On site shop rather expencive, but bread not very fresh(birds enjoyed a feast)

I also had internet for a week,(suddenely on the last day the server was down all day/night,No offer of a refund either.

Was also overcharged on site fees(got money back next day.

Spent a few nights here over the bank holiday weekend.

Site is large, nicely layed out and well looked after. It's split up into smaller areas, depending wether you want electric hook up or not. We were tented without electric & so were at the far end in one of three, slightly sloping fields, where you pitch where you like. There is a railway line running along one side of the site, but trains were infrequent & didn't bother us.

The facilities are good, clean, modern & we didn't have to queue even thou the site was quite full. There are six showers, basins & loos in the mens (same in the ladies). There's also a seperate area for washing up.

One problem with the facilities - although the wash basins always had piping hot water, all the showers ran cold (mens & ladies). Tried them morning, afternoon & evening - always stone cold!

If they could sort out the showers this would be an excellent site.

Have just returned from a lovely quiet weekend at Hawthorne Farm. Though not my first stay here, the last one was over 20 years ago.

We chose this site as we had looked at several the weekend before & this was the only one that wasn't boggy.

When we arrived we had the whole field to ourselves & could pitch any where, which was great as we had a new tent to put up. Gradually over the weekend more campers turned up. The toilet block is very modern, there is no limit on hot water in the 6 showers, there is also a hairdryer in the ladies(not sure about mens). Plenty of washing-up sinks, also a laundry with tumble dryer.

Though there isn't a play area, there is a lovely big tree in the middle of the field, so our girls had great time climbing it and making new friends. We spent Saturday morning looking around Dover museum, only £7 for family ticket & was money well spent.

I can not think of anything we didn't like about this site, in fact we are returning for a longer stay at the end of the month.

Have stayed at this campsite on several occassions and have always found it to be very clean, tidy and friendly.

The site itself is very pleasant and well maintained, the facilities are really good and always kept clean and warm.

The shop is well stocked with essentials and more!

The site also has a cafe.

It is very close to tesco and has a pub a short walk away. The beach is a short drive.

The campsite allows dogs. The kids really like the site, although it could do with a small playground! although there is one down the road!

This site is one of our favourites. The toilet blocks are always clean. There are plenty of washing up facilities and the grounds are well looked after. The shop is pretty well stocked, the staff are friendly and there is also a cafe. We have never had a bad trip here (been several times with the family). The kids love it.

We stayed one night before getting ferry in the morning. Good clean site. Pitch were you like. No beer on site and food limited to a small shop. Lots of wildlife. Narrow road on the lead up to it. Well worth a stop over if you're going to the continent

This is one of our favourite sites and we visit for weekends 3 to 4 times a year as we are only an hour away. The site is really large but because it is split up into hedged area it retains an air of privacy.
The toilet/ shower block is one of the best we've seen. It is very clean, there are enough showers and basins and the water is always piping hot.

The best thing about this site is it is very relaxed. We always meet up with a group of friends and have a great time. There is a railway at the edge but I can't say we've ever been bothered by it.

If you don't want to travel too far then a trip to Deal (Old Village end) is lovely. Last time we were there we found that the local take away Chinese shop (the first one you come to when driving towards Deal) will deliver to the campsite!
The Ugly Duckling village pub is lovely too.

This site is down a quiet lane in the Kent countryside, very handy for either a quick stopover near Dover ferryport or a longer break touring the Kent countryside and villages. Mein host and his staff all seem affable.

The site is a good size and has several fields, separted by hedges. There is a mix of static vans in their own bays, touring vans and tents in lightly hedged bays with services, and us peasants who don't need an electric hookup in a couple of large open fields (one of which is also shared with caravan storage, where the water taps are also hidden.)

They did seem to cram the tents in without too much regard for spacing, so it would be wise choose your plot carefully and defend it with windbreaks and a strategically parked car.

Yes, there's a railway on an embankment along the side of the site, but its pretty well hidden by trees and it is fairly quiet and unobtrusive. Certainly me and 'er indoors (who is a light sleeper at the best of times) weren't bothered by it.

As the site was fairly crowded (Bank Holiday weekend) there was a fair bit of noise into the evening. A far bigger problem was caused by some idiot in a static van the other side of the hedge playing his TV so loud at midnight he couldn't hear me when I stood outside his open lounge window and yelled into the van for him to turn it down. Ah the joys, but it was only one night.

The camp shop is pretty useful, if a little steeply priced (Milk 45p a pint, freezer pack service 25p a pack, whatever the size and no, you can't put a couple of tiny ones in a bag and call it one large pack).

On the other hand, the little cafe is reasonable and the food quite good. There is also a range of secondhand books and games available to borrow in exchange for a donation to the RNLI.

The site is supposed to be 5 star. I admit we did pick the busiest time to visit: the August Bank Holiday, but although the loos were cleaned a couple of times a day, it wasn't very thorough and there was often the same patches of mud (?) spatter still there from one day to the next. (But the cleanliness is also down to the people using the facilities)

The hot water ran out quite quickly so the basins and showers ran cold more often than not by the time we went over for a shower at 9:00 am (well, we WERE on holiday).

When we tried again later (at about 11:00), the water was sometimes too hot! As the showers only have a simple on/off tap and seemingly no temperature control, one could easily go from cold to scalding and back to cold in a single shower. - Mums & Dads with small kiddies take care!

TV reception is quite good (Terrestrial analogue, anyway)

In summary it's a handy site for a quick stopover on the way to or from the ferry and the cafe means you can have a reasonable meal without unpacking the stove etc. We'll possibly be back again, but for a longer break we'd think twice about going there over a bank holiday or in a real peak season.

Nearby, St Margaret-at Cliffe and the bay below are quite pleasant. There's a long walk signposted from the beach up and around the clifftops.

Deal, Sandwich and Hythe are all worth a visit.

Parking in the area seems pretty reasonable and you generally don' have to pay after 5:00 pm.

The pier in Deal isn't up to much, but the town itself is quite interesting. Don't be put off is you can't find the first "Town Trail" information board (by the pier) - follow round and you should find most of the rest. The town centre has enough quirky shops to browse around and a weekly(?) car boot sale-cum-market

Hythe was a must for the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. Big boys toyz!

Get the all-day ticket (£10.90) and you can get on and off whenever you like (there are several stations along the 12 mile run) and it also includes entrance to the Toy Museum and Model Railway at Hythe Station. (See if you can spot the rat, the boy with his head in the railings and the monkey). The town, whilst not specacular, is also worth a wander around.

The end of the line at Dungeness is a bit of a dissapointment: It's a quite bleak, flat expanse of shingle fields with a lot of basic holiday bungalows, an abandoned industrial unit, two lighthouses, a small cafe, a pub and a dirty great powed station (not open to visitors).

Sandwich was quaint and worth a walk round. Not much in the way of shops, but pretty enough. Parking in the Quay car park is pay and display, but, in the road alongside, the single yellow line restrictions don't apply on Sunday. The town's walls and ramparts are worth an explore, as is the park at the edge of the town. We were lucky enough to coincide our visit with the town's mediaeval fair, which was quite entertaining and a chance to try some "real mediaeval food", which was.interesting.

We found this site lovely, it was clean and well maintained. The tents are in the bottom fields and the warden is located right by this, he has dogs but they are generally quiet and to be honest they give an extra peace of mind! Hot water at all times of the day, even when busy and free showers. There is a cafe at the entrance that serves breakfast and snacks throughout the day and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We would stay here again without a doubt.

We use this site once or twice a year and it remains consistent in it's clean and tidy nature. The toilet and shower blocks are well maintained and generally there is plenty of hot water. If you are in a tent without a hook up then you will be using the large and slightly sloping fields towards the rear of the site. These are divided into roughly three areas by hedging and you can pitch where you like.
There is a train line running along the outside of the site but the train noise is minimal. In fact the track repair team made more noise than the trains during the last visit (noise carries very well at 3am !) There isn't a play area for kids but our four year old finds more than enough to do. There are also plenty of beaches and three castles in the area to visit. All in all a nice basic site.
