I stayed here with my camper van in early June and, on the strength of this, also joined many others for the Grand Depart of the Tour de France. What an amazing spot! Excellent walks from the site, views to die for, friendly and beautiful village with a little shop and lovely looking pub (didn't get a chance to try it but reputedly very good. In June 2014 the site was basic but fine with a small WC and shower block, but they are in the middle of building new facilities. The owner could not be more helpful, sending lots of helpful advice before hand and giving a warm welcome.
As others have said there are two parts to the site, one by the house and farm and the other across the road by a stream. I stayed over the road and found there was so little traffic it made no difference. Don't forget your midge spray in summer though - they love that stream!

Just spent an amazing BH weekend at this campsite. We stayed in the front site next to the stream (Note you have to cross the road to get to the toilets if you have young children may be wise to camp in back field). The facilities are basic (no elec) but as of this week, are being extended and transformed with more toilets, showers and a conference room for DofE participants. The view from the tents are amazing and so quiet although there is a road but that did not bother us at all. The owners are really helpful and friendly. A short walk is the pub and tea room and from the campsite you can go on some breath taking walks. If you look at the pub website they have some of the listed for you. The nearest bigger shops are in Hawes so I would be prepared with all you need to cook before you go if cooking yourself. And there is no phone signal for miles which was lovely. Great campsite and would go again.

We were there for the b/h weekend and it was packed due to weather being fantastic. Myself and my son were up for 6am to use the showers as mentioned in other reviews only 2 available I was dreading this but infact it was no problem only problem I had was the midges. We camped beside the shed which housed a collie that barked when people used the portaloos but it wasn't bad once you got use to it. The owner was very trusting as she didn't want paying until we left which I found strange. We walked from the campsite to Gunnerside which was about an 8 mile round walk. There is no pub (closed down) here but an over priced tea shop which was not dog friendly we had to sit outside in the wet with our sandwiches. The Farmers Arms at Muker was excellent even though it was a record breaking weekend for them the service and staff were first class and food well worth the money. We stopped off at The Reeth show on way home and enjoyed the sheepdog trials as we have 2 ourselves.

My two sons and myself stayed here for two nights. We had a fantastic time, the site is in a good location. The pitches are flat and there is plenty of room. Shower and toilets are a little dated but adequate. The showers cost 20 pence and the water is piping hot, not sure how long it lasts but it was enough for me to have a good shower. We will be going back. The farmers arms down the road have a range of real ales that are worth a try.

My girlfriend and I slept in our tent here in November 2012 on a Monday, and had the small field (next to a pretty river) to ourselves. Floods were abundant in the area, and although it rained all evening and night, no problem occurred for us, and the site appeared very well drained.
There are still two clean toilets (with toilet paper and soap, but cold water only in the gents at least) and two clean metered showers, with two potwashing sinks (with hot water). We were pleased to park next to the tent, with no worries about getting stuck, and the grass length was satisfactory.
The views are very good, although not spectacular, but the field next to the river is right next to the road, which every ten minutes reminded you. For us, the road noise meant we would never return, since we hardened walkers couldn't feel we were properly in the countryside.
We were charged £6 each and £2 for the car by the nice woman, who said to call if we had any problem.

Campsite split in two parts - quite basic and not many other campers in our field, but peaceful and tranquil - farmers dogs do bark when you walk past entrance but stop once they cant see you.
Simple facilities - shower and loo but clean if a little dated.
Lovely walk across fields into Muker about ten minutes away where there is a pub which allows children until 9pm and serves food.
Perfect get away from everything, scenery wonderful - only negative for us was we were bombarded by midges and we weren't even in the part near the river.
No specific facilities for kids but lots of room to race about and play, and a river to build dams across. It felt safe and completely relaxing.

We visited here August Bank Holiday, we received a warm Yorkshire welcome from the Owner, Mrs Metcalfe, she told us to pitch anywhere and we were given a choice of the field near the river (across the road) or through the farm yard. We chose the field through the farm yard, found a level spot and pitched the tents. Midges were a bit of a problem so don't forget your insect repellant. Grass was quite long so walking to the toilets resulted in wet trousers from knee to ankle.
As previous reviews have noted, the facilities are basic, but adequate, 2 toilets (plenty of loo roll), 2 showers - 20p, Tumble Drier - 20p. No separate washing facilities so you have to share with the pot wash! Not very hygienic! It wouldn't take much effort to have a pot wash area. This is what lets the site down.
Site is approx 1/2 mile walk into Muker, you can follow the footpath through the fields, where you will find the Farmers Arms Pub which does Great Food & Real Ales, Local Store, Tea Rooms & Swaledale Woollens.
The scenery is breathtaking and lots of places to visit within easy reach, Hawes is only 15 - 20 mins drive over Buttertubs, have your camera at the ready the views are spectacular but watch out for the sheep. Only £6. 00 pppn (Bargain). Definitely plan to go back.

We arrived at Usha Gap having been at a very basic campsite before and I assumed, having read the blurb, that this would be a step up.
I was very disappointed in that, although the toilets were clean, they were old and my kids were very put off. The showers were similarly old and none of us used them.
My kids were also initially scared stiff of the barking sheep dogs! We were advised to stay in the larger field as it was on the same side of the road as the toilets, even though we were physically further from them!
Also, the grass was very long so we all ended up with wet and cold feet - the next morning we wised up and got the wellies out!
The scenery is spectacular but to stay again, the facilities would need to be updated. However, the lady in charge was very helpful and allowed me to use her house phone as there was no mobile phone reception.

Just come back from this site, after the Easter weekend.
Spent 3 nights here. This is a lovely site; I think all the other comments are right.
The lady is very friendly who owns this. I kept saying to her I will pay now, but she kept saying pay me when you leave.
There is only one toilet for men and one for women, so can queue to get in.
Muker is about 10 minutes walk, which has a lovely pub, tea rooms and village store. Thwaite is about the same distance the other way, maybe a little longer, but could not see any shops there, just a hotel with a bar.
All in all a lovely site with great views cannot wait to go back

Spent a couple of nights camping here. It's in a great spot, with excellent waking opportunities right from the site.
Facilities on site are good, but they may be pushed to the limit in busy times as there's just one ladies and one gents toilet and two showers.
The village of Muker is a 10 minute walk. It has a great pub with decent food. Thwaite is a similar distance in the other direction, but I didn't check that place out.
Site fees reasonable - £5 per person, £2 per car.
A good site. Will return.
