We have just returned early from a stay at Trevayne farm. The main reason being the field for the tents was an absolute quagmire. I appreciate that it has been raining for months, so anywhere we went would be boggy, but the field appeared to have no drainage with lots of waterlogged areas. It got so bad after a few days of being pitched that the water started to come up through the tent floor. Also, the mud absolutely stank of cow dung, which was horrendous inside the tent

The campsite itself was in an amazing location - although the website says that there are sea views from Tenby field, we feel this is stretching it a bit! Unless you are standing on top of your car, there are very few pitches that you can see the sea. It also seems to cater for the caravans over tents as all the best pitches (with sea views) are for caravans only.

The beach at Monkstone is stunning and well worth the trip down. It took us 10 minutes to get down and 20 minutes to get back up and this was with a 3 and 5 year old (who managed the hike back up well)

The biggest gripe about the site is the toilet and shower block. Being 'open air' made visits there very unpleasant in the horrible weather we had. I can imagine that they are OK to use in hot sunny weather, but it was hideous on cool windy days. We really could not understand why they thought open air facilities are a good idea in Wales! There were a couple of showers that were indoors on the caravan areas, but they were very much in need of updating as they were dark and neglected. Having said this, the facilities were always spotlessly clean

The staff on site were very helpful and the shop was well stocked.

There is also a Londis just up the road which is about a 15 minute walk or two minutes in the car which has a good selection of goodies and the staff here were extremely polite and helpful

It is a very easy walk or drive to Saundersfoot, which had some great restaurants and pubs - we loved the Royal Oak which had great food and we could take the dog into the bar area - a must in the rainy weather at the moment. In fact there were many pubs in the area that were happy to have children and dogs which was a real bonus.

Trevayne Farm is a fantastic base and there are loads of great things to see and do in the area. If you can put up with the al fresco washing area (and go when it is drier) it would be a great place to stay. Unfortunately for us, these facilities have put us off returning

What a cracking little site. Easy to find from the main roads but so far away from them all you hear is the birds and the sea all day.

Great for kids as it is a working farm so the chickens are friendly and just love cream crackers!

Toilet facilities are a bit basic and could do with an uplift but all work and are clean.

It is a little bit of a effort to the beach down a track and some steps etc, but well worth it. Bring a canoe, inflatable best, as if you can get it down to the beach, you can paddle round to to Tenby or Saundersfoot as we did, which was great fun.

Tenby is lovely, Saundersfoot smaller scale but nice. Fish and chips is a must too.

Overall, great place for the first few days of our Welsh tour in our new motorhome. Great place to start

We chose this site because of the location, and mostly because of the footpath to the beach (which we never saw in the end!). We tried phoning several times prior to arrival, but could not get a response, so decided to go anyway and take a chance knowing that there are loads of sites in the area and we would be able to get in somewhere if not here.

We arrived early evening to find they closed as early as 5. 30pm, and a notice on the door said to find a pitch and come see us in the morning. We walked through the site first to find a pitch, and as directed on the notice we first tried the Monkstone field, with the sea view, which was very nice and neatly trimmed and tidy but alas full up, so we then walked to the Croft field, where there were some pitches, but the whole field was under an inch of water and other tourers were complaining of an inch of water in their awnings!

We luckily found a vacant hard standing pitch, although the van overhung and the jack pads sank into the watery grass about 3' and wanted to go more, and in the morning went to settle up for the three nights we wanted to stay. We were told we could not have the hard pitch and we would have to move to the waterlogged field. We said that we would love to stay on the hard pitch, but if they intended to move us onto the waterlogged field, then we would rather not stay, and I offered to pay whatever their going rate was for the hard standing pitch.

They began being very rude and eventually suggested that we leave anyway, but not without first having a real go at us, just because we had stated that we didn't wish to be sited in a flood. We didn't blame them for the rain, but with better drainage, the site would be more desirable. This is Wales after all, so drainage should be the main priority!

If I can try to be objective about the site in general though, the Monkstone field is really lovely, and the views are amazing. The Croft field was mostly full of seasonal pitches, all with high grass growing around the vans, it did look very untidy, and the track was severely potholed and the rain had made the field flooded almost all over. The weather is not their fault, as they clearly pointed out, but the drainage is their responsibility.

I didn't use the facilities, but my wife and kids did, and they said they were quite adequate, and the open air thing was quite novel. There was only one water tap, a long trek from our pitch, and serving many pitches.

Over all, I would never visit this site again, despite the great location. They clearly have no customer service ethic and no people skills at all. We wished that the real owners of the farm were about to see how their customers were being treated. Poor show all round mostly due to the teenage staff running the place.

We are new to caravaning so we, two adults, a toddler and our dog, booked a bank holiday break in Tenby. The site was easy to find but the lane is a bit narrow in places, we just squeezed past an oncoming car.

Staff in reception were helpful and directed us to our pitch. We were in croft field which was level, all grass but with no views. The grass was really wet given the rain we have had. The big problem for us was we couldn't find our pitch. They are only marked on jockey wheel slabs so we had to ask a few people and keep jumping out to look.

The site was pretty full being a bank holiday but all was quiet by 10 pm.

Facilities were generally very good, open plan fairly modern shower blocks. Two problems. I never did find the grey water point, spent 10 minutes looking for it with a fellow traveller. Had to use a drain in the wash area. Secondly, the toilets at the end of the day were filthy. The wife told me the ladies were fine but the gents showed definite signs of use, if you see what I mean. Why no toilet brush so people can clean up after themselves? Showers were warm and clean.

Would we go back- yes, but would hope to see signs marking pitches and the toilets cleaned more than once a day.

We stayed here the weekend it opened for the season, what a stunning location. We chose to pitch in the Monkstone field which has great sea views, we could identify all the beaches along the coast and even see Worms Head. You could pitch where you wanted in the non ehu section. No extra charges for dogs or awnings.

The beach is down a lot of steps and is a bit rocky at the bottom of these, it is a nice beach and worth a visit.

We walked to both Saundersfoot and Tenby along the coast path, there are only a few sections of the path that are near the edge of the cliffs. Saundersfoot is an easier walk and a bit shorter although we preferred Tenby.

The toilets were clean and had soap and paper towels in both blocks. There are recycling facilities near the entrance and plenty of bins on site.

The staff at reception were really friendly when booking in.

When we arrived here it was rather windy so we decided to pitch in the tenby field at the bottom where it was more sheltered. There were no views of the bay from here unlike the top of the field which had lovely views.

We were one of only about 6 tents pitched in that field. The winds really picked up later on and we spent a very scary night in gale force winds. At daylight the next day we got up to see that two tents nearest to us were destroyed!

I wasn't keen on the open style toilets as they were draughty and had quite a few spiders camping out there. Also, the mens were deep cleaned everyday whilst the womens were only cleaned once in 4 days. The showers were hot though.

There are some lovely walks from the site, but they are steep and/or uneven and therefore not suitable for all.

It is close to Tenby, Saundersfoot etc. There is a spar type shop nearby and a nice butchers in Saundersfoot.

Just spent a week at Trevayne Farm and had a great time.

On arrival, the staff weere friendly and helpful. We were told to pitch wear we liked in Tenby field provided we left 5 metres between pitches. This seemed to work really well with everyone nicely spaced even though it was busy.

The new toilet/shower block was excellent but being open to the elements took some getting used to. Toilets and showers were always clean and there was plenty of hot water. The only downside was that you had to keep pushing the button for the showers every few seconds. A slightly longer time would be better.

The beach is well worth the many steps it takes to reach. It is probably the nicest beach in the area.

And I would definitely recommend the bacon and eggs on sale in the shop. So much nicer than supermarket stuff.

Just returned from a week at Trevayne Farm.

On arrival we were given a map and told that we could camp anywhere in the Tenby field provided that we were at least 4 metres away from any other tent.

There was plenty of room when we arrived and we had no problems finding a suitable spot.

Despite the freedom to pitch anywhere, it seemed as though people had organised themselves into rows allowing easy vehicle access to pitches. This worked well until later in the week when a large party arrived and pitched their tents between the rows, they also pitched very close to other tents despite there being plenty of room.

A little more direction from the owners on where to pitch would have helped.

As mentioned by others, this site is quite exposed and can get very windy so you need to make sure that your tent is well pitched and properly pegged down.

The shower block and pot washing facilities in the Tenby field were perfectly adequate but a few more hooks in the shower cubicles would be handy.

The site has apolicy of no noise between 10. 00pm and 8. 00am. This seemed to be very well observed when we were there.

The site shop is small but sells the basics of bread, milk, bacon, eggs, etc. And you can also order your daily newspaper if you wish.

Freezer blocks can be frozen for a charge of 50p.

We didn't visit the nearest beach so can't comment on that but the beach at Saundersfoot has easy access and wasn't too busy.

The Royal Oak in Saundersfoot is good for an evening meal and the staff were friendly towards our two young children. You may need to book in advance at the weekend.

If visiting Tenby, it is worth using the park & ride rather than trying to park in the town itself. It costs £1. 50 for the day and the bus is free.

On balance, this is a good site in a good location.

Lovely quite caravan and campsite, would go again.

The toilet block was spotless cleaned a few times a day the showers were lovely, warm water each time we went up. The ground was great and lovely t set our tent up on.

There is some great walks but not good if you have a pushchair. We did go down some steep steps with my three young children one being a 5month old so had to fold pushchair up to go down but we worth the walk down to this private beach.

There's lots of place's within easy walking distance saunderfoot and tenby. I would recommend this to anyone with young family's or who love walking holidays and want to relax.

 Arrival.

On arrival the staff were friendly and we were given a leaflet with a map of the site (with our pitch circled) and the site rules.

However, being new to the site we did find it slightly difficult to find our pitch on the field, a helpful neighbour pointed out their pitch number, so we could work out ours. As it turns out, the pitch number is marked on a jockey wheel slab, but in our case it was hidden by grass.

Pitches.

We were in “Monkstone” field, which is for tourers and motor homes with electric hook up. The pitches are hard standing and slightly sloping. Both the unit and the awning is on the hard standing, so bring some heavy duty tent pegs with you to peg down the awning. (We bought some in a homeware / campingware shop in nearby Saundersfoot. Pitches are nicely spaced, separated with a grass area, which most people parked their car on.

Monkstone field has a very nice sea view, overlooking Amroth, Pendine Sands, The Gower (Rhossili) and Caldey Island. Our pitch was sheltered by a hedge behind the van, so any breeze off the sea went over the top of us without any problem.

Facilities.

Water Taps. - There are two taps on this small field (approx 12 pitches) so not too far a trek when refilling water tanks.

Chemical Disposal. – A chemical disposal facility is available at the rear of the Monkstone toilet/shower block.

Bins. – Bins are located in the centre of the field.

Toilets / Showers. – Mixed review on this section. Monkstone field toilets and showers are “basic”. The gents has 1 toilet, 2 urinals, 1 shower and 2 sinks, which was adequate when we stayed off peak. The shower is free to use, and is operated by a pull handle which releases the water. The temperature cannot be regulated and the water pressure is very high. We overheard one person comment on the lack of sink plugs, as he wanted a wet shave, but couldn’t fill the sink. Again the pressure is high, so likely to blast the toothpaste off your brush!

The ladies block has 2 toilets, 1 shower and 2 sinks, with pretty much the same setup.

Then, partway through the week, we discovered the “Tenby” field block, which I would rate very highly, but it is a fairly long walk from Monkstone field.

I have to say, I have never seen a toilet block anything like the ones on Tenby Field. They are what I would call “Mediterranean style” as they are built in a square construction, with an open air centre. There are two complexes, one for gents and one for ladies.

Toilet cubicles are on one side, undercover and within a screen wall, sinks are on the opposite side, undercover but also in open air, and the shower cubicles are on the other side, undercover, with the exterior door opening out into the open air centre. I really liked the styling of these facilities. It was not windy or cold, as the whole building is enclosed. There was also a washing up area in this complex.

Shop. – The site shop has the bare essentials, bread, milk, and some meats etc. There is also a Londis shop just up the road in the village of New Hedges, which is just a couple of minutes drive.

Laundry. – We didn’t use this facility as we are self sufficient, so not reviewed.

Location.

The location of this site is excellent.

Adjacent to the site is the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, (denoted by acorn signposts) – so you can walk the coast path into Saundersfoot or Tenby.

There is a lovely sandy beach behind the site, with crystal clear water, which is accessed via 197 steps (I counted them!) down the steep bank. It is quite hard going coming back up, but certainly well worth the effort. If nothing else, you will be fit by the end of your stay!

Saundersfoot is the nearest town about 2 miles away. We biked from the site through Saundersfoot and on to Wisemans Bridge and Amroth. The steep climb out of Saunderfoot on the way back to the site makes it almost not worth biking it unless you are super-fit as we found you are better off walking the coast path.

Tenby is about 3-4 miles away by car.

Overall.

A very nice, gently sloping site, only spoilt by a long(ish) walk to a modern shower and toilet block in Tenby field.

A lovely beach with difficult access for pushchairs etc, accessible directly from the site. If you have very young children, you will need to carry them and the pushchair or use another beach.

Easy access onto the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.

I think we would come back especially for the sea view, the lovely beaches and the nearby towns of Tenby and Saundersfoot.

Improvements.

I can think of a few improvements which could be made to improve the site no-end.

1. The block and toilets themselves were OK, but modernise the shower in Monkstone block with a temperature controllable electric shower.

2. Supply plugs for the sinks

3. Reduce the water pressure

4. Supply a mop, so we can leave the shower in a clean state for the next person, particularly when the weather takes a turn for the worse.
