This is a long site that runs along the edge of a railway embankment for part of its boundary. It is well landscaped with plenty of trees and bushes. The area for tents is at the far end of the site. We chose a pitch away from the railway embankment and were not disturbed at all by trains. The facilities are fairly modern and well kept. Hot water is free. The entrance to the site has an automatic barrier for which a card is required so its probably best to make the proprietor aware if you are planning to arrive after 6:00pm. The nearby pub is basic but benefits from being within easy walking distance - take a torch if you will be returning after dark as there are no street lights. The location is good for visiting Dover Castle, Deal Castle and Walmer Castle. We particularly liked Sandwich, which is a quaint, small town. You can park at St. Margaret's Bay and take a footpath up and over the cliffs. From the top you get a good view of the French coast and, when it is clear, the view seems to extend to the Belgian coast as well.

We stayed for one night ready to catch the ferry to Calais early in the morning. The staff were very friendly and there was plenty of room to pitch. The pub down ther road was excellent. We will be using Hawthorn Road again on the journey to our annual pilgrimage to the continent.

Just got back from Dover and a weekend at Hawthorn. The site was really good with probably the best and cleanest toilet/washing/shower facilities that I've ever been to. Looks a really well organised site but served our main purpose as it was only 5 minutes drive to the port. The railway has been mentioned before in reviews and I can confirm that it is there and it is loud but relatively infrequent. Overall very happy and will be going back

We came to Hawthorn Park for a five-day stay and were pleased with the site and the surrounding area. The park was clean and appeared well managed by friendly staff. The Toilets and Showers were good with lovely hot water. These facilities were fine but beginning to show their age. Pitches were not laid out uniformly so it was possible to select a space according to your tastes, for example bordered by low laurel hedges or on open grass. The nightly price was quite high, but there was a 10% discount if you stayed for four nights or over. The lady working in the shop was especially pleasant, and could be relied upon to provide sandwiches or a full breakfast. Breakfast was good value at £2.95 each.
There appeared to be a rapid turnover of campers with many people using the site as a last or first night in England when travelling through Dover by Ferry. Beware if you arrive after 21:00 you have to spend the first night in the arrival field, and you will be unable to get to your desired pitch, until the next day.
Hawthorn Park is situated within three minutes walking distance of a pub called The Ugly Duckling, and the nearby local railway station of Martin Mill. This Pub served bar simple bar meals and was basic but pleasant. The other pub, the Old Lantern was about 10 minutes walk along an unlit lane (the walk was quite worrying after dark). The meals served there were less basic and correspondingly dearer, although not bad value. A must is a short car trip to nearby St Margaret’s Cliff and the beach (and yet another pub called The Coastguard).
It was great to use the reliable trains to travel in Kent without the need to take the car, but not so good to hear them run next to the site late at night and early in the mornings. In fairness due to the abundance or trees on the site, there was more noise from the exuberant pigeons and crows in the early morning, this is a country location after all!
In summary a good site in a nice rural location with easy access to pubs and rail travel.

B/holiday...When we arrived at the site we was told to pitch anywhere we liked we found a big pitch. Looked around the site, very nice, the only downfall was that there was no play park for the kids. Showers and the toilets was great very clean ,the shop could do with more stuff to sell but we had a great time there ...

March 2005 We'd visited a few times before and been impressed by the cleanliness and quality of the facilities, together with the space available in the tent field (without hookups). This time we went with friends and despite telephoning first to make sure the place was running (following a brief spell of bad weather) we were only allowed to set up in a very small area close to the entrance as the field was "not open yet". This was right next to the access road so was pretty hairy for us with our toddler. It seems part of the old tent field has been given over to statics and I didn't feel tents were being encouraged?
The facilities remained excellent as always. A gentleman at reception said we were welcome to stay later then usual on leaving day but when we handed over the pass card to the (owner?)lady, she was surly and said she would have charged us extra!!! We would have been happy to pay a bit extra if asked. Feeling a bit put off by this and hope to read soon that things have improved for old fashioned tent camping. I should say that the people running the shop were great and we did have a good time here and not disturbed by trains unduly.

June 2003 We booked in at short notice, with no problems. The site was very clean & tidy, has a good shop, the owners are V friendly, facilities are well maintained & clean and there are two good pubs within walking distance. The train runs on an embankment above the site so you can't really escape it, but the it's is either pulling into or out of the station so it's not going very fast and so isn't too noisy, and you can have fun waving at the poor commuters who are off to work while you're sitting in the sun (hopefully) having breakfast. We'll definitely be going back.

July 2003 Despite being a big site many of the pitches are well divided - some individually hedged, others in small landscaped bays of 10 or so pitches so you get the facilities associated with a big site with the feel of more privacy. The pub down the lane does good bar meals. We have been using this site regularly - mainly because of its good access to the ferry port and have never been disappointed. The trian noise is the site's only disadvantage but the plus side of the railway line is that there is a service into London from the nearby village station which makes a good day trip. The trains dont run over night but the commuter services start early in the morning.

June 2002 Apart from the train that runs every hour until 11 o'clock at night its a lovely site with the best washing and shower facilities and they make you feel very welcome. The pub down the road The Ugly Duckling does a good pint as well
