What a gem this site and town are; a little off the beaten track of the Dales but the area has a charm all of its own.
The site is simple, but nice, with well laid out plots of mostly a good size and plenty of trees, so you don't feel lined up for inspection as you do on some more regimented types of sites.
There are 2 toilet blocks which are adequate and kept very clean. The wardens are very friendly and work really hard to keep the place tidy. We appreciated them enforcing the 11 pm quiet rule as being half term week it was full and could have got too noisy otherwise.
The site adjoins the local park which is beautifully laid out by a large shallow river, so ideal for children to visit along with the play area. Great for dogs too.
Clitheroe is a pretty place with a castle and pubs and good local shops and definitely the sort of town you can enjoy a wander in. The Dales are 45 mins away too if you fancy bigger hills to walk in.
Great place to visit; I recommend it especially for families but I think all ages would enjoy this site and town.

We stayed on this site last October when the weather was beautiful. The warden gave us a choice of a sunny or shaded pitch and then guided us to a nice pitch amongst the trees.
The site is pleasantly situated near the river, with a riverside path easily accessible through a small gate. There are plenty of walks - leaflets are available from tourist info. In Clitheroe.
We found the toilets and showers always clean and tidy. Dave and Cathy, the wardens, were always busy and the grass was kept neat, rubbish emptied regularly and we always got a friendly greeting whenever we met either of them. By weekend the site was full but still the atmosphere was relaxed and quiet though there was no shortage of children or dogs! We think this is a well-run site and are looking forward very much to going there again.

Lovely site next to the river ribble within walking distance of clitheroe town centre. The pitches were a bit waterlogged but it was a very wet month so couldn't be helped
Clitheroe has a good selection of shops and supermarkets and your not far from the forest of bowland if you wish to venture farther afield
The wardens were very helpful and friendly .
Will be return again

Lovely site, very clean and well run.
Lovely walk into Waddington and we can highly recommend the Waddington Arms - fabulous.
Pitches do slope, but we managed to level our trailer tent.
Wardens helpful and friendly, but won't bend from the rules, even if they could!

On arrival we were impressed with the campsite as it appeared lovely and quiet. The warden was very strict with the pitching which meant we were practically having tea with the neighbours! The pitch was quite boggy in places and to close together although on the other side of the camp we noticed the spaces between were bigger. The pitch we were on was also sloping - not a problem for us but would be for a tent. The campsite itself was very quiet and ideal for anyone wanting a quiet retreat. The surrounding area is beautiful with Clitheroe not to far away and there are some lovely walks to be had, especially river walks, in the area. The warden was very unbending when it came to rules and regulations and I personally found him to be quite rude at times. The toilets and shower block were of a reasonable standard - adequate and generally clean. We would definitely visit this area again but would definitely use a different campsite.

Had a great stay at this site - booked hard standing forgetting that C&CC hard standing is basically still grass based but with a plastic mesh under it - not gravel as on some sites, so the ground was still boggy in places, however our pitch was fine and when I rang to confirm it was still ok to come with all the rang etc they said they had to cancel the grass pitches so we were lucky. Facilities good and very clean and tidy, bins, water & grey waste all together, good lighting at night but not intrusive. Laundry facs good too.Wardens extremely helpful and friendly, nothing too much trouble.Kids loved the park and the train and went to the pool everyday. Tesco & Sainsburys in Clitheroe and lots of curry places & chippies plus McD's on the Preston road. Good day out at Skipton with canal boats trips. We will be back!

We have just had our first weekend at the Clitheroe Camping & Caravanning Club Site and would heartily recommend it to everyone.
This site is lovely - we were lucky to be on an embankment surrounded by wildlife as some of the pitches in the middle of the site are a little close together, but it is a very popular site and for good reason.
The site is very clean although the facilities are looking a little dated. However they are nice and clean and the bins etc are central and well organised. A downside to this site is that there is absolutely no budging the Wardens on the leaving at 12 noon rule on the Sunday. This spoiled things for us a little as we wanted to pay the extra £8 and stay on all day but they would not let us. So we arrived at 7pm on the Friday, paid for 2 nights and had to leave at 12 noon on the Sunday making our weekend rather short.
There is plenty to do off site as it is right next to a council maintained stretch of river which the kids can paddle in, fish in, sail in a rubber dingy in. There is also a cafe, ice cream van and childrens play area there. However be warned this gets like Blackpool on a hot weekend - it was absolutely packed this weekend with local families so not as peaceful and tranquil as you might hope.
But we loved it and will be back - might have to pay for Sunday night as well to ensure that we can stay all day on the Sunday. Forewarned is forearmed as they say!

Beautifully kept site in a tranquil location. Next to a large park and the river Ribble with plenty of choice of gentle walks. Clitheroe is only about a mile away with shops, pubs, restaurants and a swimming pool. I arrived early and am not a Camping and Caravan Club member but the warden couldn't have been more accommodating or helpful and set me up on a great pitch. There were a mixture of caravans, motor-homes and tents. TV and Mobile reception was good and pubs with food are close by. The site has a motor-home service point although manoeuvring on to it when you leave is a bit tricky as it involves reversing into the site and turning. Best to stop and fill up when you drive on. My only minor gripe is that the toilets and showers although spotless are looking a bit tired. Nevertheless its a site I will definitely return to.

June 2005 We have just had our 2nd weekend at the Clitheroe Camping & Caravanning Club Site. This site is so tranquil and picturesque, you could be anywhere. The site is spotless with well maintained pitches and all the facilities you need for a truly memorable camping trip. This site will appeal to all age groups. There is plenty to do at the site with the adjorning recreation area, which includes a river, ideal for fishing, swimming, paddling, feeding the 100s of hungry ducks, etc.. etc, there is a minature steam & electric railway, which at 30p a go for twice round the track is great fun for the children. a shop for ices and sundries is opposite the river. A pitch & putt is next to the site. Within a mile is clitheroe town centre, with its 3 supermarkets, pubs, shops etc.. what more can you ask for. we will deffo be going again. Its a credit to the team who run it.

May 2005 When we arrived we were diappointed that our pitches had not been reserved together as requested in advance. he pitch given to us was poor the grass had not been cut and had large bare patches that turned to mud in the rain.
However this is a lovely site but the grounds were not tended to usual c&c club sites standards. The shower blocks are kept clean and no shortage of hot water there is a laundry room and even a pegging out area. You can feeze ice blocks at reception but it is 40p a block.
The location is great, close to the river with small play ground and large field for ball games and a pitch and putt, the near by village of Waddington is lovely with good pubs. Clitheroe has all the required amenities and the swimming pool opposite is great for kids on a wet day.
Could do with somewhere for arrivals to park up so the those already on site can get in past the barrier. Will visit again but will take the name of the person taking the booking as confirmation of requirments.
