The site is set on a clifftop overlooking a beautiful beach, so it is very exposed, The front row of hard standings are narrow and very close together, wish we had booked on the row behind, they still had the view as they were higher up but were much more spacious. You need to book if you want a hook-up, they left a list of names and pitch numbers on the door so you could pitch up and go and pay them when the office opens at 5pm, A nice touch is that they called round in the morning to see if we wanted to reserve the pitch for the following night. The toilets and showers are in separate blocks, the toilets are clean and functional, but in the unisex shower block the floor was filthy, there were no curtains in the cubicles and some didn't even have working locks, needless to say we gave them a miss. We were told the pub next door didn't allow dogs, so didn't try it. The spar shop is just a 5 minute walk, and the craft village with the Chocolate Mountain cafe (dogs welcome) is just over a mile away. OK for a stop over on the 500 but would probably not go back.

Wonderful site with access to lovely sandy beach. The site has views to die for a real discovery.
Staff very friendly, efficient and welcoming.
Facilities, toilets, showers, dish washing are clean, a bit basic though functional, but new ones are currently under construction.
Plenty of pitches and ECUs and you are free to pick your own.
Hotel next to site offers good value food, either in the restaurant or bar.
General store within a couple of minutes walking distance and another with post office and cash machine not much further up the hill as is a petrol station.
Tourist information centre next to the hotel and general store, again with helpful staff.
The Smoo Cave is spectacular and again within walking distance.
For the bucket list a boat and mini bus trip to Cape Wrath is an experience and sets off from a couple of miles up the road.
Sometimes a site just has a certain undefinable something that sets it apart and amidst strong competition this has my vote for number one on the NC500

Site is situated in Durness on a small cliff top with a lovely beach below. It can be a bit windy. Site was very busy in the middle of May. The north coast 500 seems to have added a lot of traffic. Cost £20 per night for 2 adults with electric hook up. Most pitches were level with a few exceptions. Staff were OK but to be fair were busy.
There are a few short walks from the site up to about five miles.
Facilities are a bit basic. A bit old, cold and out of date. Didn't see any laundry facilities.
There is a bar and restaurant next door which are busy and popular. Food was quite good. They did serve white wine without chilling it. Dogs are not particularly welcome. It seems to be up to the bar staff whether or not your dog is allowed in. The bigger the dog the less likely you will get in. Seems daft when half the potential customers on the site have dogs.

Terribly disappointed.
Website shows a lovely site, clean toilets and talks a good talk.
The truth is different.
The location is brilliant, over looking the beaches at Durness, with easy access to them. Perfect for kids and dogs to play on. The sea is baltic, so be warned.
The sites is on the ‘500 route’ and therefore very popular.
The site itself is huge, there must have been at least 100 units on the site when we arrived and that wasn’t counting the tents.
Units are parked very closely together, much too close for safety I’m sure.
There are a very few hard pitches which were overbooked.
Was expensive, £40. 00 for two nights. Camping and Caravanning sites are cheaper
We were on a pitch with hook-up which was mud. Several vans got stuck and had to be pushed out by other campers.
There was flooding on some of the pitches.
There is a camper’s kitchen and a washing up area (very basic made out of corrugated plastic. Not practically clean. )
Fresh water taps were back to back with chemical toilet emptying points.
There are two toilet blocks one at each end of the site. The one near us had five toilets for ladies and gents. There were two showers (yes two showers) which were unisex.
The toilets were clean(ish) but in need of updating. The showers were disgusting. The first night we were there only one provided hot water. There is mould up the walls and on the ceiling, the floors were flooded and the plugs were full of hair.
There was some sort of work going on which were lead to believe would be new utility block.
There is an unfenced pond on the site.
No facilities for child.
The nearby pub/restaurant does not allow dogs so we didn’t use it.
Little Spar shop just up the road which seemed to stock everything.
You must visit Smoo Cave.

I try to get up to the North coast several times in the year, and this campsite never disappoints. There is always a friendly and helpful welcome for everyone. The site is certainly busier with the promotion of the 'North Coast 500', but there is plenty space for tents, and even some sheltered spots should it be wild weather. Facilities may not be as fancy as some campsites, but they are perfectly adequate and clean; the camper's kitchen is a bonus in wet weather. The location is of course fantastic, and the four legged friend loves the beach at the campsite and further round at Balnakiel. The village has a couple of places to eat out, and two stores for provisioning. In my top three UK campsites.

Stayed here for one night while touring the north coast on motorcycles.
One thing that isn't mentioned much is the campers kitchen complete with two gas rings and free gas - a great facility for hikers, cyclists and bikers travelling light. It really does make a big difference having a sheltered space to stand up in, space to set out food and equipment, having more than the one burner you've probably brought with you, and having tables and chairs to sit at.
I didn't check all the shower and toilet facilities but was glad to be up early to use the showers nearest our pitch as they did get busy while we were taking our tent down.
Good bar/restaurant on site, but again it gets busy.

Wonderful site for views of the top of the western highlands, overlooking a stunning beach. Well kept site that it is undulating! that adds to the charm. Many pitches with breathtaking views and some more sheltered when the weather is Scottish! Toilet facilities pretty good although look a bit ramshackle. BE WARNED Hot water from taps is scalding hot which is dangerous in the extreme and illegal in a public facility. It is nice to have hot water but the temperature is supposed to be regulated for safety reasons. It would skin a child so be warned. Village has all you would need, a nice looking pub, village stores, very expensive but 24 hour with a card (worth noting)petrol station, beautiful beach and walks in the right weather and more. All in all after John o Groats the next must visit site.

Beautiful situation but the facilities leave a lot to be desired. Shared male/female shower block which was basic to say the least. Toilets basic too. No laundry facilities, there is a drying room but it's simply a washing line, in what looks like a shed. I know we visited at the end of the season but the facilities weren't particularly clean. Pretty expensive for what was supplied compared to other sites. As others have commented, the owner is making a lot of money for this site, he really does need to think about putting a bit back into upgrading the facilities. We had a couple of meals in the restaurant, no bar meals as they were short staffed, ok but fairly expensive.

What a nice site. Plenty of room for everyone although it did get very full and latecomers had to do a bit of searching for a suitable pitch. 2 shops close by and a bar (which I didn't use, honestly). Wonderful beaches with fine golden sand. Weather couldn't make its mind up, first day was like Tenerife, second was like Moscow on a bad day. Nice visitor centre too.
