A lovely quiet site. We were late but had phoned in advance and had a lovely welcome envelope waiting for us with everything we needed to know.
Ok the lane down is a bit rough but no issue. It’s in a great place for getting out and about and there is loads of info at the shop of where to go.
Great pub is Jacobs Well about 1. 5 miles but an easy walk.
We’ll come again. Ps if you want a stay if more than 5 nights phone and book as the website doesn’t do longer hols.

Nice quiet peaceful site this with friendly owners. Toilets adequate for use. No showers. Elsan disposal, drinking water and refuse disposal not far away. Bus stop in village with routes to Pontefract, Barnsley and Wakefield.
Anglers Country Park is a ten minute or shorter walk through woods with a visitors centre giving information about the Barnsley to Wakefield Canal and Charles Waterton the Explorer and Taxidermist.
Wintersett lakes just over the wy with Sailing. Will definitely go back.

I have mixed views on this site. When we first arrived, I nearly turned back and went home. There are a few caravans that look like they are living there permanently. Washing hanging out, log burner in awning and large dog tied up outside.
They also had there water hose permently connected up. Not a good impression. But we stuck in out. The toilets are show type porta cabins but very clean and tidy. The pub which is a short walk was closed when we visited, which was disappointing as it was one of the reasons we picked it.
There is a code to get in the gate and cctv. When we arrived we were met by a girl to pay. It was £18 per night (which I thought was a bit expensive for what you got) gave her a £20 but she had no change and said she would come back with the £2. Needless to say, we didn't see her again. Don't know how many people she tricks that one with.
The walks around the lake are lovely and it was very peaceful at night with dark skys.
Would I stay here again probably not. But it might be your thing, just not for us.
I think with a little more investment it could be a little gem, its just not there at the moment and I've stayed in a lot nicer for less.

Ended up here at short notice after leaving another site early. Made booking over the phone as there is no reception on site and it’s recently been taken over.
Back to basics site with water and electric and mostly hard standing pitches.
No shower blocks and festival style portable toilet blocks, which were clean and tidy and had hot water.
Despite the cold weather we pitched up easily, and when needed the owner was available by phone.
Most pitches were occupied by seasonal owners, but we experienced no problems. Back to basics but exactly as advertised.
We paid £18 a night for hard standing with electric. The site is close to the lakes and Nostell Priory although we didn’t visit due to the weather.

Lovely peaceful site next to lake and country park, ideal for dog owners, walkers, cyclists. The country park visitor centre has plenty of things to do for children - grandkids aged 3 and 10 enjoyed the 'room on the broom' trail around the lake, and bike hire is very reasonably priced.
Pitches are spacious and easy to access, hookup, water and waste disposal all to hand. Toilets are heated, well lit and spotlessly clean.
Didn't make it to the pub in the village but it's easy to get a bus into Walton which is about 15mins away for excellent pub food at the New Inn; there are also plenty of other restaurants and takeaways nearby, plus an amazing (if slightly unconventional!) butchers in Ackworth if you plan a BBQ. Crofton, the next village has two small supermarkets - you could cycle there or even walk if really keen but the road is a bit twisty and narrow. The bus service does pass through this village.
It's also a great base if visiting the Yorkshire Sculpture Park which is less than half an hour away.

Well signposted from some way away. Immediate, pleasant welcome. Shown to my pitch.
Hard-standing pitch rather narrow with very narrow approach track making manoeuvring onto pitch very difficult whilst trying to keep front wheels off extremely sodden grass on opposite side.
Spoke with owner about this. Was told not to worry about cutting the corners, which was nice, but didn't help my problem re sinking as soon as we touched grass.
All the grass was completely under water but there had been a lot of rain. The field sloped a little towards my pitch and so that area was especially boggy. Water poured over wellies as soon as you stood on grass.
Be aware only 6amp electricity so no kettles or microwaves.
Dog friendly.
Help was offered for water input. Not needed but much appreciated. Makes all the difference, especially when you are a solo traveller.
This area is worth a visit even if you only go to The Yorkshire Sculpture Park!
Found Nostell Priory garden extremely disappointing. Many Country Parks nearby.

Another great visit to Wintersett lakes. A Great little site, always really well kept.
We had a nice walk around the lake followed by a nicer pint at the angler's retreat.
Very clean facilities as always. Thanks again & see you soon.

Really enjoyable visit. Best welcome we have ever had in 25 years of camping. Even gave us times of local buses. Good hardstanding close to toilets. I am disabled.
Close to accessible water supply. Clean toilets. I would like a shower but my partner was fine with out. Also missed wash up but managed well. Other campers were fantastically helpful and friendly.
Good access and qowners always opened gate as I was not very nippy.
