Spent a great week on this site. Owners friendly and welcoming. The facilities are immaculately maintained and clean. Grounds are well kept too. Tents are accommodated on the two lower fields. These are sloping but most seemed to find a reasonably level pitch.

Facilities include free wifi, great little library, washing machines, shop and there's even a coffee machine available in the washing room.

Showers and toilets are immaculate. Showers are free with plenty of hot water and with good flow.

For tourers there are hard standing plots surrounded by static caravans. A little close but well acceptable. Access to the site is good, with plenty of width through the gates ( I wish other sites would take note). There is an automatic gate on entry but reception is further in the site, not the building immediately to your left, which is the owners accommodation. It is signed but easy to miss and we saw others making the same mistake and looking for reception at the owners door.

For those towing - The route into Polruan as advised on the web site is just about manageable. Take note and make sure you use it. Use Sat nav at your peril! It's very tight but manageable. Be warned, take one wrong turn and you can be in a nightmare situation as some of the local roads are incredibly narrow. Local drivers are pretty accommodating and will back up for you wherever possible.

Local scenery is lovely and Polruan is a great little place to explore. Site is about 300 yards from the coastal path. Two good pubs in

Polruan with the Lugger being our favourite. We ate there most nights and enjoyed every meal. Most of the food is a cut above average pub grub. A good selection of beers too, with a good choice of real ales, all well kept. Also a little village shop with newspapers too and a cafe, which we didn't manage to visit but it seemed popular.

As mentioned before, the walk back up the hill to the campsite is pretty tough, but walking everywhere in Cornwall involves hills!

A fair few folks have mentioned the rules posted everywhere. I guess this is due to so many campers actually needing a reminder. We have all been on sites where there's folks who only think of themselves.

We felt that's what they are for - to make sure everyone understands you need to respect others on site.

Great and would definitely go again. Would score 10/10 If road access wasn't quite so tight.

What a lovely well maintained site above the village of Polruan. All facilities are spotless, the showers are free though the water could have been a bit hotter and my husband didn't like the separate shower / toilet facilities. But other than that we had three lovely nights here, despite the windy conditions.

There is a small shop on site, plus laundry, fridge / freezer, coffee machine and free internet access. The best pitches to be out of the wind are against the hedge.

The walk into the village is down a very steep hill, and back up a very steep hill. The Lugger Inn does very good food and beer. There is also another pub, cafe and a small supermarket. A frequent ferry service crosses the river to Fowey, nice little town for shopping, eating and onward ferry journeys.

The site is very close to the cliff path and if you feel up to it there is a good walk to Great Lantic Beach and Lantivet Bay or on to Polperro and Looe. Alternatively there is the Hall Walk along the river to Boddinick (approx. 4 miles of easyish walking). At Boddinick the Old Ferry Inn serves good food, and if you don't want to walk all the way back you can take the ferry to Fowey and then another to Polruan.

Of note, do not follow your sat nav, take note of the brown direction signs and you wont end up being stuck down a tiny Cornish lane. Also there are size limits on campervan / motorhome / caravan that can be accepted at this site, so check with the owners before booking if in doubt.

There is lots of useful information on the campsite web page.

We spent a week here at the end of August and I have to agree with the other reviewers, it's a really well-run site. Everything is clean and well appointed. We had a pitch at the bottom of the lower field, it might have felt a bit exposed I suppose if it were windy, but the weather was kind and we had the most wonderful views. Little touches make all the difference - being able to freeze ice packs in the shop's fridge was great, and it's really handy that they will charge mobiles etc. For you. Fantastic to have a fridge in the laundry room too - it made the difference between the milk lasting a whole week or it turning into yoghurt after 3 days in the back of the car! The shop was well stocked and priced; a pity it didn't have any of the fabulous local beers in its fridges but I guess a licence to sell alcohol is probably more trouble than it's worth!

We loved Polruan village. Yes, it's a steep walk back up, but it only took us about 10 minutes and you soon get used to it. Both of the pubs (the Lugger on the quay and the Russell) are good. If you want to eat in the Lugger then it's best to book if it's a busy time or at weekends. The teashop (Crumpets, I think it's called) is very nice and the scones are the best I've ever tasted (sorry Mum!). The passenger ferry to Fowey runs until 11pm so you can easily spend the evening there too, we ate in the Ship Inn which was lovely.

The campsite is great for hiking. Hall Walk is lovely. The SW Coastal Path to Polperro is longer and more challenging but beautiful. Lots of other walks can be accessed from Fowey too.

A few people have mentioned 'the rules'. None of them are unreasonable. I'd rather have a few extra posters up reminding everyone what the rules are than put up with other peoples' noise. The site was quiet and peaceful. We don't have children so I can't comment on 'child friendliness'; the only thing I'd say is that it mightn't be great if you have very small kids as the 'no noise before 8am' rule could be hard to enforce on them!

Just spent a week at this site & must say it is wonderful. It's situated above the town which is only a 10 min walk away, Ok it's 20 mins back as it's a steep hill, but it's well worth it. Polruan is a lovely harbour town & the ferry to Fowey ( only &1. 70 ) is very usful.

The site is well maintained & was always spotless, the facilities are excellent even the Wi-Fi is free.

The roads around here are typical Cornish lanes, just don't rely on the sat nav.

My only criticism would be that there was not a lot of space between pitches, but the sea views & clean, friendly site made up for this.

This was our second visit and it certainly won't be our last. The owners work continually to make sure the site is beautifully maintained and the facilities are spotless. While we were there they were awarded a well deserved 5 star rating. I wish we lived nearer so we could go at weekends!

The weather during our stay was glorious this year, the views from the site were fabulous and being on the headland we were able to make the most of any cooling breeze. We took the boat to Fowey, then another boat to Mevagissey and another day drove to St Mawes and took the ferry to Falmouth. Sadly no dolphins to be seen on either trip. Other good days out were Lanhydrock, the Eden Project (have a go on the zip wire, it's brilliant) and Polkerris beach near Par. Speaking of beaches, unless you are fit or optimistic :-) don't try the nearby beach at Lantic Bay, the climb up is very steep and not suitable for children. Try either the harbour at Polruan, or hop on the ferry to Fowey for Readymoney Cove for more accessible swimming. Your next nearest child friendly beaches are Looe, Polkerris or Par.

There were lots of Dutch tourists on site this year and we met some very nice people. The tip from AshandAlex re not using your sat nav locally is a good one, some of the lanes are extremely narrow and as the farmers were haymaking at the time, full of large farm vehicles, making squeezing past the passing spaces fun!

Overall a cracking site - no bar/ clubhouse, no loud music to disturb your peace, it's just brilliant! Thanks to Kevin and Trudy for a fab holiday.

A lovely site and well managed. At first all the notices can seem off-putting but they are really about respecting other campers. Good fairly new loo block with 3 toilets and 3 showers, washing up area, laundry room and info room. Big freezer for ice packs and small fridge too all available until 9pm.

Views of the sea and access onto the cliffs leading to the coast path. The route to Polperro is classified as strenuous so be prepared. Good buses to/from there and Looe make linear walking possible. You can also join the Hall Walk around and into Fowey by the car ferry, returning via the passenger ferry and the steep hill back to the campsite.

Fowey is a very pleasant place to wander but does rather burst at the seams with holidaymakers.

I would recommend Headland Gardens in Polruan open Thursday afternoons in summer. The large garden is right on the cliffs with superb views and serves a good cup of tea as well.

My only negative comment was that the site has a David Bellamy Gold Award but the laundry and information rooms had bright lights on all night despite being locked.

Overall though I wholly recommend the site.

One of the best if not the best site I have stayed on, everywhere is absolutely immaculate, lovely friendly people beautiful setting. All this cost me travelling on my own just £11-00 per night a bit different from my previous review were I was charged £10-00 a night for no facilities whatsoever [I declined to stay there]. Lovely village at foot of the hill, loved the lugger pub particularly, the only drawback is the return to campsite up the hill, after a nice meal and a few pints its an absolute killer, took the ferry to fowey another smashing place. Will definitely return next year and use the ferries from fowey for car free days out. Would highly recommend this site to all tenters caravanners and motorhomers.

Absolutely lovely site, fantastic amenities, Extremely clean and well kept. The owners are out and about all the time, weeding the plants and keeping the grass cut etc. The pitches are all flat however some are on a very gentle slope. The site facilities are of a high standard with 3 showers in both the men's and the ladies washrooms, we never had to queue once. Hot water at all times. A fridge is supplied for campers to use which has plenty of room for everyone. A large freezer is also available for campers to use, freezer blocks could be loaned for no extra charge, so we just swapped ours each day. We also stored some items of food in the freezer. There is a Washing Machine and Dryer available(extra cost). Under cover washing up area. Information room with local places of interest and maps. Well stocked shop, everything you could want on a campsite and more.

Yes there is a quiet policy however this is about common sense, being respectful and courteous to other campers, some of whom have small families, we were sat outside our tent talking and having a drink at night as were other campers however we weren't annoying anyone else. Children were not running wild over the site at night and Dog owners were respectful of others, no parties were taking place but everyone had a good time. This is a family friendly site and is not for rowdier groups or families who don't know how to behave around others.

To add, We had a horrendous journey in as we encountered a terrible accident on the M6, we telephoned the owners and they stated they would be available until 10pm to help us pitch if necessary, asking that we keep them updated, unfortunately we wouldn't have been able to get there before 11 and so decided to stop on route and arrive the following morning. We telephoned the site to advise and arrived a day later. No problem and no charge which we were astounded by as at other sites we have been charged if we haven't been able to make it for any reason.

A little warning, the lanes around the site are very very narrow. When we weren't walking (the Hall walk is lovely although very shaded and you need midgie spray, the walk to polperro along the coastal path is quite difficult, a lot of up hill, as is the walk back to the campsite from Polruan, I believe the local bus will bring you back up the hill if you time it right) We used the local bus, it picks up and drops off right outside the campsite and we visited Looe and Polperro using this, the cost is even less than paying for parking and it gave us an opportunity to enjoy the area without using our car. The bus driver gave us a tip which is very useful - Do not follow your sat nav when travelling about the lanes, follow the road signs as they will take you along the slightly wider roads which have better passing places. The sat nav will take you along the very tight narrow lanes which are a nightmare to pass if you meet something coming the other way.

To finish we would like to thank the owners for a wonderful week on a lovely campsite.

We have just realised that we didn't leave a review on our return from our June 2013 holiday but as the campsite in lovely Polruan was such a good site to stay at we still wanted to let campers know how 'great' it was. The owners were extremely welcoming, kind and helpful and the pitch we were on was large, flat and well sheltered, nothing was to fault and we will definitely be returning at some point in time. The showers and toilet block were kept very clean daily and the shop was very well stocked. The site was well laid out and the owners ensured that everyone was happy as they toured the site to make sure that all was well and no-one was causing any unnecessary loud noises or disruption. It is a quiet, peaceful and relaxing campsite that you will enjoy and this was very much appreciated by all. The walk down to the harbour didn't take long at all and was enjoyable but the return walk may be a little steep for some older or disabled people. The little ferry to Fowey was operated regularly and took about 8mins, it added another dimension to our holiday and we loved it. There are 2 pubs at Polruan harbour and both served good food and were welcoming and Fowey itself has a number of quaint shops, good pubs and eateries and we had an enjoyable time there. We can go on but won't - all we can say is that this Campsite is very good and there are plenty of places to visit from this area. Don't hesitate to visit!

This is our 2nd visit to this site the 1st time being 3 years ago. We can't praise it enough. The whole site is spotless;the showers, toilets, laundry area, washing-up area. There are 3 ladies showers, 2 men's, these are free of charge on 7 minute timers, which is perfect time. There is also a hairdryer in the ladies, small charge of 20p. The small camp shop sells essentials. The owners are very friendly. We camped on the bottom field, perfect for overlooking the sea. There are lots of fantastic walks close by. We walked the coast path from the site to Polperro, took 3 hours but breathtaking views, then caught the bus back, you can request it to stop at the site gate. We also did the hill walk to Boddinick, had a meal at the Ferry Inn then crossed to Fowey by ferry. Polruan is a lovely village, about 5 minutes walk from the site down a steep hill, has 2 pubs that both serve very good food, a cafe, gift shop & a general store. The walk back is very steep, takes about 10-15 mins. There is also a ferry from Polruan to Fowey £1. 70, takes about 5 mins but lovely views of the estuary. Well worth visiting Fowey. We will certainly visit the site again.
