There are lots of private caravans for sale but no literature about them how do you find out how to view them, beautiful place to spend time with friends and family. Large playing field with no a lot for kids to do though, needs to add more things not just the cinema. The park itself is nice and has some lovely lodges and caravans definitely worth taking a look around.

Please note that the site owners have advised that as of July 2013 they no longer accept touring caravans or motorhomes. From now they have static caravans for hire or sale only.

Took grandchildren last year, they loved play area lovely, castle looking a little tired, but they have installed lots of new statics with new areas. However we only use toilet facilities when caught away from caravan and they are very run down, hook ups and taps are missing on touring site. I was ready to visit this week after being incapacitated for a while and am informed by the website that tourers are no longer welcome and I am heartbroken. Can anyone tell me please is this a temporary situation or will it only be a statics site ( as I do not have the finance for a static)

Booked up easily enough Sat/Sun/Bank Hol Mon - after all my usual haunts were full over the Holiday weekend.

We got there & found the ground very soft, infact we got stuck & eventually pulled out by the warden & a very helpful chap from a neighbouring caravan.

On first inspection of the toilet & showers we weren't impressed, there was litter & cig ends on the floor, the sinks - which didn't match - had been used to clean boots. The cubicles looked very shabby. The toilet seats looked unclean. When you walked you actually stuck to the floor. The site was filled with what I would call 'Chavs', children and adults alike used foul language whilst within earshot of my little girl, simply not a family holiday as it put your back up straight away. People were still up and around at 2. 30am, and a lady opposite us told us she'd complained to reception as the night previous it was 4, 30am, so I was glad to miss that!

The pitch had elec hook up and was supposed to have water but the tap was missing. The Touring pitches desparately need hard standing and the roads inbetween tarmac, the muddy surface that covers them at the moment is ridiculous & inadequate. Apparently even caravans were getting stuck the day before.

We don't have any dogs but there were plenty about, you noticed due to the dog muck around the touring pitches that hadn't been cleaned up. The dog poop bin was full and brimming over.

We didn't go to the pub, I wanted to stay well away so I can't comment on the entertainment nor the food.

The on site shop shut at 2. 00pm on the Sunday we were there.

The chemical disposal point was full with kitchen & toilet roll, it was blocked, foaming and brimming over, just brilliant eh? The toilets apparently had cleaners in them on the Monday just as we were leaving, but it didn't look like they'd been cleaned previous.

Speeding on the site is very worrying, there isn't enough speed signs nor speed humps, a lot of drivers used it as a drag strip. If something isn't done someone will be killed or very badly injured.

We couldn't get off the site quick enough.

The good points are that we did meet a couple of nice families who had lovely kids.

The scenery is lovely, it has a lovely walk around the fishing lakes and has nice open spaces on the site itself for kids to play.

My little one wouldn't use the play area as she felt threatened by some other girls so I can't comment on that either.

This touring site could be a real money spinner but needs desparately for someone to take it under their wing and give it some TLC & as you wouldn't need to spend a lot on it.

Cleaning twice a day over bank holidays and at least once a day other times.

More staff in uniform walking around so you can distinguish them from customers. On checking in you should be shown to your pitch as the pitch markings weren't very well laid out or clear.

Hard standing, speed humps & warning marks, better signage.

A dog walk area created.

WiFi.

It could be improved 100%.

PS And at £25. 00/night for the pitch we got, we won't be going back.

All of the improvements at witton castle are for the static vans very nice, the touring site again is just the same as always poor. The showers are poor, and toilets are in a very bad condition.

The castle itself is very dated inside but they do keep it clean and tidy.

The ground staff at Witton castle do a great job the keeping the place looking good.

Once the static sites are completed and improvements are made to the touring site Witton castle will be one of the best parks in the uk, but it takes time and money for things to happen

Warning! don't go for a look round this site or you very well might end up buying a van! My wife and I had a stroll round the park and were so taken back by the beauty of the park and the friendly and helpful staff we did indeed buy a static van.

The owner made the transaction so easy it was literally a walk in the park (sorry) we put our tourer in part ex, they even picked it up for us, we had the choice of which pitch we wanted and within a week we were in the van.

The genuine passion of this family owned park is so evident, nothing is to much trouble for them, good meals and beer in the castle which is currently undergoing refurbishment, fishing is available within grounds in a fantastic and tranquil setting.

We are looking forward to the next season, which as part of our purchase is free! happy days.

Witton castle is no better than last year. the touring site is very outdated some of the hook ups don't work. most of the tv sockets were broken or missing,

The toilets are very old, two showers have been removed and toilets put in their place so males just have the two showers

The bar is the same as it was 22 years ago, no change there apart from new staff that seem to change each year. The bar staff do try but it needs to be more modern.

I have been told they intend to make a new touring site in 2014, cant come soon enough this could be the best park in the UK if improved.

My husband and I have just returned from Witton Castle after spending 4 days there along with our two children and dog.

This is only our second time away in our tourer (we only bought it last month)and are very new to touring/camping.

As soon as I saw Witton Castle I fell in love with it. The beautiful masonry and well kept grounds with roaming peacocks, running streams, walks galore and amazing panoramic scenery. The touring field was great, there were about 20 units there but we all had lots of space between us.

The park for the children was excellent with lots to do set in a beautiful walled garden with manicured lawns. Beautiful. The entertainment was great for the kids and the entertainer 'silly steve' worked really hard and was brilliant. The bar was lovely and spacious and the 'restaurant' was quite funny as it looks like someone's chucked a few ill fitting cloths on the tables and the menu was just bar food and snacks, nothing special.

The little shop was ok for things like bread and milk but there is a tesco direct about 4 miles away for your main stuff. Every one was really friendly including other campers and visitors in the static. The lady in the sales reception was an absolute angel and so willing to help if there was a problem.

DOWNSIDE - I'm really sorry that there is a downside as I love this place but the shower blocks are awful. I never saw them being cleaned, only 4 out of 8 loos had loo paper and were 'clean' and not blocked.

The front door was missing leaving the shower room cold when the wind got up. They were dark, dank and dirty. The other problem was where you empty your loo! It was blocked and one camper was trying to unblock it with a mop which worked but then poo came over the top. This is the only part of the experience that I don't like having to pay £25 a night for!

Yes we will defo go back, I just hope they sort the shower facilities soon.

We visited witton castle last aug and found this site lovely, lovely views and lovely people.

Toilets were clean and big, nice little shop on site, a duck pond, lovely walks around the site, touring pitch was fine.

Park is nice for the kids, only thing was the price which we thought was a bit steep £25pn.

The pub was nice and drink was reasonable priced the bar meals were lovley. Homecooked no frozen crap lol.

There is an outdoor swimming pool but wasn't in use, this would maybe be a good thing to get back up and running as I think the kids would love it.

Overall it was a lovely stay and would go back if the price was a bit lower.

Been to this site three times this year the pitches are quite good if you are on the outside, the middle ones are very uneven. The bar prices are quite good and keeps a nice pint. Food is good and quite reasonable. It has a shop, quite well stocked. The children's park is good, shame about the unused outdoor pool, could be good again. The showers and toilets are in need of updating but the new owners are trying hard, so give them a chance. Will defo go again. The area is good for walking and the grounds are very well kept and entertainment was very good
