I hesitated to leave this review. I don't want people to know what a superb campsite this is. I want to keep it a secret!
This is the second time I have camped here, it is very peaceful in lovely settings and very well run by more than helpful people.
The walks are fairly tough but worth doing as the views are some of the best in the UK.
I am an Astronomer and I could see the Andromeda galaxy with out any optics, very good skies for stargazing.
The new loo`s and showers are some of the best I have seen on a campsite, this site is now my favorite

We were really impressed by how beautiful the campsite its views were. Not only because its beside a beautiful river with wonderful views of the hills. But also (and particularly) because they were so relaxed and also so helpful when we needed help.
When we arrived they were super friendly but told us to pitch wherever we wanted and feel free to pay later (perfect!), Sadly though, we had a major glitch with out brand new tent (outwell inflatable pole tent) and 4 out of 5 piles had punctures. Disaster! First they let us use their landline to try to source puncture repair kits. But when that turned out to be unrealistic (each pole had multiple - yes multiple - punctures) we had to give up and try to find a hotel. They again they let us use their landline and wifi and recommended a nearby hotel in Thwaite (also lovely!) and got us booked in there. I honestly don't know what we would have done if they hadn't been so kind.
However they would not let us pay anything even though we'd soaked up so much of their time!
When we came back two days later (having borrowed a tent. ) they were again fabulously relaxed and let us just get on with it. We pitched across the road, hire a firepit and bought some wood. Got our 'meat market' order (see below) and then had a fabulous night with friends.
By the way, I recommend that you buy a hamper from the 'meat market' that they supply. Great food and it arrives in perfect time for the weekend and is kept cold for you in their fridge :-)
Facilities are fabulous too. Lots of toilets and showers. Even a hand drier and hair drier! Ridiculously clean and kept that way regularly. Great washing up facility too and a big fridge.
Slight things to prep for:
#1. No internet or phone reception. But pay phone in Muker which is 10 mins nice walk.
#2. If you camp by the river there are a lot of mini midges so bring repellent and have a fire (and keep tent closed!).

Stayed here with friends for 1 night.
Lovely campsite with excellent views and location. We did travel with children and whilst there wasn't any specific facilities for children there was plenty of space for them to runaround and play which was great. New facilities (toilets, showers, wash up) are very nice, clean & warm. Owners very helpful too.
Shame weather wasn't better as was very wet and windy at times (typically sun came out just after we'd packed tent away!) but we will be back am sure because of excellent location with a nice flat pitch.
One thing to note- we did leave some rubbish including food outside our tent to take to the bins in the morning (as we'd retired to our tents because of the rain). It was all neatly in bags but we did get visited by foxes in the night having a rummage so would make sure no matter the weather to take rubbish to bin!

This is possibly my favourite campsite in England in definitely my favourite Dale. We love staying on the smaller field next to the river but in both fields the views are spectacular and never feel crowded.
The owners are just so lovely and friendly and I love the fact that they didn't overcharge for the Tour de France last year, organised it superbly and then invested the money they made in upgrading the facilities.
I defy anyone who stays here not to fall in love with Usha Gap and the whole of Swaledale.

Stayed here in for the first time at a weekend in the middle of May. This is a simple site in a stunning location in Upper Swaledale. Toilets, showers and washing up area were all clean and warm. NIce touch were the games, books to borrow and fire pits. Lovely walks in the area. Footpath to Muker direct from the site, ten minute walk to a cosy village pub. We were made to feel welcome on arrival. We will visit again.

Stayed here one night in a group of adults and children, on what appeared to be the windyest day that ever graced the planet. Really lovely sight - plenty of room. There was a river running through that my little one loved to play in. The site owners were so lovely and made us feel welcome. 5/10 min walk to nearest little village with a pub and a shop. The toilet/ wash block were new and very clean and spacious. Was a room with games for the kids to play, and the whole block was nice and warm. Great site. 'It's a yes from me!'

Visited Usha Gap last August bank holiday, second stay there. Lovely site in a picturesque location with very friendly owners. Lower part of the field is flat but it slopes up quite a bit although there is a second large field which looks pretty flat all over. Lovely area for walking and the Farmer's Arms pub in the village serves a good range of meals reasonably priced and many marked Gluten Free which is a bonus for me. Facilities were clean if a bit basic but they were building a new block which will be welcome. All round a great site.

Tour de France
We stayed at Usher Gap for the week of the Tour. It was absolutely brilliant. On arrival there were clear signs to direct us to our field. Good clean portaloos in situ. The owners of the site checked frequently to ensure all was well. Muker village had an amazing shop, which somehow managed to supply milk, beer, bread etc all week! Pub was friendly and very welcoming too.
Our first trip to Swaledale and we shall definitely be back.
Thanks very much

We camped at usha gap for the grand depart of the Tour de France. What an absolutely amazing time we had. The staff team worked tirelessly all weekend to make sure everyone was happy, toilets were clean and fully stocked with toilet rolls, hand wash and hand towels.
We were a party of 10 adults, 12 children and 3 dogs. All in 5 tents. We had more than enough room.
We can't wait to return when it's a bit quieter!
