Just returned from a long weekend at Stratford racecourse. This was our first time in our new van and as novices we made a few mistakes, forgetting the right tools, trying to work out our electrics etc. I have got to say the warden was extremely helpful getting us up and running, standing out in rain on the 1st day guiding us through all the basics we had long since forgot being shown in the Caravan showroom!
Walking into Stratford is a pleasure if you take the footpath across the racecourse and through the park. Showers were warm and the toilets were usually clean.
I would recommend coming when the races are on, as if you stay 3 nights then entry into the centre of the track is free. This made the weekend great value for money (there was also free face-painting and bouncy castle for the kids on race days) but even without the races Stratford has enough going on to keep you occupied and everyone happy.

We arrived at about 5 pm on bank holiday Saturday a little concerned when the old man couldn't find our name, but he did and we breathed a sigh of relief. He did say that people who email for reservations have trouble because they go elsewhere, so I recommend (as we did) to make a phone call to make a reservation.
The site was flat with bitumen roads around, so despite the recent rains was in good condition. It was about 22 pounds for 4 people for the night, so not too bad considering it was walking distance to the town.
The showers were 50p for about 7 mins, but had good pressure and were hot so no complaints, and amenities not too far away. We didn't use it, but it looked like a large computers area had been set-up, but don't quote me on it.
A pub with good pub-grub was about a 10 minute walk towards the town as well as an off licence.
I didn't notice an play area, however it may have been accross the site as we were on one of the edges.
I think you may need to check there is no racing on if you want to stay here though.
If I were to stay near Stratford again I would definitely recommend this site.

This has always been a favourite site of mine. It is quiet and has excellent foot and cycle access to Stratford. Very good rate for single campers. Wardens most accommodating. Some problems might be caused by clash with racing days but wardens are very careful about this. Facilities more than adequate.

Great site - very handy for centre of Stratford. There is a cycle path at the back of the site which leads straight into the centre of Stratford - excellent for young children as it's only a mile. We visited Shakespeare's houses (all 3 of them) in the town centre, which were definitely worth a look. The site is pretty basic with nice showers, toilets and washing up / laundry area. The great thing about this site is if you are staying when the racing is on you get free entry to the centre of the course and the horses run by right where you are camped. Very friendly and helpful couple who run it. Lot's of different nationalities (apparently 27 last season!). Groups welcome so may get a bit rowdy but we enjoyed it.

Called the site from the town centre on the Friday of May Day Bank Holiday. Wanted one night if possible over the busy weekend, Managed to get in for two nights because someone had cancelled, eventually stayed three nights. We were placed near the stables on hard standing with hook-up, An excellent position considering how wet the ground was and became over the Sunday night. The site was run by a very friendly and helpful couple from the caravan & office. The facilities were in excellent condition and a pleasure to use although got quite busy in the morning. Plenty of Bins for your rubbish, Water points and drive over elsen for waste disposal. Walked into Stratford which takes about 20minutes along the river bank walk & bike paths. Priced at £13 per night which seemed good for the location and the facilities on offer. One small personal niggle nothing was recycled, it all ended up in one large lidded skip. Would definitely stay again if we are in the area.

My partner and myself stayed in this campsite for a long weekend in July, and all in all it wasn't a bad campsite, considering the location is pretty close to town. People at the reception were extremely helpful and explained fully how the shower tokens works etc. The toilets/showers were not very clean, but tolerable, could have definitely be a lot better if they were looked after with a little bit more attentions. The grass area where you can tent up (only selected areas) were not very well looked after, hence the grass there was mainly very dry and hardly gives you any *cushioned* when we were sleeping on our sleeping bags, so definitely will need extra matt/foam for your back support if you are planning to stay there for a couple of nights, just so your back would still be ok. Another down side of this place is we had to vacate the campsite relatively early on Sunday morning due to the racing. And they do not have areas where you can leave your bags just for the day, so we ended up having to carry all our bags & tents around town, hopping between coffee shops and wait for our trains. We were told that there was supposed to have an area at the train station where you can leave your bags and stuff but turned out it wasn't true at all. So just be prepared if you don't have a car (like us) and travelling mainly on foot, perhaps will have to book your train so you won't need to hang around town for the whole day with all your bags with you, which is highly inconvenient. Overall, this site is ok location wise, but we would rather look around for another campsite next time we come back to Stratfor purely because of the inconvenience of the sunday vacating time

We booked into this site at very short notice for three nights and were delighted as we weren't expecting a great deal for £10 per night, it was great value. The showers & toilets were fine and were cleaned once daily, the location is ideal with easy access into Stratford town over the weekends there were plenty of local markets around the area to stumble into well worth a visit.

This may sound a bit harsh but, if you want peace and quiet, don't bother! We arrived on site to be greeted by the very friendly owners. We were shown to our pitch which was on quite a slope. Found it hard to put tent pegs in as it was built on concrete!!
The toilets were dirty. The Gents had 3 showers. If you were unlucky enough, you ended up in the shower right next to the toilet!! Not pleasant. There is no, no noise policy and thus we ended up having 4 hours sleep on the Saturday & Sunday night. When we asked if the owner had any plans to implement a no noise policy, he couldn't really have cared less and told us we should have complained earlier!!

Very noisy site, have been in the past but was very dissapointed this year. £10 a pitch plus 50p for each shower, and they were rubbish, only get 7mins in the trickling water!
No rules about noise, so parties went on in certain areas till 2 in the morning. Owner did not feel this an issue, it's a holiday atmosphere here!! We were unlucky enough to be pitched between 2 such groups last night. They thought it was ok to pump up the airbed with an electric pump at 1:30 am. Maybe I'm getting old!!
Site is large, nice and flat. Playground for the kids. Nice walk takes about 30mins into Stratford. Toilets could be better.

Enjoyed our weekend at this site. Massive open grassy areas as you might expect from a racecourse !! with very pleasant views too. We booked one of the premium pitches with electric hook up for our trailer tent. Loads of space between pitches and a fantastic playing area right in front. In the centre of the course is a small childrens activity area - swings, slide etc.
Showers, loos etc are ok and with 7mins for a 50p shower token you cant really baulk at the cost - just choose your times wisely as on this big site it can get very busy ! You're a 5 min drive or 20 min walk into town , pubs within 10 mins walk. wardens are friendly and helpful with loads of maps and leaflets of things to see and do.
