Arrived at around 7.30 pm which to us isn't late, but didn't exactly have the warmest of welcomes by the owner, who just pointed to a field and said you can pay in the morning! The showers etc were pretty basic (and cobwebby) and poorly lit at night. Running along side of the site is a stream and you could fish in there or simply take a paddle! Good location for exploring Dartmoor National park and close by to the town of Tavistock. Peaceful site.

Management response: Sorry to hear that your welcome was not too warm. Perhaps we had a bad day. After all we are all human
The "stream" you quoted happens to be the fastest flowing river in England. It supports a large amount of Trout and Salmon and is a classic Dartmoor River. Come and see it in "Spate" and you will be scared at it`s ferocity
We have addressed the cobwebs. The toilets are hardly poorly lit, perhaps you visited them at dusk just before the sensor switched them on. They are finely adjusted to conserve energy in line with our policy to address pollution.
We pride are selves on our position of being one of 30 parks nationwide to be awarded Bellamy GOLD award 7 years without a break
Being a Four star park with "Visit england.com" The showers are hardly basic as they have to confirm to a strict grading standard. |

Lovely relaxed chilled out site. The non EHU field though has no water tap or bins (just round the corner) and it's a long way to the toilet block from there - not so good I would have thought in the middle of the night as there's limited lighting. I loved all this (we are in a motorhome!) - you might not have liked it with little kids in a tent. The facilities are fine - the river is good and there is loads of space for the kids to play. We would definitely come here again. Played on the bar football and there's a table tennis table and tennis courts. Loads of good things to do on Dartmoor and this is a good base.

Agree with all other posts. Only two problems we found: 1. Although the showers and toilets are clean there are spider webs in them and there was a rather large wolf spider hanging around the toilets. 2. It is a mile to the pub! Not too bad if flat but this is a mile up and down hills. Its worth it when you get there though although no cheap food. The children really enjoyed this site. The playground is good and the river is great. Get there early unless you've booked EHU as these are the only numbered pitches. It is a free for all for non-EHU.
Everything else about this site was excellent - no traffic noise at all.

June 2004 I've visited this site many times. The toilet & shower block have always been clean & in good order. The site is well run & everyone is helpful. The riverside pitches are first class & if the weather in right, it's fun to swim in the river, but it is cold, not for the faint hearted. A good alround site well worth going to, I will be going again.

30th & 31st May 2004 An excellent site, this is our 4th visit and even though it was Bank holiday weekend (packed out) the toilet block was always clean and constant free hot showers. This is a really nice family site with a games room and tennis court. If you camp near the river the midges can by a nuisance (better to pack some repellent). We are looking forward to our next visit.

July 2002 This is one of our favourite sites and we have been here 3 years on the trot. It is just off the A386 north of Tavistock , but is not spoilt by traffic noise.
The reception area and static vans are at the entrance to the park, around a neat garden and lawn. You can get postcards and ice cream from the office, as well as tokens for the washing machines, dryers and iron.
The touring fields are grassy with clumps of trees scattered about. The pitches with electric hookups are spaced out around the edge of the fields and round the clumps of trees, which leaves the centre of the fields free for tents and for the odd game of football, etc. There are picnic tables scattered around for free use, though they tend to be taken away by people who use them as the family table for the whole of their stay. You have to move fast to get a free one. There are also a couple of static barbecues near the river that anyone can use. Water points and bins are dotted about the site. There is one toilet block which houses showers, washbasins, laundry, washing up sinks, a drying room, chemical disposal and the waste disposal area. Motorhomes waste disposal is there also.
The river runs along the edge of the site and is not fenced off, but it is mostly shallow and very pebbly, with a deeper channel in the centre much enjoyed by adults and bigger children who have found a series of swimming holes to use. There is also a shingle beach that the toddlers like. The play area is fenced off and visible from most of the main field, with sandpit, roundabout, slides etc suitable for most ages. There is also a tennis court for anyone to use, plus a TV room and a games room though I think it is requested that parents accompany the younger children there. There is also a separate field for exercising dogs across the road from the main entrance to the site.
The letterbox is in the wall by the bridge over the river and is emptied daily. For food and other supplies, there are two good supermarkets in Tavistock, one just off the first mini roundabout as you enter town, the other in the industrial area on the far side of town, which is open fairly late at night. Visit the Pannier Market while you are there too, there is a super cake stall and often other goodies to be had.
TV reception is not very good, but it varies from one part of the site to the other. We find the tennis court end is not brilliant, but the river area is slightly better
We like the site because it feels relaxed and spacious and children can potter around without feeling that they are annoying other people. My favourite sight is the procession of ducks through the site each morning and evening, they brighten up the day.

Excellant site in a very pituresque setting next to the river.
The wash rooms were spotlessly clean with free hot showers and hairdriers. Laundry facilities were available with the added bonus of a boiler room to dry outdoor clothing in, which with the weather we had was very handy! Picnic tables and benches were provided for most pitches. The campsite shop was reasonbly priced (Scrumpy Jack cider only 85p a can)with lots of tourist information and local walks. Chidrens play area ,Tennis courts and games room proved popular with the children.
Great site ,bad weather!
