 August 2004
went to this camp at the end of August. It's on hill out of the way perfect if you want to get away from it. Childrens park was good, showers and toilets were kept clean although a bit of updating wouldn't go amiss.
Mwnt beach was excellent and clean with dolphins frolicking in the surf, kids loved it we spent all day on the beach (yes weather was on our side for once).
While we were on the site there was a festival going on which was fun.
Owners really friendly and the small shop was stocked okay, I would go to this camp again next!!!
Only moan was the fishing lake was choked with weed and unfishable, but overall a good quite small camp.

We arrived quite late (after midnight!) to this campsite but they were very welcoming. It's quite hard to find the campsite but friendly people along the way pointed us in the right direction.
The views of the area are stunning, and a fantastic little beach very near by, great place for walking.
The facilities of the campsite were not very good. There were two very small showers and about three toilets for the whole of the campsite, which was quite busy as it was bank holiday weekend. The thing that I found the worst was the fact that for the entire two nights we were there, we didn't get any sleep, this was because the wind was terrible. It wasn't a very sheltered place, but it was terrible.
I enjoyed my stay but I wouldn't go back to that particular campsite again.

This was our first visit to the site, the family that run it were very helpful. The toilets / showers were cleaned on a regular basis although not the most modern, they certainly were upto scratch. The site is on a slight slope over-looking the sea which takes about 1/2 hour to walk to or about 5 mins in the car. The nearest beech is Mwnt which I can highly reccomend very clean with public (clean) toilets and a small shop/hatch for ices etc etc.
You are about 15 mins away from a Tesco store & Kwikkie and the small site shop is there for all your last minute essentials milk eggs etc.
We found it particulally helpful that we were able to put our ice packs in the shop freezer. The small childrens play area was of good quality and the football area was of good size for the children to run about on!!

We were at this site last week, the views are stunning, the site well kept, childrens play area was lovely.
The staff very cheerful and helpful.

The toilets and showers what a let down. Apart from the disabled toilet there was only two toilets, sinks and showers for a few hundred people, the seats and mirror were broken they were down some dangerous steps. People we spoke to had been there all week and said they had never got hot water.

Despite this the site was full.

A very quiet, basic site, in the middle of nowhere, on a working farm, run by a lovely very pleasant family who will do there best to help in any way possible. The site has a shop with limited opening times (check out the notice on the door, roughly a couple of hours in the morning and early evening), which sells the basics and you can order your daily paper.
Five toilets with wash basins (some without plugs) which where kept well supplied with toilet paper, soap and paper towels and kept clean, although during the day they became very wet and muddy and on the odd occasion you may have to wait for one to become vacant. They have showers and they allow families to use the disabled shower because it’s a lot bigger. They have a laundry on site and washing up facilities, plus the usual waste disposal point and refuse collection bins. There is one main water point at the top of the field and I think there are others along the fence in the middle.
The static caravans are situated around the bottom of the field and up the side with the touring caravans at the top of the field and the tents in the middle, next to the play area (swings, slides, climbing frames and a set of goal posts).
The whole field has a slight slope so pitch your tent with caution. They have a duck pond where you can walk and feed the ducks and also they have a very friendly donkey who loves your attention. There is also a well stocked coarse fishing lake.
In all my years of SAS training nothing could have prepared me for the mission I was faced with to gain access to the beach. According to the brochure you can reach the Mwnt beach via a bridle path, this is true but what they fail to mention is that you have to pass through two farms and a caravan park, dodge cow pats, nettles, thistles and endure mud up to your ankles and also be careful of a steep drop on the way and you still haven’t arrived at your destination. Probably easier to go by car your thinking, well you can but try to tackle a single track lane and hope you don’t meet anything coming the other way. There is a car park which I’m pretty sure is pay and display. The beach has won awards in the past (and I can see why as its exceptionally clean) so is very popular and on our time of visiting was very crowded. Before you descend down the steps on to the beach there is a shop selling hot and cold drinks and food and the general bits and bobs you usually find in a beach shop. There are also toilets. If you are feeling energetic then there is a cliff top walk or if you are feeling religious there is a very old church you can visit.
If you do venture out in your car it would be a good idea to remember your way rather than rely on the sign post as they are oddly positioned and point to nowhere. We went to Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park (£3.20 adults £2.30 children 2-13 yrs under 2yrs free), well worth the visit. The children can feed the farm animals (and there are quite a few) on the way to a lovely safe marked out coastal walk where you can hopefully see seals (as we did). There is a play area, picnic area and a small café. Further a field just off the A487 bypass, on our way in we noticed, quite a few shops (Tesco) and some pubs.
All in all I’d say this site would be better suited to older people, perhaps a couple who are looking to park up the car get out a book or the fishing tackle and relax. Although there were quite a few older children around (8 to 15yrs) it wasn’t noisy and I really can’t think what they found to keep themselves amused I think if the weather had been horrible we would have struggled to find something to do with our 5 and 6 year olds.
