We visited this site many times over the years.

The site is only 4-5 miles out of whitby. It's a great location for exploring Heartbeat country. The toilets could do with updating, and are cleaned to a high standard, although a combination of high season and not well-draining ground can mean that it does get muddy in between cleans.

The dog walks are excellent, although on our more recent visits, dogs must be kept on leads on the walk, which in my opinion, kind of defeats the object of the walks being 'off site'.

We have not visited since the new toilet block was installed. The reason we stopped visiting was because the site was gearing more and more towards the season pitches, and we felt that 'real' tourers were a bit of a nuisance for the new wardens. By the way, the hook up is only 10amp so do be aware that you may not be able to have all your creature comforts switched on at the same time!

All in all this site is fab.

We have just returned from a long weekend at Ladycross - our first ever trip in a touring caravan.

The site was very busy and our pitch was somewhat small - although it was the only site in the area that had space at short notice for the weekend we needed.

We were very happy with the site - the two toilet blocks were clean and well maintained. One block is much newer than the other and I was pleased this was the closest to our caravan.

Despite the lack of a playground, the children had a great time on site. There are plenty of natural playgrounds to keep them busy - building camps in the trees and generally enjoying the freedom.

The site is very handy for Whitby (too busy in the school holidays to enjoy properly), but definitely try the other beach areas around. Also very close to the North York Moors Railway and lovely villages like Ruswarp where the children enjoyed rowing on the river as well as the crazy golf and lovely cafe.

I think we would definitely go back to Ladycross again, but book a little further in advance to get more space on the pitch.

Just got back from a very wet weeks break. Site ok but didn't cope with the amount of rain we had and soon become very boggy. When arrived on site we were shown to our pitch, wardens seemed fine. Toilets and showers ok nice and clean, with plenty of free hot water. The site does have quite a few rules which they will soon tell you if you break them. The dog walk was ok but very muddy and wet, dogs to stay on the lead at all times. Seems to have a lot of seasonal pitches. Nice layout, could do with more hardstanding car parking as we were not allow to park on the grass as so wet. Egton village is nice with a good pub which allows dogs in the bar and great meals (homecooked). Would say a little too far for walking as no footpath and quite a fast road.

Beware that this site works to office hours and has a security bar at the gate - management is not keen on new arrivals after 5.30pm. They are keen on unnecessary 'don't' notices everywhere too. Despite that, they were friendly and showed us to our pitch. Big site but it doesn't feel like it, because it's made up of many glades in a pine / birch / oak forest up on the moor.
Good dog walks in the woods and out onto the heather moor where there are super views. Showers are free; soap is provided; hot air drier ineffective and no paper towels; though the toilet blocks are clean, the original block is a tad tired.
A short drive from Whitby and the pretty villages along the coast. Nearby village has a charming pub that was popular for meals. Also near to stations for the steam railway from Pickering. A good bet compared to the residential caravan holiday villages crowded around Whitby, good value for money too.

Stayed at this site as we were keen to explore the area. We really enjoyed the area, and had a great short stay (4 days).

It does feel very small, sheltered and secluded - and it was extremely quiet when we were there. There were primarily caravans there, and many appeared to be seasonnaires, with pot plants around the vans making it quite homely. It did at times lack a little atmosphere, and we felt conscious of our toddler making any noise with it being quiet.

Toilet / showers were ok, but a bit dated. Great, friendly staff, helped us with our pitch etc.

We often visit Whitby and discovered this site the year before, purely by chance. It has an absolutely fabulous location and the owners / warden were really friendly when they let us have a look around, so we were eager to book as soon as we could. Although we were only there for the second of two weeks (mum & dad used our van for first week), we got a 15% discount for booking two weeks.

I must say that this is one of the best sites we have ever stayed on, but for us it was not without problem. A neighbour was hyper sensitive to dog barks and the warden was eager to be seen to be doing something so he had a kind word with us, but afterward we felt very on edge and couldn't relax in case our dog was to make a noise. We feel the warden should have had a thicker skin perhaps - although in a difficult position when dealing with dog and child hating caravanners. We are not and have never been a noisy family.

The second problem was the requirement to lift your breathable groundsheet every day. For us this was impossible as it meant moving everything out of the awning (bikes, throw-up tent for kids, bbq etc), and we received a post-it note on our awning. Although it was well meaning, we were once again left feeling put out.

Looking on the more positive things though, the new shower block is absolutely first class. I like the swipe card entry/exit system to gain access to the site. The dog walks are brilliant, and Grosmont railway station is very close by. You can hear the steam trains and get a day rover ticket between Whitby and Pickering.

The pitches could be improved by being able to park next to your awning. Instead, you get your neighbour's car there and also less privacy when it isn't. This is the first site we've seen like this.

Don't let any of the bad points I've mentioned put you off though. We would definitely stay again if wanting a site near Whitby. We've visited most of the others and they don't compare location-wise. It's just like being at Center Parcs with caravans instead of villas. Paradisaic setting.

Ladycross, the best kept secret in the moors.I have lived 16 miles away for 10 years in Saltburn by theSeaand my partner all her life and neither of us knew it was here. We stayed last weekend and had a wonderful time.

The mature trees all around make you feel that you are in the heart of a forest.

The staff are friendly and very patient (they would have to be as my reversing is not always consistent) They showed us to our slot and helped us pitch.

It was good to see the reception well stocked with essential groceries and loads of information about the surrounding area for people new to our part of North Yorkshire. The fish and chip van was extremely welcome sight on Friday night 7.30 we didn't have to cook after pitching - Fantastic!

The new shower block looks nearly there not that I had any problems with the original block; clean tidy and with plenty of hot water.

The security gate was not difficult to use- no numbers to remember just a proximity card (it does require a £10 deposit) and the dog walks were well furnished with dog bins.

It was a really lovely weekend and we shall be going back, as it is a great way to end the season with the shorter nights and not having to travel too far. Well done to all of you there.

We visited the site as it opened. The site was very boggy as there had been a lot of rain a few days earlier. When we arrived we paid and were asked to wait to be shown to our pitch. We waited for some time and no one came. We thought we had perhaps misheard and so decided to drive around. The owner (man) came chasing after us and said 'I told you to wait' very rude. He then directed us to a pitch, with 2 other site workers and he did nothing but moan at them as they tried to help us pitch. Because the site was so boggy we were not blown away with it. The toilets were OK-5 out of 10. The site is about 2 miles from Whitby and we experienced heavy fog as we were driving to and from the site which was quite scary. Whitby is a lovely place. The kippers are fab and so are the fish and chips.

This is a lovely, peaceful site situation in the middle of a pine wood. Whether you are a nature lover or not, you cannot fail to be impressed at the abundance of wildlife in and around the site. The owners mentioned that deer pass through at dawn in spring and we have yet to go back and witness this! On one designated night per week the local "fish and chip" man calls round in his van - freshly caught Whitby fish, excellent! The only down side we could complain about was the noise level on our last night (Friday) when the weekend influx of children arrived and were let loose to annoy other campers by their selfish parents! A return visit midweek is planned.

We holidayed at this lovely site for 10 days although the weather wasn't good we had a good time, the site is set in woodlands and the owners/wardens are all very friendly and helpful. there is a good dog walk, where the dogs can have a good run off their leads. We would definitely return.
