideal- so peaceful on a summers evening watching another glorious sunset followed by a hot 'free' shower- and plenty of it.
For old school camping we recommend it.

It was really great to find a simple, cheap and quiet campsite in the middle of the summer holidays and this one is literally a 5 minute drive from Woolacombe beach
The owners were pleasant and easy going. They allow camp fires and barbecues. They told us they had only been given permission to open for four weeks over the summer holidays but they had obviously put a lot of effort into it as there were very clean toilets and showers, a wash up sink and even hanging baskets in what was basically just a field with a barn in it.
It was refreshing not to pay for all the unwanted facilities of a holiday park (when all we want to do is go to the beach!)
I paid £13 per night for a camper van with awning, 1 adult, 2 x children and a dog.
There were recycling facilities on site and electric hookup at the top edge of the field.
The only downside and its a big one is the mud.
It had rained for several days before we arrived and parts of the field were like a bog. My camper van got stuck twice which I found stressful and I didn't even attempt to try and park next to my awning after that.
The owners had a mini tractor thing which could tow you out if necessary, but I think some chippings or extra drainage for the future is a must.
Having said that I would go back so long as it is dry!

We've just returned from a 5 day stay on this campsite, which we stumbled on purely by chance. The showers & toilets were always clean, the water was hot. The owners were both friendly & helpful with a wealth of local knowledge. The location just off the B3234 half way between Woolacombe & Ilfracombe we found ideal for both shopping for supplies & surfing. We would not hesitate to revisit this site

The site had only been open for 3 weeks when we discovered it. The loos and showers (free) are excellent - clean, light and airy. We never had to queue and there seemed to be plenty of hot water. There is an efficient recycling 'hut' on the site - a delight to have plenty of space for paper, tin, glass, plastics and cardboard.
Matt and Trudy who run the site were very welcoming and Matt went to a lot of trouble cordoning off areas of the field that had become waterlogged. We did have a lot of rain so I think this was unusual and on rain-free days everything dried out remarkably quickly. We were pitched on the top edge of the field and had no problem with excess water or mud there at all. The pitches are very generous in size and our dog was welcome. The site was spacious and deliberately non-commercial.
Not surprisingly the site became busy over the Bank Holiday weekend. We would have appreciated some encouragement by the owners to cut out excessive noise after, say, 11.00, but in fact this wasn't a major problem.
You need to get in the car to find a shop but Ilfracombe is only 15-20 minutes away and the surrounding countryside and coast are gorgeous.
If you're looking for a reasonably priced, non-commercial site with good clean basic facilities, I'd certainly recommend Lee Meadow.

Had a great week a beginning of August despite the weather. Great to find a very non commercial site so close to Woolacombe.
The pitch was bigger than average and the price was only £10.00 per night. The free Showers were really hot at all times of the day and toilets were new and lovely and clean.
The owners were always friendly and available for any local info if required.
Fantastic views some fields even have a sea view.
Some extra washing up sinks would be good as there was only 1.
Friends children thought local beach fantastic and being so close to the cycle path was great.
Enjoyed our stay so much returned for August Bank Holiday weekend with some friends who fell in love with it too!
Can't wait for August 09 to go again!
