Just got back from 3rd visit to this campsite in past year. Sites like this are hard to come by, if you really want to get away from it all, this is the place. The site is lovely, set around two fishing lakes. As soon as you arrive you feel instantly relaxed. It is mostly caravans but they take tents, they never over pack it. We rang last minute last August bank holiday and got a pitch, no problem. Its a quiet peaceful site, so not the place for any parties!

Its adult only, but there can be the odd child there but they are always well behaved.

The showers and toilets are nice and it is a very well maintained site. There are no other facilities but as long as you come well stocked up or are prepared to go a few miles to a shop there is no need for anything else.

George, who runs the site is great, always friendly and helpful but lets you get on with it also. Never met his wife but she is always lovely to talk to on the phone.

Nearby there is the old railway track which has been made into a footpath - you can get off at various villages and it goes all the way to Lincoln - 9 miles. Harby has a nice pub - Bottle and Glass - is a bit pricey but very nice. There is a nice pub with good prices in Saxilby though nearby which we havent tried yet.

I cannot rate this site enough, I will continue to go back there year after year!

This is our third year at Lakeside. It is an adults only site, set between Newark, Lincoln, Gainsborough and Saxilby, so there are plenty of opportunities for shopping, eating out, sightseeing, etc.

There is a fantastic carvery at Gainsborough right by the River Trent (ask George or Doreen and they'll give you the details) but if you don't want to travel that far Saxilby is only 5 minutes drive away for good takeaways, a small, well stocked supermarket, a great butchers and a handy chemist.

The site itself is a haven of peace and tranquility. That may sound like a cliche, but believe me, it's true. You can pitch right along side either of the two well stocked, well maintained fishing lakes, and as long as you've got food in the fridge, you won't have to move for days.

The toilet and shower block are second to none. If ever you find them not up to scratch, it's because a careless camper has left them that way. Remember, you are allowed to wipe your feet on the mats by the doors, they're not just there for decoration! And water is as easy to mop up as it is to spill! If you can't leave the facilities as you found them, you don't deserve to use them. Right, that's me off me soap box, back to where I was. There are disabled facilities and a small bungalow suitable for disabled if you don't have a tent or caravan. A 4 berth self contained static caravan is in the proccess of being set up on the site, it should be ready soon.

There are electric hookups to every pitch if you need it, and there are some hard standing pitches, though most are on grass.

Lakeside also has storage facilities, when available, in the form of a secure compound just inside the grounds.

There's a brilliant tackle shop not far away at Lincoln - my husband seems to think it's a day out! - you can combine it with a trip to the supermarket and make one journey do.

Abide by the speed limits set on the site (very important as there is a lot of wildlife in the area), keep dogs under control, use barbless hooks, and you will enjoy a stay in one of the most tranquil places we have ever been.
