What a little gem this site is! Overlooks the loch and has a brilliant dog walk for 3/4 of a mile along the lochside so pooch can have full run of the place. The wardens were brilliant, showed us to our pitch and were very knowledgeable about the area. Small on site shop sold basics including some lovely duck eggs. Nearest town is Dunvegan about 10miles away.
There is no TV reception here unless you have a satellite dish, no internet or no mobile reception for us. Now I'm a communications nut but I have to admit that the 3 days we were here I didn't miss any of my modern gadgets and the intense darkness (no light pollution whatsoever) and quiet at night made for deep refreshing sleeps.
Facilities are small (only 2 showers in ladies) but very clean so can't complain.
I would return here without hesitation and recommend it to anyone looking for a get away from the modern world type holiday. Ace

Lovely site overlooking Loch Greshornish. Good pitches, some with excellent views. Site also has camping pods, different and good fun. There is a well stocked shop covering most needs.
Toilet block good but understand that it is to be totally refurbished and will have disabled facilities - Update contacted site late 2009 the work is underway and will be completed for the 2010 season. Laundry facilities very good with reasonable charges. No play area but loads of space for kids. Excellent dog walk.
Situation between Portree and Dunvegan, both good for shopping and site seeing. Site is on a bus route or those not wishing to use car or motorhome.

I booked for two nights without checking exactly where it was. It's about as far away from the bridge as you can get - an hours drive or so. Its the most basic CCC site I have been on, the toilet and shower block is just about adequate. The shop/registration office is only open for 2 hours a day and the chap would not sell us anything outside of those hours. There is nothing around the site except for a short walk down the loch. The information point also had no information of any value. We drove down to portree to get information about walks etc. None of the information office recommended walks were anywhere near the campsite!

Arrived here on May 31st - two tents and a caravan - party of five adults and two dogs with two cars.
To say that booking this site was a nightmare is an understatement! You can't book direct before it opens, so have to go through the Camping and Caravanning Club (of which we are long standing members).
First tried to book in late December. Two pitches, one hard stand with electric. By mid February had no booking confirmation and no deposit was taken. Rang Coventry - they had no record of our booking. Tried to book the same - but told that we could not have hard stand for two of the nights in question and would have to move to grass - twice. This was unacceptable so settled for adjacent grass pitches - one with electric. This time they missed off one of the party!
Phoned again to re-instate them; this they did - but then lost our hook-up! When I called two weeks later (the time it took them to send out the re-confirmation), they said that all hook-ups were taken. At this I 'blew my top' and demanded to speak to the Director General. Strangely I was called back 20 minutes later and told that we had a hook up!
When we arrived on site, I was told that we had a 'special' pitch to keep our party together (it was for a special multiple celebration) - right at the back of the site on quite a steep slope! The hook-up was achieved by throwing our lead across a drainage ditch to use the connection on another pitch.
David and Nikki are obviously fairly new to campsite management. We were shown where to go, but offered no help in pitching. Several times other caravans, tent and motorhomes pitched across our access. We therefore had to ask their owners to move their units. Only the tent owners objected -but did move when we said that we would have to drive over them to get out.
We were not the only ones denied the pitch that we thought that we had booked - at least two motorhomes and a caravan also experienced the same problem. There is definitely a major problem with the booking system for this site! (May be partly accounted for in that they have taken two hard standings to install 'camping pods' - which were never used during our stay.)
The site facilities were disappointing. They are certainly not up to Club standards. The showers are small and cramped, with only a small shelf to put your things on. The water was hot though after the first blast. There are only three loos, whilst the urinal became smelly by early evening.
Once settled in the weather was great for the first three days - but the midgies made it impossible to sit outside in the evening - despite the investment in six large citronella candles and three bottles of midge repellent. (They seem immune to the stuff!)
The views are great; virtually every pitch overlooks the loch, which you can walk along for about a kilometer. However the very openness of the site also allows the wind to whistle right across it - which it did for all but the last day of our week there.
There are many things to do at the north of the island, if you are into walking, history and culture. Forget it if you aren't. Skye has no sandy beaches. It's not a place for a kids holiday. (The site has does not have a play area). The Museum of Island Life near Uig is well worth the trip, whilst the little harbour at Portree is quaint. Talisker is a good poor weather venue, but the 10-year malt is £3.65 cheaper in Tesco!
Only major supermarket on the island is the Co-op at Portree; the site does stop small amount of necessities - at a price. Two convenience shops in Dunvegan. Avoid the one nearest the hotel - it's poorly stocked and a rip off.
The Dunvegan Hotel is eight miles from the site and did us an excellent celebration dinner, at just under £30 a head including drinks and three courses. It was well served and excellent. Can recommend the place, but it is necessary to book. It also does bar meals at a much more modest cost. (These you don't need to book).
A car is absolutely necessary. Only four busses a day pass the site (from Portree to Dunvegan); this reduces to three on Saturdays and non-school days.
Skye is supposed to abound with wildlife. Apart from a few seals and the odd buzzard we saw nothing (and we paid for a wildlife safari!) The three Highland cows in the field adjacent to the site do come peer at you sometimes; the male was fascinated by our Jack Russell racing around (the one advantage of our isolated pitch!).
All in all this stay was disappointing. However there are few campsites with facilities on Skye, and this is possibly the best one of a limited selection.

Don’t rely on booking this one over the phone if you are travelling around and are not sure of the dates you wish to stay.
As Camping and Caravanning Club members, we were very disappointed with the response from this site. I rang from North Uist at 9am in the morning to book for three nights with them. There was no reply and I left an answer phone message with my request and mobile number asking them to contact me and confirm or otherwise my booking.
I subsequently rang later in the morning and from the ferry in the afternoon (I had a good mobile signal all day) and always got either the engaged tone or the answer phone. I left a second message with my request and mobile number asking them to contact me and confirm or otherwise my booking, but heard nothing.
When we disembarked late afternoon from the ferry at Uig I rang again to be told;
• Firstly they can’t respond to the answer phone during the day as they are far too busy – and then they had actually responded to my message, but could not get through to my mobile
• Secondly they had just allocated the last pitch to someone and they were sorry – but that was that.
I found their attitude very offhand – they were far, far too busy to be bothered with us or suggest alternatives.

We stayed at the site recently and were very impressed. Nicky and David were so friendly and helpful. We were introduced to Hamish, Eilidh and Susie (highland cattle) also enjoyed fresh eggs for breakfast every morning.
Toilets are well looked after and spotless.
We will be back next year with our tent. Lots more things for us to see and do.

A very welcoming site, the owners Dave and Nicky are very friendly and helpful.
Well maintained toilets and showers, free hot water and plans to extend, from what Nicky said, this may include disabled facilities in the future.
Plenty of midges down near the loch so take head nets etc but some fantastic views, saw seals and sea eagles from the tent.
There seemed to be plenty of hook ups for those who wanted them, the main tent field is slightly sloping in places and there is a dedicated area for dog walks along the loch.
All in, very impressed, clean tidy and ideal for the whole island.

Lovely site. We had a pitch immediately overlooking the loch - idyllic. Nicky very friendly and helpful. Pitches were spacious enough. Toilet and shower facilities, although not luxurious, were spotlessly clean. A great centre for touring the rest of Skye to see the spectacular and ever-varying scenery. Nearest town is Portree which was very busy. If you want to visit, you need to get there early morning or later afternoon, otherwise parking can be a problem. We'd certainly go to Loch Greshornish again.

A great quite site on the loch shore. The owners Dave & Nicky are welcoming , friendly and helpful. Facilities are clean and I believe there are plans ahead to update these. There was no shortage of hook ups and pitches were large enough to ensure privacy. There is no play area for kids but there again is one needed when you have the Skye coastline as your playground
We would definitely visit again and if you like peaceful and natural settings then I would recommend this site.

The setting of this site is lovely. The facilities block was clean but in great need of updating. No room in the showers for clothes to hang and nowhere else to put them! However, there are great plans to upgrade the site which can be viewed in the information room - an excellent service.
The owners are very friendly and helpful although clearly novices in the campsite business - I suspect they are learning fast however.
There is a specific dog walk accessed by a gate in one of the fields. This is the best dog walk ever, and completely fenced (no livestock) therefore dogs can be let off lead without worry. Loads of crinkly coastline and grassy fields - our 2 Deerhounds loved it. There is a dog poo bin with bags provided. 10/10.
The 2 pubs at Edinbane were like the MaryCeleste - closed/deserted. A pity as we had trudged a fair distance being showered by loose chippings as cars etc. Zoomed past at extraordinary speeds. The dogs were terrified and so were we. So - no pub grub available. Good job we had food in the van or we would have starved. The campsite shop is bijou and not terribly well stocked with basics.
We will go again next year as the setting is fantastic.
