Decided to stop over here on our way from South Cumbria to Whitby as we had a spare night on annual leave and love being away.
The customer service received even before we'd switched the engine of our MH off was second to none.
The welcome was bright, breezy, straightforward, informative and above all friendly. Road noise is constant during the day from the A66 but dies right off early evening but being so close to the A66 makes access to and from this site very easy.
The site was spotless, very well maintained and a credit to the wardens. We would only use this site as a stopover as we have a big enough MH to make parking an issue wherever we go so generally choose sites close to public transport.
This site doesn't have those options but if you do have a car or choose to use MH for visiting places day to day, this site is surrounded by lots of attractions within 10/20 miles.
Mainsgill Tearooms and Gift shop is a must visit, 10 mins drive down the road, very big carpark, great for buying or browsing high end local wares, lovely cafe and camels, yes, real camels and goats, donkeys, llamas etc.
We will definitely stay again at this well positioned site with views to die for and brilliant wardens.

Peaceful setting, very pleasant staff. Ideal for access to Richmond. Clean facilities and nice size pitches. No full service pitches. Lovely views from the site.
Ideal for a short stay as there's isn't a lot to do locally. We use this site as a stopover for a night or two. Short bus ride into town, not frequent.
We stayed on a hardstanding pitch up the top by the amenities block. Nice large pitch and even though it's closer to the road, it wasn't too noisy.
Would definitely stay here again.

Great for an over night stop for us as easy to get to from motorway.
Spotless site. Small dog walk.
Levels needed on some of pitches.
The man warden was very pleasant and helpful.
We personally wouldn’t go back but a lovely well kept site.

Lovely site for an overnight stopover but a not ideal for anyone without a car.
The site is easy to find as it’s about a mile along the A66 from Scotch Corner. It is not on a bus route and has no walking access to a village shop or pub. This is fine is you like to take your motorhome out each day but no good if, like us, you have a walk it or bus policy for getting around
Upon arrival pitch availability was very limited. The one we chose had a very steep incline up to it which meant we had to be very careful of the under slung water tanks. The other 4 or 5 available pitches were in a row behind one another and had no outside sitting area at all. Not ideal if staying more than one night.
COVID restrictions meant information kiosk, children’s play area etc were badly affected but this is not the fault of the CMC. The covid restrictions for the toilets showers were very good but only as far as the members using them. Guests left bands hanging on the hooks and walked off or got to the facilities, found they had forgotten them but still used the toilets. One particular lady did not use hers at any time whatsoever. Again this is not the fault of the site
It’s the site is so isolated I cannot see us using it for anything other that one night stop over

We only stayed one night as a stop over to York. The site has everything you would expect, well maintained, excellent toilet facilities, which are using a band system, 3 people allowed in at a time so as to help with social distancing. We were fortunate the evening we stayed had a glorious sunset.
This is a well maintained site and would use again wether for a stop over or going to explore the area for a few days.
The only thing was the WiFi if you don’t have 4/5Git is rather expensive, you have to log onto an unsecured site to pay with a card (hmmm)
We don’t really know how child friendly the site is as we didn’t have children with us and it was within school term time.

On arrival at this site we were greeted by very friendly Wardens, who told us which pitch to go to and that they were operating a 'band' policy regarding the shower block.
The site is extremely well kept and is a credit to the Wardens, as are the shower blocks. The band system works well, and everyone kept their distance.
Limited dog walks from the site, although the site does has its own small dog walk.
Lovely view from the site and idea for exploring Swaledale.
We would definitely visit again if we are in this area.

Excellent site, 15 minute drive from Richmond and about a mile from Gilling, a lovely village with two good pubs.
Friendly site wardens and immaculate facilities.
Good base for Swaledale.

Easy access fom A66 so a very well placed site for either an overnight stop or extended stay. Stunning views over the valley. Grass pitches at the top of the site can suffer from road noise but the ones lower down the site are fine.
Facilities very clean, very much like other Caravan Club sites. Standing in the shower or toilet block you could be almost anywhere in the country.
There is a lovely walk down the steep hill to the nearby village. There are also walks across the fields to the north if you cross the A66.
