Good Points:
This site is the cleanest I've ever stayed on.
The toilets/showers are immaculate. Radio 2 playing in the background 24hrs a day which is quite comforting in the early hours. 2 showers in Ladies and the Gents, 3 toilets, 2 sinks with a separate sink cubicle with door for privacy. The toilet/shower block is centrally placed so regardless of where you're pitched, you don't have much of a walk and it is very well lit up of a night time.
The owners Linda and Richard are so lovely and helpful, nothing is too much trouble for them. They ensure the site is maintained to the highest standards and are constantly cleaning or cutting the grass.
The tent field has a lawn which is extremely well kept and there are a number of electric hook ups.
There is a pub within 2 minutes walk which is right on the River Trent. It's not the most up to date of pubs inside however there is plenty of space outside and it's great to sit beside the river. There is another pub which is a walk up a very very steep hill or you could drive there (car park at the back). We didn't eat there but other campers staying the same time as us did and couldn't sing the praises high enough. Excellent value for money and the food they said was delicious.
There are a number of walks direct from the site. We walked up the hill through the woods and were greated with fantastic views of the surrounding area and full views up and down the River Trent.
Bad Points:
There is a dog/cat boarding kennels right next door to the site. If you like the sound of around 75 barking dogs 24hrs a day then this is the site for you. We left 2 days early due to lack of sleep with the dogs barking non stop. The owners have tried to resolve this we believe and they have planted a row of Leylandii trees right along the border of the camping field to try and help with reducing the noise but it really hasn't worked. Some guests don't hear the dogs barking but as this site is a dog owners haven, they may well be immune to the sound of barking dogs or it could be that if you're staying in a caravan, the noise is cut out much better.
The site is not for children and is generally occupied by adults only. There is nothing for them to do at all and the surrounding area isn't that great either although you can drive out to Scunthorpe which is very run down.
We were disappointed with the Normanby Country Park, have been to better parks at home which are free to enter (£5 per adult and £2.50 per child here). The deer they advertise don't generally hang around where you can see them, the country house has only a few rooms to see as half the house was demolished a number of years ago by the family who own the house so has been drastically reduced in size. The farm museum is very good though.
Summary:
All in all, this is a fantastic site with immaculate facilities and extremely helpful owners but is not child friendly or have much to do in the area and the dog/cat kennels are noisy .

A lovely welcome on arrival and very spacious pitches. Doggie heaven with a field to run in and a footpath just outside gate leading up hill to other lovely walks with great views. Pub a little run down inside but lovely sitting out by the river - notice seeking someone to take on food contract so maybe food in the offing sometime! Didn't make it up the hill to the other one. Really enjoyed our stay and barking from kennels not too obtrusive.

Spotless facilities, extremely helpful hosts, private pitches, great dog walk area. In fact this site is perfect for most but if you have children that like to play, this site may not be for you as no play facilities and owners like to keep all the grass areas well maintained. We recently stayed here for a week and we had a fantastic time and the dog kennels weren't heard until the weekend but they may be quieter this time of year. The pub Sheffield Arms at the top of heart attack hill allows dogs, serves food and has football all in all PRICELESS!

This is without doubt the best laid out site we have ever visited. The pitches are very well spaced with hedges in between them. The paths are wide and the toilets and showers are spotless, and the two shower cubicles are large with plenty of hooks to hang clothes and a shower curtain to stop your things getting wet.
Some of the plots have views across the river and plains. You can see boats sometimes going up and down the river and there is a long river walk. There is a lot of information available about the surrounding area and walks etc in the reception.
There is a pub which is 2 minute walk away, which is friendly but does not serve food.
The walk up the hill to the village is not too bad and there is a big pub where food is served and a gorgeous coffee shop with specialisty tea/coffee and homemade cakes. Also a post office, grocery shop etc.
There is a fabulous walk from/to the site upto the village which gives you breathtaking views across the valley and you can see for miles. You can also walk (45 mins) to Normanby Country park which is open all year (the house is open from March).
The owners are very friendly and we will most certainly return to this lovely spot.

We have just enjoyed a 2 night stay here at the weekend. It was our first time caravanning and we wanted to go somewhere local. Richard and Linda were extremely friendly and helpful. The site was excellent, each plot was private and the toilets and wash facilities were exceptional. The only down side was that the local pub does not serve meals! We will definitely return

Fantastic campsite, as previously stated 'spotless' facilities. The dog walk is fantastic which our retired greyhound loved, very friendly campsite, owners friendly (though we do apologise for our pump been very loud) and we have since bought one which is quiet and takes 1 minute to pump the air beds yayyyyy!
The surrounding woodland is fantastic and at night owls can be heard, though there is a local dog kennel nearby and the dogs did bark didn't really bother us, after all who would want to be stuck in a kennel all day! The local pub is fantastic, Saturday nights they pump the bouncy castle for the kids, lots of tables to sit outside right next to the river, and if you lucky enough to be there at high tide you get to see all the boats/ships coming past. FANTASTIC. Well worth a visit. We will deffo be going back :o)

Have just spent 2 nights in a tent at this site. All of the previous reviews are very accurate. Very quiet, everywhere spotlessly clean, Definitely not for children as there is absolutely nothing for them to do on site or within reasonable walking distance. Also worth noting, there are kennels close by, we do like dogs but not being woken up at 5.30 each morning by a chorus of barking which continued throughout the day. Local chinese is very good and will also deliver to the site for a small charge. Would return but not with the children (currently 9 and 15)

Just returned from this great site. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The whole place is a credit to all their hard work. Facilities here are second to none with lots of thoughtful touches in the shower/toilet blocks etc. Bins, waste disposal and water areas are spotlessly clean and well signed.
There are hardstanding pitches for caravans, with hedges on either side for privacy and a huge grass 'lawn' for tents. I would normally say field, but as a previous reviewer stated, this is so well tended it would grace a bowling club. If you are camping with a dog, there is a huge field for them to run off excess energy. The owners have printed 5 walks in the local area to enjoy, ranging in duration.
Just outside the lane leading to the campsite is a friendly pub which serves real ale, and has a great view of the Trent.
The village is within walking distance, although a very steep climb on the way there, the views compensate for this on the way back to the site. The village has a general store, post office, pub and takeaway.
This site has been a great find and I'm sure we will visit again and again.

Good site, worth a visit.
Spent a week here excelent. Owners very good at making you feel welcome. Will be going again. Pub 2 mins away. Walks from campsite. Over looking the Trent.
Facilities Toilets, waste disposal, recycling, all very good. Not suitable for young children. Scunthorpe for shopping about 5 miles. Normanby park estate nice for a day out 2 miles. Humber bridge about 8 miles.

Just returned from a brilliant weekend at brookside , beautifull , beautifull site. Toilets and showers immaculate, owners were incredible helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Some great walks with 2 great pubs within easy walking. The ferryboat does some cracking real ale (food only on sunday), Sheffield arms does a basic menu but some good ales. WARNING don't use tom tom to get there follow their instructions, tom tom took us hopelessly off track. All in all a great place to go. We shall return.
