Elvaston Steam Rally Camping Weekend July 2022

The Elvaston Steam Rally is held near the lovely Elvaston Castle in Derbyshire. It offers two days of events on the weekend of July 2nd and 3rd 2022. You can also camp on site from Friday afternoon to Monday morning.

Discounted Weekend Camping Tickets Here - Save £15 Three nights camping (tent, caravan, motorhome) and two days entry to the show for 2 adults and 2 children under 16, and including access to the Saturday evening funfair for just £45!

Advanced Booking now closed, and if you missed this you can still turn up and pay on the gate

Let us just start off by saying despite the name this is not just a steam rally, so don't let that put you off if you're not into it! It's a great fun weekend, and a chance for a cheap weekend's camping with masses to do!

At the event will be a vintage and classic car display along with motorcycles, and masses of old steam traction engines. In addition there is a model show, a variety of market stalls, entertainment for children, including an amazing vintage fairground.

Steam Traction Engines, Vintage and Classic Cars & Motorcycles, Vintage Commercials, Tractors, Stationary Barn Engines, Fair Organs, Miniature Steam Engines, Model Show, Vintage Caravans, Craft Displays and Stalls, Market Stalls, Autojumble, Working demonstrations of Log Sawing and Threshing and more.

What's Else is On?

Entertainment including amazing Old-Time Fairground, Bouncy Castles, Falconry Experience, Punch & Judy! We are also having a flying demonstration of birds of prey in the main arena and gundogs will be in the main arena. This year, weather permitting, we will be inviting adults into the main arena to have a go at steering a big steam engine as many have expressed an interest in this.

There is a licensed bar on the rally site (not the camping field) and all Day & Evening catering facilities.

Where the Show is Held

The show is held in the grounds of Elvaston Castle Country Park, just south-east of Derby, and comprises a castle along with over 200 acres of woodlands, parkland and formal gardens and is worth a visit just for that! As well as visiting the rally, you can enjoy wonderful walks around the grounds.

If you park in the main Castle car park you will be charged. Please don't enter before 1pm even if the gates are open as we have young cadets working in the field before noon. You can then get set up, have a cuppa at your leisure then take the completed form back to the stewards who will exchange it for your envelope containing your camping passes and wristbands which you need to wear all weekend to gain entrance to the showground. Each person has one wristband which is for both days and Saturday night's entertainment on the showground. Please don't lose it or take it off during the event as it costs £16 per person to replace it!

Please check all your tickets are as ordered before leaving the booking in area

Please keep to the speed limits shown, there will be kiddies, elderly and disabled people around. Repeat offenders will be removed for the safety of everyone.

Due to the dreaded elfnsafety there are to be no mini-motorbikes, motorised mini kiddie scooters and similar things and no bouncy castles so please leave them at home.

Thank you, Geoff, hope you and yours are keeping well.

Reason I am so late coming to the thread is that there has been a change behind the scenes and have only recently started to get the forms.

Higher authority is sending the initial confirmations but am unsure what is being sent out hence people getting two; the usual detailed one is from me as, hopefully, it's helpful to the newbies.

Hi all.
Bad news is, I won't be camping at this event, despite it being almost on my doorstep. Reason being, I have to work that weekend, to make ends meet, keep food on our table, and hopefully save up enough pennies to maybe take our poor little tent away for a weekend later in the summer!

... The good news however, is that my work will involve fetching, carrying, and general dogsbodying for Muckerette, who will be trading from behind her very own craft stall at this event (Sat & Sun) selling her exquisite 100% handmade goodies (Well, sewing machine, mainly!), somewhere within the "Craft Marquee"!

Assuming I'm not allowed to advertise on here, so just look out for cute fabrics, lots of little birds (Other animal and non-animal designs are available!), Practical and pretty gifts...and a very, very handsome (albeit a tad hungry-looking) couple, grafting to earn a crust! That'll be us, so do please come and say hello!

I promise I won't be twisting anyone's arms to spend your money... much!

FINALLY been given the application forms but am upsetting people by requesting a cash £5 supplement on arrival. WHY? At the top of the form it does say UKCS Username [Essential, only 1 username per booking.] If this is you then be assured it's nothing personal but the £5 extra discount is for members only and with no username I assume you're not a member.

UKCS members are given an extra advanced booking discount in recognition of the support this site gives our event which is run purely to raise money for local charities.

I hope to update our list of members attending by the end of the week and thank you to all who have booked with us.

Hello, Friends

Have had a few members who didn't include an email so I can't send the usual arrival information which those new to our event will hopefully find useful.

Here it is for those who may need it.

Thank you for booking the weekend caravan/camping package for the Elvaston Steam Rally.

Follow the brown signs to Elvaston Castle. Gates will be open after 1pm on Friday 1st July; paperwork can be collected up to 8pm. Gates close at 9pm.        Saturday arrivals are between 7am and 2pm when gates are closed to new arrivals. Please follow the signs for weekend caravans or weekend camping. Don't use any showground entrances, farm tracks or private drives as there won't be space to turn round! Some Sat Navs        will not get you to the rally site so please use common sense! The camping fields are off the B5010 directly opposite the main Elvaston Castle entrance.

On arrival you will be given a registration form to fill in so please bring a pen! You will then be directed to your pitch; should you need a disabled pitch, wish to save space for friends or have a generator please make the gate steward aware of this. There will be time to set up your unit and settle in. Once that's done you need to take your registration form to the booking stewards who will exchange it for your envelope containing your wristbands, car and camping pass. On the Friday afternoon/evening you are most welcome to join us on the showground where there will be some trade stands open along with catering and the licensed marquee with entertainment. Please note, no alcohol may be taken across to the showground.

If applicable your cheque will not be cashed until the week beginning 23rd June.

We look forward to seeing you.

Kind Regards

Just to let you all know that, unfortunately, we have been unable to source a mobile shop for this year's event.

If you turn right out of your field and head up the lane to the very top you will see a Co-Op directly opposite and it has a car park. It is easily walkable for fit individuals.

There is also a huge Asda a drive away, address for your satnav is

Hello, Friends,

am not going to be around much online now until I'll see you Friday afternoon at the rally.

I have contacted the following people but they have failed to respond and so will have a £5 supplement to pay before collecting their passes due to me not having any details of their UK membership as requested. We try to make it clear that the £5 advance booking discount is for UKCS members only and not the general public.

Tomorrow all the paperwork will be handed over to Tracy, your boss lady, AKA chief steward.

I've had a flurry of last minute enquiries regarding family and friends who didn't book in advance but now wish to join the fun.

It is fine to turn up on the gate and pay, space will be available. You can save spaces for those arriving later but you must let the pitching stewards know you wish to do so in order for extra room to be allocated.

Please park sensibly as requested. Remember we cannot allow windbreaks between pitches. This is for safety reasons, all gaps MUST be left clear should there be an emergency.

Several years ago a trailer tent caught fire at our event, fortunately no one was badly hurt but when the fire service and ambulance arrived it certainly brought home the reason for the spacing rules. We are NOT Glastonbury!! Anyone know how they get away with tents all within touching distance of one another? It makes me shudder to think of what could happen there.

Hello, Friends,

Can I just remind those of you who haven't yet booked but with to join us that the payment is £60 cash only on the gate.

We realise that, for some, this is a real inconvenience but the area has very poor mobile coverage and would render card payments extremely tricky.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Hello, Friends,

Signing off for another year, won't have email access either.

Travel safely to our event, no farm tracks or private roads to be explored as you near the site!! Our gate is directly opposite the huge main Elvaston Castle entrance and marked weekend camping.

Please try to arrive after 1pm as we will have scouts on the field setting up the runway during the morning.

We look forward to seeing you all, have a good one and, as ever, thank you for your support.

Sorry mate,
Only just seen this!

Hope you've had a great day today.

Try and pop over to the craft tent tomorrow, and come and say hello. Alternative is to give me some clues, and I'll try and come and find you! I take it you are over the other side of the main parade square?

Thank you for the lovely messages, they are greatly appreciated.

Following on from the TV story yesterday Dave went on site to help with the clear up. Someone had left a full caravan awning with one bent pole....this was eagerly snaffled by a couple of helpers, one wanted the poles for a project and another the canvas to cover things up in his yard. There were several broken chairs and 2 of the picnic tables with benches that fold into a case. They found a car battery and a tyre and were shocked that people didn't take home bags of glass bottles, plastic and cardboard. How easy is it to drop this stuff into your recycling bin?

That's it now for another year.

Pam
