After reading some previous reviews I was really surprised to find bad comments. We have just returned from our third visit to the Drum Inn, it is ideally situated about 10 minutes from the channel tunnel and find it a great stop over.
We have never had a problem with dog mess on the site and similarly we have never found accessing the site to be an issue either, we have quite a large van too.
We travelled with friends but we arrived later as we had tyre trouble on route. Our friends explained that we would be late and we still needed the pitch (which we had pre-booked much earlier in the year)the owners said that it was not a problem and they would never give a booked pitch away which was very reassuring.
We eventually arrived and were shown to our pitch in the pouring rain by the owner (we stayed dry in the car!).
We didn't use the showers this time but they have been updated since we last used them and have been told that they are £1 for ten minutes which we thought was fairly reasonable.
Our pitch was £18 a night which we also thought was reasonable and this included electric hook up.
Although we didn't eat in the pub this year, on previous visits we have enjoyed good food and drink and have been more than happy.
We will definitely be using this site again as will our friends and we would recommend it as a great little stop over for the channel tunnel.

Well my mother always said if you haven't got something good to say keep quiet so with that in mind I should shut up but I will share my views all the same! I think this is the first negative review I have ever written on any campsite.
I have read previous reviews and to be honest the hill is not too bad but I am afraid there ends the positive comments.
We arrived and were given a hard standing pitch the power supply connection and switch was in a terrible condition with the on off switch not functioning. For £18 per night the site is not well equipped, with a single unisex toilet block with see through slats in the toilet doors. You tend to end up with a queue of people waiting. Trust me they don't have to stare to share the moment with you! The showers cost an additional £1 for 10 mins. I felt this was steep given how basic the site was.
We went into the bar and ordered a pint of kronenburg, a gin and tonic, a coke and a fruit shoot and this came to £12.40 I found this to be very expensive.
We went to bed at 11.00 as we had driven 14 hours down from Aberdeen, at 07:00 we were awoken to a lorry being unloaded of scrap wood outside our motorhome. It would appear that the owners are using the back of their bar as a waste facility!
The campsite has signs everywhere stating dogs must be on a maximum of a 3m lead. However given the pack of 5 staffordshire bull terriers the owners seem to let run around everywhere cocking their legs on tents and motorhomes this seems to just apply to the campers.
I hate having to write a review like this because I always try to see the positive in every site especially when on annual leave. But I am sorry to say this site was a terrible disappointment.
The only positive being that it is extremely close to The Channel Tunnel for crossing over to France.

We had not been booked in despite phoning 2 weeks before, and wrong information given about meal times by this member of staff. This misinformation led to rude reception this time from landlady/tenant. Dog dirt on field as usual. Still clean toilets, (get advice on paying for shower, the coin-in-slot is not near shower) still great location near the Tunnel, but we won't be returning there again, sadly.

Stayed overnight before getting an early morning ferry as it is ideally located. Very helpful welcome. As our unit is just under 9m we had to park in the car park as there was no way it would go up the ramp that leads to the camping area.
The ramp is a real issue for a long unit or combination and if you have a look on Google maps you will see how small the car park is.
Organised the electric hook up for us, and we had enough water so didn't need to get a supply into the car park. Facilities all clean but I couldn't find the light switch, (my wife did!). Food in the pub was good and the service swift and friendly. Selection of hand pull beers on the counter, which helped me get a good nights sleep!
The Drum is just off the motorway so it is perfect for the overnight before the 15 minute drive to the ferry. We will use it again if we can get in the car park but I wonder if the pitch fee is a bit steep to stay in a carpark and spend money in the pub, but may be that is just me.

This is our 2nd visit to this site, (1st review). We use it after coming across on the Tunnel. The hosts are very helpful, and, when we arrived this time, the weather had been very rainy and most of the grass was wet. But they have hard standing, and are increasing it, we were well catered for including electric hook-up. The beer was good, and we were offered choice even though vegetarian, and the meal was excellent. Our dog was made welcome, and we were shown walks across fields in the summer. We will be back!

A very good site for going to or coming from Dover just 20 minuets from the port. A small 5 van site with electrics that also takes tents.
The pub is very handy if you don't want to cook the beer is ok Very nice landlords although we didn't use them we had a look in the toilet block and it's nothing fancy but it's clean.
The M20 is close but you don't get much noise from it, you may get the local flying club buzzing the area but nothing to worry about
At £18 per night it's expensive off season the good thing was the log fires. However the journey time to Dover is only half an hour so I guess they can charge over the odds
A shopping centre is not far away Sainsbury's have a petrol station but it's not cheap
One word of warning they have reduced the access route off the car park so if you have a long unit the exit down a steep ramp is difficult as you cant use the full car park to line up your rig my off side foot scrapped along the ground because of the tight turn

We booked this site to stay before our Euro Tunnel crossing and on our return journey 2 weeks later. We arrived late on a very busy Friday night and found that the staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed for a full day before our evening crossing at no extra charge. We had a lovely meal on both occations. Toilets and shower were unsex and basic but in all clean. Took less that 15 mins to get to the Euro Tunnel. Would use again and would recomened to others as was so convenient. The pub had some nice real ales and ciders just to make the visit perfect.

Stayed at the beginning of august a tent for 4 nights and enjoyed every minute of it.
All staff were friendly helpful beyond my expectations.
I spoke to the landlord of the pub who said the campsite has just been awarded 3 stars by British tourist board (visit England) well done and well deserved.
In general great campsite, great pub, great food & great camping facilities.
Will be returning

We had a one night stay at the Drum Inn on the 4th August 2012. The caravan site is in the grounds of a public house. There is a steep access road with a risk of grounding for larger units. There is a good size camping field but this is underneath an electric pylon. The unisex toilets and shower were not as clean as we would have liked, plenty of high level cobwebs. The shower had to be paid for but wasn’t working correctly. The pitch sizes varied trees generally showed the pitch limits, tree roots could be a problem for pegging out an awning On the pitch we had it wasn’t possible to park the car by the caravan without using some of the space on the neighbouring pitch. The pub advertises meals, we had booked over 9 months previously, a group of 5, 3 adults and 2 children. We expected to be in the restaurant but were shown to a table in the pub and waited, after a while I asked for service and was told to wait. After a further wait I enquired again and was told to order off the blackboard. Other customers that arrived after us had waitress service and were served before us. We had waited nearly an hour before our meals were served, by which time one of the children, a 4 year old boy, had fallen asleep and couldn’t eat his meal. When asked if everything was OK there was a bad attitude by the waitress when we said we were very unhappy. The meal was basic pub grub. We left after our meal not wanting to stay for a drink, the landlord came to our unit and accused me of not paying for the meal, I had the receipt but told him to check his facts before making wild accusations. He returned and offered compensation with a slight and begrudged apology. I said I wasn’t interested. He mentioned charity and I agreed to take his offer and remit it to Manchester Children’s hospital.
Of the sites I have stayed at I have only written positive reviews for sites I have really enjoyed, generally if things haven’t been so good I haven’t made a review.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our way to France, we arrived late on Friday evening and spent the next day in historic Canterbury (12 miles)before leaving early the next day for the Eurotunnel
Which was only 15 mins drive away.
Lovely grassy site with trees and shrubs at rear of a lovely old 18th century pub. Clean, well looked after toilet & shower.
We had a meal on Saturday evening, fantastic home cooked food, friendly service and not over priced.
We liked it so much we stayed again for 2 nights on our way home 2 weeks later and had a day in Dover Castle (14 miles)well worth a visit!
Again a lovely meal, the only downside was the rude family who brought a tired crying 3 year old into the pub at 7pm and then constantly complained to the poor waitress that he had fallen asleep before their meal and they had to hold him while they ate. The staff were brilliant and tolerated their horrible rude behaviour (don't think I would have been so tolerant in their shoes).
Overall - fantastic site!
