We had a long weekend here in early October. Just off the A6 the site is in pleasant surroundings and is easy to find. Most of the site is taken over by statics which can only be accessed through the touring site. There is one toilet / shower block which although a bit dated is kept very clean. The chandler's shop (remember it's a marina) doubles as the site's reception and sells a few basics.

There isn't much in the way of shops near the site and the nearest pub had closed down when we went. Garstang can be accessed via the canal bank and is about a half hour's walk away. The town itself is quite a pleasant place with a few pubs which sell food and a good range of shops. Down the A6 towards Preston is a huge, modern garden centre which is well worth a visit (nice cafe). The Fylde Coast is close by and again well worth visiting.

We would definitely go again for a relaxing weekend.

Just returned from 1st outing of the season and picked this site because it was local to us. (we did take a sneak preview at the end of last year)

We are already re booked for 4 return visits.

This is a peaceful site, no bar, club house, on site grocery store or extensive playground.

However, you will get the most friendly welcome you could wish for and a very well kept site, huge pitches and the town of Garstang in a very picturesque 15-20 min walk along the canal which has all the amenities you could wish for. e.g. me and my pal were sent out to find camping chairs as his Mrs.Dizzy forgot to pack any!. Mission accomplished.

The toilet blocks are more than adequate although I did not shower (I have one in the van before you start) my daughter and her friend did, one had a hot one had cold.(teenagers what can you say)

The marina is a delight it is safe and well kept, OK for a stroll without going too far.

There is minimal noise from a busy A6 but this would be being very nit picky. Overall a great site.

Congratulations to the Dodd family from the Shone's for the investment and care they have made in the site it is very apparent and the visitors to the site when we were there respected it also.

Well worth a visit, wait until you come to pay. Absolutely in line with today's requirements, you get real value for your money.

This was our first visit to this lovely peaceful site, and it certainly won't be our last.

Adjacent to the Lancaster canal and its own marina where day boats can be hired, the site is well set out, clean, level and well cared for, with good-sized hardstanding pitches all with electric. The heated toilet and shower block is extremely clean and fresh, and the free showers are hot. There is a grassy children's' play area at one end of the site, and the small shop supplies most basic groceries along with boating equipment and a few camping essentials.

There is a nice baker's shop just along the lane and the small town of Garstang with several pubs and take-aways is just a few minutes away by car, or a 10-15 minute walk along the canal. For those who like wildlife the rabbits and ducks which roam around the site are a joy to watch.

Blackpool, Lancaster, Morecambe and the Lake District can all be easily reached, as can the beautiful countryside and moors of the Trough of Bowland.

There are only two slight downsides to this site - the traffic noise from the nearby main road, though after a while you don't notice it as much, and the lack of a decent dog walk, though dogs can run free along the towpath on the far side of the canal.

All in all this is a lovely site in a lovely location, and to slightly misquote The Terminator - 'We'll be back'!

On behalf of the family and staff at Bridge House Marina & Caravan Park, May we apologise for the disruption and inconvenience that the “building work” has caused the last reviewer and anyone else that has been disappointed with their stay.

This has been due to the re-development of the top half of the caravan site being badly delayed due to the unforeseen weather conditions from January through March, which we regret to say has led to the completion date of 1st of March 2008 being missed by over two months.

We can now however say that the “building work” has been completed and the site is back to the high standards we have strived for and achieved over the last 25 years!

We hope that this will allay any fears that the last review has raised and we hope to hear from you soon, if you require any help or have further questions please telephone us, and we will gladly assist you.

Yours truly

The Dodd Family

Having read all the good reviews about this site we looked forward to our 3 day break with nothing but the wildlife to disturb the peace. We have just returned home after 1 night, because the site is in the middle of major building works making way for more statics at the expense of tourers. In fact the touring site has been cut in half and the hardstandings that remain are in the process of being dug up with a JCB.

At about 8.30 on our first morning we were roused by a convoy vans, dumper trucks and JCBs passing by our 'van some decided to stop nearby with their engines running just to add to the ambience. This also meant the roads were covered in mud.

None of this building work was mentioned when we booked up.

Enough we decided, went to pay for our one night and when we said why we were leaving early the reply we got, and I quote, was ''OK''.So we won't be back and we won't be recommending it either.

Just had a long weekend here, the weather didn't help. It rained all weekend but we still enjoyed the site. The staff are very helpful. The toilet block is very clean and the showers are brilliant.  The kids said they could do with more things on the play area but that did not stop them from having fun.

The site is very clean we have booked again to go back for a weekend.  The walk along the canal to Garstang is lovely, it takes about 15 mins. Garstang has lovely shops and pubs with beer gardens which we like because the dog comes with us.

Just got back from Bridge House Marina . We have stayed before.  £13 a day with awning & electric & some very helpful staff. Country / working Marina site with a play area for children. . & loads of rabbits, and ducks wandering around.!

The site is clean, well laid out & level, mostly large hardstanding pitches. Showers and toilets are clean. The small shop supplies most basic needs.

Only downside is that main road is not too far away, and can be a little noisy on a Sunday Morning !

Go into Garstang. there's many good pubs within easy walking distance.along canal.  , 'T'owd Tithe Barn' is well worth a visit -  right on the canal.

 April 2005
Just back from the Bridge House site. We stayed Saturday to Monday - £14.75 a day. This is a country site with loads of rabbits, and ducks.Very funny watching them!
The site was clean, well laid out and level, mostly hardstanding. Showers and toilets clean. If you want a shop, go into Garstang. There is a pub down the road.
I do think the price was perhaps a little high, considering there is nothing on site apart from a play area for children.

 July 2004
probably the best site we have ever stayed at. Clean, tidy, friendly and loads of space on the pitches. Large play area for children. Good walks along canal. Good pubs within easy walking distance.
I don't think anybody, whatever your taste in caravanning, could have a bad word to say about this site.
Will be back again even though it is only 20 minutes from our home. My lad will remember this site as he caught his first pike on the canal (10 lb monster).

 Frequent visitor for several years
Excellent site, clean ,level, toilets are clean & warm. Site is open all year and reasonably priced. The small shop supplies most basic needs. Garstang is a nice 10 to 15 min stroll along the towpath, 7 excellent pubs in the village, all serving real ale and food, 'T'owd Tithe Barn' is well worth a visit - it's right on the canal. Will be going again this year
