This basic campsite is a unspoilt rolling field just a few minutes walk from the South Downs Way and initially promised a tranquil weekend, taking in wide views to the west and no road noise.
Easy to pitch and with random firepit scars, we settled down and ordered wood for the pit. Unfortunately as it turned out, too close to a large group of campers who partied into the night on Friday and Saturday.
This can happen when there is a hands off approach from the farmer, the site is cheap to stay in and its a beautiful summer weekend! I like to think people can still be considerate, so come on guys, follow the camping rules and keep it quiet after sundown.
We will still come back, remembering to fill up our water before getting into the field and choosing a place to pitch carefully.

As others have said, a fantastic place to get away from it all. All you get are well maintained, and surprisingly clean porta-loos, water tap and a lot of peace and quiet. Great place for a one or two night stay.
Fantastic views and a campfire in the evening - real camping. Yes, it is a long and bumpy track, but if you come prepared there is no need to leave during your stay, plenty of walks on the doorstep, or just sit outside and enjoy the view and peace.
(I can only give 1 out of 10 for facilities, as there are none to speak of - but that is a positive in this case!)

Lovely basic site in the middle of nowhere. Water and portaloos only.
Open fields, woods, campfires and just the planes heading to and from Gatwick as entertainment.
No phone signal, no wifi, perfect for a peaceful getaway.
Track to the site is flinty and potholed, take care and try to drive on the ridges. Well worth it though.

We stayed here before a wedding and chose this site based on its location 5 miles from the venue.
We knew there would be very few facilities here so chose to relocate to another site with showers, plumbing etc. I am glad I only had to bring my car up the track twice, it is a proper farm track and not suitable for cars with little ground clearance!
If you want to get away from it all, are totally self sufficient and want total isolation then this site would be perfect. If you want a certain level of comfort when you go camping then this is not the site for you

We had a lovely time at New House Farm Campsite, the location is amazing, perfect to get away from it all and back to nature. You won't want to leave the site for the duration of your stay, just sit back with a campfire and relax.
Make sure you explore the surrounding area as there are lots of lovely walks to be had from the woods adjoining the site.
There is a quite a long journey (10 mins)up the track to the camping fields so plan to bring with you what you need.
Its about a 15 minute drive to Chichester or the other way to Midhurst once your out of the farm and there is also a lovely pub in East Dean if you don't fancy cooking

The first thing I remember about this site was the silence as we got out of the van. A beautiful site away from everything and the world. The views are incredible from most spots on the site. The surrounding woodland is spectacular and the perfect place to chill out in dappled shade if the weather is too hot. The woods also offer a great opportunity for foraging and mushroom hunting.
The toilet facilities are basic and there are no showers but this is far outweighed by the pros mentioned above. (We have a solar shower so are self-sufficient in this sense).
Farmer Steve is a very nice chap.
I have been back many years on the trot and I still absolutely love the place! A perfect place to get away from it all.

A beautiful spot with magnificent views, plenty of space and easy access from the main road. Great for quiet, rural, proper camping; don't expect 5 star facilities - this is a working farm that gives you the fabulous opportunity to camp on their land during good weather and the high season but you can rely on clean portable loos.
You come here because it is a special place, run by people with integrity in a beautiful part of the country with much to offer. You won't be camping cheek by jowl, spending a fortune or having to suffer groups of under 21s but you will find this value for money and an authentic experience.
Highly recommended.

This was a Great location. The surrounding scenery is Beautiful with fields as far as the eye can see. It really does feel a great way to escape from the hustle and bustle.
The pubs nearby serve some lovely food and on site there is Access to fresh water. The site itself has Loads of open space and was essentially a huge field with surrounding woodland that was great to explore.
We even found some wild raspberries. Van drove more easily around edges of the fields.

This has to be our favourite campsite in the South Downs. Perfectly located with magnificent views. Very good pubs within walking distance. We regularly hike the South Downs way and love waking up in this part of natures paradise, a must for all hikers and campers alike!
Very easy to book, staff very friendly! Have just got back from our 3rd weekend here and will definitely book again!

If you want to get away from it all then this is the site for you. The site is a very large field within a valley on the southern side of the South Downs escarpment. It is wooded on 3 sides and is not flat, but there are some flattish areas at the top of the field and at the sides. There was a large party at the top of the field, we camped part way down on the western side of the site and could not see the other tents - complete privacy in middle of a huge field. Frankly the aspect is fabulous - but be warned there are very few facilities, in fact porta-loos and that's it! I must admit we didn't research this site properly, so no complaints, except for the filthy toilets that didn't flush properly and the mounds of rubbish in plastic bags that had been torn open by animals with rotting food etc strewn all over the ground around the toilet area! Oh and the exorbitant price for staying on the site, which was a beautiful spot in the South Downs - but £15 for 1 night for 2 adults and a small tent?
As for local facilities, I did say this is the place to go if you want to get away from it all. The site is at the end of a long farm track/dirt road - one way in, one way out. There is a lovely country pub, The Star and Garter, in East Dean village, 2 miles away, but that's it. The pub does quite up market food, fairly expensive but not overly so, it's not quite a gastro-pub. If you're cooking for yourself, fires can be lit anywhere in the field, so it really is the place to go to get back to nature. If you know what to expect and are prepared for it - wonderful. Otherwise, steer clear.
