Just returned from 2 night stay here. Agree with other reviews what a lovely friendly place. Everything is spotless and well kept. New toilet block being built, but that doesn't stop the place from being kept so pristeen. Lovely walks straight from site. Nice village with small shop and couple of pubs (we never tried them) however did go for breakfast in the first cafe just outside of the site cant remember the name but it was really nice.

Just spent 2 nights with family.
As mentioned elsewhere lovely site well tended by Eddie, who was very chatty and helpful - he seemed to be working 24/7 keeping it all in order.
Two downsides though.
1. Toilets although very clean, they have seen better days, the ladies showers seemed to vary between boiling and cold. New ones are planned for later in the year.
2. Midges - Make sure you have plenty repellent, these creatures are the worst I have ever come across, within 30 seconds of coming out of the caravan we were covered and boy do they bite!
Other than the two issues above, its a great site in a very friendly village

Probably the friendliest site we have been on. Beautifully kept, despite being in the middle of building work. Pitches are allocated according to the length of your van. Watched herons and red squirrels from the van window. Toilet block is spotless but rather old. Super biking right from the site up to the forest. Drove to Keilder (19 miles away) and cycled all around the reservoir on brand new bike track - wonderful.

We stayed here for four nights, was met at the entrance by eddie and the young lassie I think her name was shona, very nice friendly people, it's a small site well kept and you can see the pair of them going about checking everything is up to scratch and making conversation with the people on the site. There is a new toilet block in the process of being built to replace the present one which is a bit small but is kept very clean. The village has all you need, butcher, baker, newsagents, hardware shop, little costcutters, cafe, couple of hotels. I tried the grapes hotel for a meal and was well pleased. Forest walks were a couple of miles away which I thought were great and you have a walk right on site that goes up round the back of the village, then takes you down along the river which is very nice. There are the border towns to visit, we went to hawick for the day and it is really worth the journey.

Lovely little site in probably the friendliest village in the world everyone says hello and the staff in the pub/shops were incredibly nice and helpful so is the warden on the site. The site is very well kept, the toilets/showers aren't the best but who cares there's forest and a river, shops and a couple of pubs the one I went in did nice food. The wife and I loved this site a great stopover on the way to the west coast of Scotland

We used this site for a overnight stop both ways on the way upto the highlands, but we were treated the same as everybody else who was there longer, nothing was a problem for Eddie, he was always about doing something or as the sign say in his office window 'be back in 5 mins'. The toilet/shower block may look dated but I found the showers very good, the site it self is wonderful.full of colour and fancy garden ornamants look out for the great dane near the gate ( I don,t think he move much) the village its self has everything you need, plus a good hardware shop which sells odds and ends for camping, this is the second time we have used this site as a stop over, next time we will stay longer, I am in total agreement with the other reviews for this site. Well done Eddie and crew.

Just returned from 3 nights at this peaceful Caravan Club Site. Site is situated in the quiet village of Newcastleton. An excellent site although the shower block is getting a bit past it, this is due to the proposed re-introduction of the Waverley Line a railway which was cut during the Beaching cuts of the 60's, the camp site being in a area close to or possible was the old railway station. However the proposed reintroduction has been discussed for may years. The sit is not suitable for children although there were children on the site. There is no play area for them but with Newcastleton forest no more than a 15 minute cycle ride or 5 min drive away their is plenty for them to let off energy their. There is a small shop on site but the village also has all that one may need, with post office, garage, bank small grocery store, plus you are only approx 25mins from Carlisle. For golfers their is a Gem of a little course in the village built on the hillside overlooking the village. The first 3 holes are all up hill and only 3 of the 9 holes are down hill. But at £6 for 9 holes and £12 for 18 it is a course well worth trying. Eddie and Shona were very helpful on site nothing seamed to be a problem and for those of you who have given up hope for the youth of today, there are teenagers in this part of the world who will not only smile but say hello to you. A lovely site and we will be back.

A lovely little site, Caravan Club affiliated. A lot of work has been done here by Eddie. The toilet block is far from ideal but he is up against planners. We booked in Feb 2006 and were asked for our van length when we booked, we were only given a choice of 2 pitches on arrival which left our rear end and awning sticking out onto the site road. Eddie tries to please everyone and as such has become a victim of his own success, with regular clientele who ask for certain pitches. We walked around the site and saw far smaller vans on huge pitches with acres of grass around them. Now I am all for first come first served, had we been given the freedom to choose our own pitch it wouldn't have been the two we were given a choice off. Still it was hard to get upset as Eddie was always beavering away at something on the site and was a lovely friendly man.
