Stayed for 1 night on the way to the continent. Quite busy but not noisy, very popular with anglers and convenient for stops off M25. Walked into East horsley village for a fabulous Indian which took about 25 mins but worth it. I wouldn't stay for a week but a cracker for a few nights chilling or a stop over to Dover. Toilet and shower facilities as you would expect. Very good.

First visit to this site and with some trepidation as it had all the ingredients of a disaster in the making. Carp lake, which normally means husbands dumping their wives and kids to go fishing while the latter runs riot. Caravans and camper vans - lots of concrete hard standing and people trollying waste about. Add in the height of the season and changeable weather and it didn't look good.
WRONG - Horsley handled it all very well from the time we arrived to our departure. Helpful staff, toilet block and washing up facilities all good and a nice balance of all types of camping that avoided that overcrowded feeling. This is a big site but has been chopped up in a way that offers something for all types of campers.
Locally there is a lot to do but for us the stand out feature is a walk along the river Wey which is a short drive away. Here you can follow a well defined tow path for a far as you wish past pubs and locks whilst watching the rivers narrow boats chug by.

This is a picturesque site with clean, ample facilities. Helpful staff & good local shops nearby. We enjoyed a walk round a new local nature reserve which can be accessed from a footpath at the rear of the site.
My children enjoyed fishing on the lake & were fascinated by the large flock of ducks that wandered round the site twice a day looking for food. They found the play area uninspiring & didn't use the activity hall because table tennis bats etc had to be loaned from shop which was closed when we wanted them.
I did not feel this site was particularly tranquil, our pitch was in the middle of a small field so I felt very overlooked, also there seemed to be little respect for 11pm noise deadline, I had to get out & ask a neighbour to keep voices down & could hear TV in nearby trailer tent until gone midnight. I feel notices requesting quiet after 11, & a mention in the site rules would be a good idea.
I would consider using this site again but would request a pitch in a more secluded area.

We have been going to this site since June every 2 weeks with my boyfriend and his daughter of 4 years old. Toilet block and shower facilities are great and mostly very clean and even though the children's play area is minimal his daughter loves it. It's in a very nice area and Guildford town for shopping which I love is 15 mins away. There's a few nice pubs which do nice food. There is a large field which you can take your dog on. The fishing lake is good, you can only use bread, luncheon meat and sweetcorn but very easy to catch with this.

We stayed at this campsite for our first experience of camping and really liked it. The site is very well run, the facilities spotlessly clean and the lake is charming.
The two large fields away from the lake seemed to be full of families and large pitches. I found these to be a bit regimented but we were allocated a pitch in the wooded area which I much preferred as it felt a bit more back to nature. They told us they prefer not to put children in this area as it is near the lake and it was mainly couples but there were a few smaller families there (mainly Dad and son pairs who seemed to be here for the fishing).
We took our dog and they had a great dog walk area.
The camp is in a lovely part of Surrey. I would definitely recommend The Plough pub in the next village of Effingham for an excellent lunch.
All in all a great campsite.

We stayed at Horsley for two nights with our two children aged 5 and 6 along with four other families with children of a similar age. What a beautiful campsite! Helped by a wonderful weekend of weather, although I'm sure it's just as lovely in the rain. When we phoned to book the staff were really helpful and did their best to make sure we were all pitched close together to enable us to watch and listen for the children once they'd gone to bed at night. We did however, have no guarantee of being next to each other which was a bit of a nuisance. We ended up being in the same area but with other campers in between although we managed to find a central point at which we could sit and all the tents could be seen and heard at night. The toilet and shower block was spotless and it was so nice to have a shower at a campsite that stayed on for as long as you needed rather than a button that only lasts for 10 seconds at a time. Washing up facilities were great and there were two communal washing lines outside the launderette (1 washer and 1 dryer) which I'm sure would be really handy if staying for a longer period. A few of the men and children took advantage of the fishing which they enjoyed greatly and the lake was really picturesque and peaceful. The children loved this site and for us it was great as they were really safe at all times. There were a parade of lovely shops about one and a half miles from the campsite which included a bakers, a butchers, an off license and a budgens. Perfect for everything you could need! Everyone on site seems to really respect the 11pm noise deadline which was lovely although it wasn't at all noisy before that either. We all loved this site and would rate it as one of our favourite sites visited so far. One complaint I'm afraid. The gentleman that oversees the site and shows you to your pitch is very abrupt in his manner (as indicated in other reviews).

We've visited this lovely site 3 times so far and love it.
OK, so it helps that it's only 45 minutes away from us and so easy as a quick get away location but that aside it is a great place to visit regardless of this.
We struck it lucky on our first visit. Having been stuck on the M25 up near the M11 for 5 hours in a hot mini (the real one) we eventually got to Graffham to find the place very busy. Thanks to this we were put right at the edge of the lake in our little 2 man tent and so were able to position it so that when we woke up we could flap it open and gaze out over a misty lake with ducks quacking and flapping.
The best place to pitch is under the trees but I believe that this is a no children zone as the only times we were able to pitch there were without our nephews.
The facilities are excellent and the shop perfectly good.
The staff have always been very friendly.
Obviously if you are a fisherman then there is a bonus here as the lake has a LOT of very hungry Carp milling around waiting to munch your offering. Fishermen note that at the time of writing only luncheon meat, bread and sweetcorn are allowed as bait. And no groundbaiting or floating bait.

We have just come back from 2 lovely days camping at Horsley, our 1st camping trip with 2 children under 6. The lake and woodland was beautiful, really peaceful with all the fishing going on. Our children had a wonderful time feeding the ducks and fish, and generally playing lots of outdoor games and getting lots of fresh air. We had very good weather which always helps. The staff we really friendly and helpful, as were all the other campers and caravanners we met. The toilets and showers were clean and warm and there was a good baby changing room with a large sink big enough to wash/bath a baby in.
The kids play area was small with only 1 swing and a slide, but all the kids seemed happy enough with this as they and made new friends at the play area then ended up playing football tennis etc with all their own equipment nearby
I would definitely go back again, and would recommend the site to anyone new to camping. Next time we will bring bikes for the kids, as it seemed a safe place for kids to cycle round.

We were recommended this site by friends and it was the first time I'd taken my two young children camping. We only stayed for one night and all in all we had a nice stay. The site is immaculate and the showers and toilets very clean. The staff were very helpful and the small shop caters well for most essentials. There's also a large pond near the entrance (you certainly couldn't call it a lake) for you to fish on.
However if you really want to do some proper camping then this isn't really for you. The place is neat and tidy but has a very clinical feel to it. They also shut the loos between 11am and 1pm for cleaning (it really takes 2 hours??!) The children's play area consists of two swings and a log surrounded by bark, infact I’m not sure if the bark was meant to be played with as well. Anyway the 30 or so children who were queuing up for a chance to sit on the log didn't look that impressed. Some gave up and trudged back to their tents. We then visited the 'activity hall'. This consisted of one table tennis table without bats or balls or net and about 20 plastic tables each with four chairs. There were also two dartboard cupboards. One cupboard was open but didn't have a dartboard and the other one was bolted shut (there must have been a dartboard in that one, but it probably didn't have any darts). We could have rounded up some of the older clientele and sat them down on those plastic chairs for a game of bingo but we didn't have a bingo machine. Maybe that's something that the owners should invest in because in its current state the hall's fit for nothing else.
This site is ideal for one or two nights and everyone seemed very pleasant. The clientele are mainly oldies and maybe that's why it's like it is. Would I stay again - definitely but we'd bring another log for the playground.

Lovely site, good sized pitches and not to regemental on setting out awning etc. Fairly safe for children to ride around and the lake with the ducks is beautiful and loads of fishing going on. R eally handy for the National Trust properties and just relaxing. The facilities were good and clean and there were plenty of hookup and the pitches were prebooked which was good especially with friends and relatives. Good childrens playarea for small children. This site has been going years My father used to go in the 1950's !
