What a lovely site. Really good welcome from Terry and his son, unfortunately didn't meet Jan. The real star of the show though was Jeff, the Border Terrier.
We had a smashing week on this site, even though the weather left something to be desired. Got the feeling Terry would have done something about this if he could.
Shower excellent and toilet and wash facilities couldn't have been cleaner.
My husband found very good dog walks directly from the site and also had a good afternoons fishing at the dam.
Loads of really lovely places to visit up and down the coast with the usual excellent fish and chips in Whitby.
We went to 'The Aidensfield Arms'! Goathland, for Sunday lunch which was excellent and plentiful. Would definitely return again.

We stayed here in our tent for 3 nights and had a fantastic time from start to finish. The camping area has recently been extended to another field so there was loads of room. The campsite is still lovely and small so feels more relaxing for that reason.
There are some nice views and although it's quite near a main road, there was minimal noise (the odd sheep baaing in the night - you definitely feel you are in the country!).
Most people staying here seemed quiet and to be looking to relax and we noticed that groups and couples without children were actually in a separate field to those with kids - intentional or not I don't know but it certainly made it very peaceful for us!
The campsite had everything we wanted without being overly fancy (and therefore is not too expensive!). There were two showers and two toilets. We didn't realise until the last day, when a sign was put up, that they were separate for men and women. Personally we prefer it being unisex as it lessens the likelihood of queues, especially for ladies. However there weren't often queues.
The toilets were kept in a very good condition - the owners Terry and Jan are clearly keen to keep everything looking nice. The water was lovely and hot and there was plenty of it.
The freezer we could use for ice blocks for the cool box was very handy, as was the washing up area.
One of the best things about the campsite was the owners. They are exceptionally friendly and helpful - but not overbearing at all. They lent us a map when we did a local walk, and went out of their way to explain how to get to certain places. They also gave us a very useful list of recommendations of sights and pubs etc - very helpful - as well as suggesting more specific things for what we wanted.
We had a great walk on the moors, a day out to Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay, a trip to the Danby Visitor Centre and the reservoir, a drink in a hotel at Runswick Bay and dinner and drinks out at the Black Bull (we walked there and it was do-able with head torches even after a massive dinner and a few drinks each!).
However the campsite is so nice you could spend hours just lazing about. The field was nice and flat so we did some sunbathing and played bat and ball etc. All in all, a great weekend and we didn't want to leave!

Just returned from this site today. A great site, we had two tents with 3 adults and 3 children in total was perfect for us. Nice clean site good clean facilities where you didn't have to queue for showers (Even at 8 o'clock in the morning).
We stayed two nights the 1st night we ventured in to Whitby, on the second day we went to Scarborough and came back to site for a BBQ. Lots of things to do when we arrived the guy who owned the site gave us a information sheet which has lots of ideas and places to go to on which was very useful.
Site Owners are fantastic nice and friendly
Other campers on this site were also great noise kept to a minimum even when the kids were all playing in the field.
Can not wait to visit this site again.

This is a lovely quiet site and although it is a basic site it is very clean and has electric hook up. It is fairly flat with splendid views over north Yorkshire.
The toilet and showers are very clean but only one of each for each gender which was fine because it was not too busy but maybe a little bit of a pain when site is full.
The owners Terry and Jan are lovely people and are very helpful recommending local places of interest and places to eat, they will also freeze your ice packs for cool boxes. We would recommend this site and look forward to going back.

We are a family of 4, two of which are 8 and 6 have just returned from 4 nights at this wonderful small campsite about 10 miles from Whitby. The owners Terry and Jan couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. We only phoned up the day before and despite having the main field full they opened their garden field to fit us in. The facilities are basic with only one toilet and shower per gender but we never had to queue and Terry set up a freezer for coolbox blocks while we were there. There are electric hook ups if required (we didn't) and all the facilities were spotlessly clean and well stocked. Terry, having grown up in the area had plenty of advice on things to see and do. You can visit the seaside at Sandsend or Saltburn (our favourite) or walk for miles across the moors. The Moors centre at Danby is another great day out
We will return to the area again and when we do this will be where we will stay. The road that passes the farm is very quiet so smaller kids are safe from traffic
Thanks again for a wonderful time!

Plus points:
Beautiful and convenient location which was very easy to find using UK Campsite directions-would definitely recommend this caravan friendly route.
Sandsend lovely beach and very good pub food just over the little bridge(can't remember the name, small beer garden, excellent service and The Stiddy pub on the way back from Sandsend to Ugthorpe was also superb.
The Hole of Horcum is stunning and a must to visit as are the small towns along the steam railway route-Grosmont for one. We are going to have to return to the area as it is so lovely, so much to see and not enough time! We will have to find another camp site though, which is a shame.
Minus points:
1. There is no charge for dogs but no mention that certain breeds are not allowed. We arrived, paid and let our dog out of the car next to the caravan, on his lead, ready to walk. We had been in the car for 3 hours! The owner came over and said that had he known our dog was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier then he wouldn't have allowed us on site and in any event he had no note in his book that we were bringing a dog. This made me feel uncomfortable. However it was an oversight on his part, as my initial email enquiry Requested 2 pitches for 4 adults and 2 dogs.
I was concerned with other dogs not on leads, one of which ran over to our pitch and barked at our dog, who, if he had reacted, (which he didn't-as I said before, he is well-trained) because of his breed, we would have been criticised.
I fully appreciate site rules. We have been camping for over 20 years and have never had a problem. If I had known there was a restriction then I would not have proceeded with the booking. But. If there are rules then they should apply to everyone.
2. As an eco-friendly site green solution must be used. Absolutely fine-we had been informed when we booked, so we purchased some from the owner. But it is not effective. The stench from the dish washing area, which is next to the chemical toilet, was awful. Waste water disposal point? There isn't one-we were told to pour it into the hedge bottom
3. The portable cabin on this site was clean but not £17. 50 worth. The number of units was also off-putting as there were more than 5 vans and a lot of tents, so the limited facilities would not have been adequate, albeit we used our own in the van.
Disappointing because such a superb location, with stunning views and very peaceful.

We stayed at this site on the basis of the good reviews the site had received previously. Unfortunately I can't agree entirely with them and whilst it wasn't all bad I won't be returning.
Firstly good points.
The owners were indeed friendly. The pitches were flattish and spacious (flatter at the top of the field than further down). It's quiet and convenient for a number of activities.
Now the bad.
Not exactly convenient for stocking up - Coop at Staithes nearest, then Lidl at Whitby.
One toilet/shower per gender was not sufficient for a site that had (on one night I counted) 18 units. .
Showers themselves are pretty poor. The ladies shower continually tripped out necessitating leaving the cubicle to reset.
The washing up water suffered from a similar problem and I wonder with they were caused by the same issue (the washing up water was run from continuous flow electric heater that was wired on 13amp cable - the legal requirement is I believe 6mm T&E).
The washing up itself is situated directly adjacent to the CWD and you can smell it. I don't wash dishes next door to sewage at home, I don't expect to do it when I'm away.
The method of extending electric hookup was questionable. I would be reluctant to say more than that as I didn't investigate too far.
The whole thing seemed to be a little Heath Robinson and done on the cheap and the pricing wasn't IMHO cheap.
If you do happen to go, give the Hinderwell chipshop a complete miss; it's truly awful (unfortunately you're pointed here by the owners though I think only on the basis that it's the nearest).
The locals told me that Staithes chippy was OK (didn't try it so can't speak personally). This a matter of 2-3 mins further on from Hinderwell.
We did though eat at the chippy in Liverton Mines (about another 8-10 minutes on the B1366 - take a left at the Loftus traffic lights heading north on the coast road from Hinderwell/Staithes). LIverton Mines chippy was truly excellent.

We arrived at approx 7pm and a quick call to Terry and he appeared to offer all guidance and assistance, an information sheet but most important, a smile. Certainly less informal than other sites we've experienced but the most friendly.
At first glance its a field in the middle of the moors ( only a few hundred yards from the main road - thanks to a previous review the sign for 'Tranmire' gave us the confidence the sat nav had got us to the right place ) On closer inspection all pitches were numbered, however we were able to choose our place due to site being quiet. The field was mowed daily whilst we were there especially around where people had left. The rubbish was not allowed to build up and toilet/showers were cleaned daily. Gents having Radio 2 pipped in all day - nice touch.
Hot water on tap - excuse the pun !
( Another earlier tip re the trip switch in the gents for the outside washing up hot water - Thanks )
My fiancé is a clean/hygiene freak and she said she would be happy to return. That in itself is one heck of a recommendation.
On our penultimate day the site filled up with a few more caravans and tents of all sizes too.
The atmosphere certainly warmed up too. Plenty of space for ball games and Frisbee playing. A great view over the hedge of the moors. Ideally situated for day trips out or trips further afield. We visited Whitby a few times, Robin Hoods Bay, Saltburn by the Sea and Sandsend, apparently recently visited by Madonna and Elle Mcpherson !
We would all return here. No fuss, just simple, clean, friendly, peaceful and fun camping without the worry of where the kids have wondered off to.
Oh, do hide your balls from Geoff the dog - he is playful !

After our visit to this beautiful site I asked my family to give me words that best describe Folly Hall Farm. Peaceful, tranquil, clean, tidy and very nice welcoming owners. Nothing was too much trouble and we will be returning as soon as we can.
Facilities are limited to one loo and shower per gender and the washing up facilities are outside but they were well kept and very clean.
The site is nice and flat and the views are amazing from every angle.
We had planned on spending our main holiday in October in a static caravan but after staying at Folly Hall Farm we will be spending it on Terry and Jan's beautiful site.
Would highly recommend if your looking for a peaceful, relaxing break or holiday.

This camp site was just what we imagined it to be. On arrival we were greeted by the owner who was very welcoming, Terry was very informative about the area, we visited the Scaley Dam a great walk around the dam and a nature reserve close to it. The walk on the moors was really nice with a mixture of varied weather. If you are a bird watcher there were many beautiful ones to spot the yellow hammers, lapwings, swallows, pied wagtail, and you can hear the owls at night.
Very close to the Folly Hall farm is a farm where you can purchase fresh farm eggs, Turkey eggs also. Whitby is close by and Staithes.
This camp site is a good base to walk or cycle to various places. The toilet facilities and shower area are always kept very clean. I would recommend this site, we had really good weather during the day, We hope to return next year
