Stayed at Birch Bank Farm for a long weekend in August. The location is great, 15 min to Chester Zoo, 5 min to park and ride for shopping in Chester. 5 min to Sainsburys. 15 minutes walk to either Ring O’Bells in Christleton (upmarket, very nice food), or The Plough (more reasonable pricing, proper pub but beware stop serving food earlier). We were on our wedding anniversary so I booked in advance for a meal at Ring O’Bells on the Saturday night.
Facilities are limited, but the owners are a friendly bunch and Judy in particular made sure we had a great stay. Chester races were on by coincidence and the site was quite busy but I had no problems waiting for shower or toilet. My wife on the other hand caused a little bit of a wait for some as she found the rather weak shower difficult to rinse her hair properly. This is the only gripe and if they can see a way round to adding another shower or beefing up the current ones then there won’t be much you could find fault with.
Overall we were very pleased and had an excellent weekend. 3 nights with EHU for £40.50, warm sunshine on the Saturday, a lovely anniversary meal, and listening to England win the Ashes – BARGAIN.

Looked for a quiet site for a weekend away, 2 of us and the dog and what a site this was. Found through this website and booked over the phone. Very helpful on arrival.
The site overlooks fields and is partially in an orchard, its quite small and the owners are very friendly. One toilet and shower each for men and women but never had to queue and the site looked quite busy. These were always clean and fresh.
Excellent pub in Christleton which others have mentioned, fantastic food and real ales. Not cheap, but well worth the money.
Easy access to Chester, Ellesmere Port and North Wales (if you want to drive) and some good local attractions including the ice cream farm.
Excellent site all round and will be going back!

We have just returned from a great 6 day visit from this lovely little site, we went as a party of 11 kids and 5 adults and we all really enjoyed our stay, the children just loved making dens in the trees and having fun ball games.
The family were very helpful and were very keen to make us feel as welcome as possible. The kids loved Jake the dog, the moggy and the calves who live there!
The site itself is set in beautiful countryside and we took a walk to Christleton where there is a pub and a newsagents, a short drive away with directions given very kindly to us from Judy, we found a fantastic 'water park' with sprinklers that the children spent hours getting soaked! as it was a hot day the children had a ball ! even better it was free! with a little shop selling ice lollies.
Overall a great family site.We will definitely be back ! (look out for the amazing sunflowers they are gorgeous!)

We booked this site following a spur of the moment decision to go away for the weekend.
I telephoned the site and requested a pitch with EHU for our tent as was told that was no problem.
On arrival we were met by a very friendly man who directed us to the camping field and advised to go to the farmhouse to be told where to pitch. We were given a choice of pitches and told where the water, showers and loos were. We opted for a pitch between two caravans offering us a good view of the site.
The showers when we were there were spotless and the toilets were too. There is only one toilet and shower in the gents and ladies alike , however there never seemed to be a queue. The washing up sinks were spotless too and we had hot water each time we used them. It would be nice if they were covered, but we managed. The site operates a recycling scheme and plastic, glass and paper has to be separated into clearly marked bins. Although there were lots of units on the site it was quite and did not seem crowed at all.
There is a great Chinese restaurant that does take away food on High Street, tarvin approx 2 miles away and there is a little convenience store there too. On A51 just a few hundred yards past the turn off for the site there is a BP garage.
We had a lovely walk into Christleton and had a well-earned drink in the pub there. There is also a Newsagent in Christleton, however we did not see any other shops. A beautiful walk back to the site via the well signposted public footpaths through the fields.
Just off the A51 / A55 roundabout there is a park and ride for Chester.
To call this site a basic campsite seems an insult. The facilities are more than adequate and it is a beautifully secluded site and the owners are very friendly.

Spent weekend at this site as its very well situated to visit Chester (3 miles). This site is very very basic. The ladies toilet/shower was full of leaves when we arrived. Was pleased we had electric hook up though and full facilities in our caravan so we didnt need to use site facilities. Thought it was very expensive at £12.50 per night.

My Route to the Camp Site:
I arrived at Chester Train Station early afternoon and decided to walk from the station to the camp site as it has been a while since I had done any backpacking. My route took me via the small village of Guilden Sutton and I had a well earned pint in the Bird inHand (please note this pub closes at 3 p.m. And re-opens early evening -presumably about 7p.m.).
My second village was Great Barrow and there is a stunning little church there - St Bartholemew's. It was open when I arrived (as they were having an open day) and well worth the visit for the interior and especially the stained glass windows.
My Arrival:
Finally I arrived at the site via the many footpaths the area has to offer. This area is great for walking, it is not very hilly but it is very green with small villages dotted about, so you are never very far from civilisation. The Farm and campsite was well signposted.
After asking another camper I was told to knock on the door. I was greeted by a young lady who showed me to my pitch, underneath an apple tree! She was very polite and friendly and did not insist I paid her straight away. To camp for 1 night was only £6.50. After I pitched my tent I paid the lady and she told me about the pubs that serve food in the area.
Local Area:
If you visit this camp site do take time to visit the charming village of Christleton. It has won numerous awards for best kept village over the last few years and is a photographer's paradise. I wanted to eat at the Ring O' Bells but due to a function that evening they weren't serving any.
The Plough (Public House):
The plough (just half a mile from the camp site (in Plough Lane believe it or not) was my second choice (Straight down Stamford Lane and turn left). This is a charming little pub and the dining area would put many restaurants to shame. The starters were priced at around £5 and main courses started from £7.00 (up to £15). Where possible many of the meals were made from local meat and fish. The food was cooked to perfection and waitresses were very polite and pleasant. It seemed very quiet for a Saturday Night(then again I am used to queueing for 15 minutes to be served on a Saturday)
The Site itself:-
The site was very basic. The men's block just had 1 shower, 1 toilet and 1 wash hand basin. I didn't have to queue though. There is a separate area for washing your dishes albeit al fresco! The staff were friendly and the area is ideally situated for country walks, the Shropshire Union Canal and of course Delamere Forest. If you do like walking obtain details of the Baker Way (Chester Train Station to Delamere Forest). Part of the route is not far from the camp site.
Overall a very enjoyable stay although the camp site was a little basic.

Myself and my family consisting of my husband and 2 young girls were camping virgins. We managed to get to this campsite by chance and pleaded with the lovely owners to let us stay one night. The campsite was large and very friendly with a lovely doggie called Jake who was brilliant with the children. On arrival there were some lovely families setting up camp too. They had children and as soon as they were introduced, my children were off playing whilst me and my husband did the hard work of putting up the tent. It was a brilliant experience. Although it was basic it was fantastic. The weather was lovely as well. Can't fault it at all. Was very sad to leave. So much so that we are going back in 3 days time, this time for 2 nights. The place is lovely. One toilet and one shower each for male and female. Running hot water to wash pots up in. Easy to find and not too far from local attractions. The owners were so friendly as were everyone else who was there. We have all had a fantastic weekend and my children are worn out which never happens. Can't fault it at all. Thank you so much for a lovely stay. Five star review.

We have just spent a very enjoyable 2 nights here. The shower in the ladies now has a cover on the window! Toilet was clean but sometimes without paper! Very nicely kept, quiet site, very reasonably priced. Wonderful take-away/eat in pizza/fish chip shop (only 2 tables with 3 seats each though) in Waverton village. My 5 girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The Cheshire Candle Workshops and Cheshire Ice Cream Factory were our favourite visits, about 5 miles away from site. Will visit again as it is only 30 minutes from home.

Nice and quiet campsite, very friendly owner. Very basic and only one toilet and one shower for females and the same for the males apart from the female has a window in the shower which overlooks the road and a couple of small windows at the top are not frosted which annoyed me a bit but I simpy hung my towel on the pipe and that worked fine, the bathroom is cleaned twice a day and I dont enjoy spending my time in there but its no problem. The campsite's great for kids who like to kick a ball around but there are no facilities, although a short drive away there are many things to do. Very cheap at £4 a tent for a night then £2 a night for an adult then £1 for a child- under 5's go free!

Am I the only person that finds a full length, unfrosted, uncurtained window IN the ladies shower a bit wrong? Particularly as it overlooks the road! Toilet and shower facilities terrible and a power cut meant that we didn't get the use of the hook up which we still had to pay for!
